“An holiday we will never forget”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Raha Lodge is the right place for an unforgettable holiday. The villa is set on a white sandy beach just in front of the ocean.
The part of the villa we enjoyed more was definetely the veranda: on the top of the house we used to have breakfast there every morning or we just sat there relaxing and admiring the sea in front of us. The house is very spacious and the rooms are african style and very well equipped .The service there is also excellent: Kim, Belinda and Zena make you feel at home... they are there at your complete disposal to satisfy all your needs... and they cook fantastic!!!!
Just behind the house the village of jambiani is a real African village so you will have the chance to meet the local people and they are so nice and helpful!!
We will return there for sure..... and we hope very soon!!!!

Room Tip: 2 rooms are sea front, ask for them... if you want to wake up looking at the ocean!!!

We had a lovely time at Raha Lodge. The staff were wonderfully helpful, they were always to hand and looked after us beautifully. Mr Kim , the manager organised trips for us which all went according to plan. The view of the sea was stunning.
It was very hot (for those coming from an English winter) but there was a good breeze.

The place is beautiful, the house is clean and confortable.
The staff is really helpful and you feel cuddled all the time, this is a place in which you can turn off your brain and just think about relax. The food is really good and you have a wide selection between different style and food.
The only thing that this place don't have is a pool for refreshing, but during my holiday I saw the workman that was taking some measures for build it.
During my holiday I had the chance to met the owners of the house and it was a pleasure because they are really nice, willing, funny and positively extravagant.
I will recommend this place to everybody, the thing I miss more is the magnificent breakfast on the terrace. If I have to be really sincere I have to tell that I already booked another holiday here....

Incredible beach front position, with great views. Fantastic area on the eastern side of the island with beautiful beach and clear warm water. Great service from the staff with a wide variety of local dishes on offer daily. Clean neat and tidy with an authentic african feel. Truly comfortable and peacefull.

I've been to Zanzibar one month in November 2012. I stayed at the Raha Lodge.. what I would say is the place is Gorgeous.Loved the location, the rooms, everything was perfect. If you're looking for somewhere chilled, clean and relaxed this is the place for you. Staff were uber helpful and happy. Outstanding service. I strongly reccomend to everyone Raha Lodge.

We rented out Raha Lodge for 4 nights in April, and I really wouldn't recommend this place.

Positives -- the house is beautiful, new, and has a lot of potential. It is set in a small village, right on the beach. The rooms are well equipped and the bathrooms nice. Adam, the cook, cooked up some incredible Zanzibari dishes (lots of coconut, seafood, yum).

Negatives -- there were THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of flies in the house and outside area, and enough mosquitoes to match. It was so bothersome...although it might be seasonal. The mosquito nets were torn, and we didn't sleep well the entire trip. The house staff seemed lazy, and when they weren't cooking/cleaning they would sit around on the bar stools, while the house could have used a lot more tidying/cleaning. The flies were all over the open plan kitchen, and I felt like the food was being contaminated by the flied...the cook wasn't bothered, and overall I felt like the kitchen was quite dirty.

While the beach had nice sand, there was lots of trash washed up onto the shore, and I felt like the staff did nothing to really take care of the beach. We spent half an hour each morning picking up plastic bottles and bags from the beach, before we could enjoy it. Like most Zanzibar beaches, there is a ton of seaweed washed up on the shore, and you need to walk out many meters before you can enjoy the ocean.

To sum up -- this place has potential, but the folks that run this place haven't paid any attention into the small things that really matter.

Dear guests,

we read your feedback and we are reallysorrythat your stay at Raha lodge was not satisfactory for you and your friends. To be honest this is the first time that we receive a negative feedback from our guests and this will help us to improve our service.I just wanted to point out that, unfortunately, you have chosen a period that marks the beginningof the rainy season and the density of flies and mosquitoes increases dramatically.

Regarding the beach our staff clean upthe seeweeds and the rubbish daily but unfortunately sometimes the level of cleaning really depends on the tides and on the people attending the beach ...
I'm verysurprisedthat you say that our staff was lazy, and the cleaning was lacking, it is really the firsttime that happens.

Anyway we will point it out to our managerKim,which is in charge of the house and of the staff and also runs the restaurant where you have been eating, (the same restaurant which you evaluate with top marks in your comments!)

with best regards
Raha Lodge

The villa is located directly on a white sandy beach and very close to the African village of Jambiani. Rooms are very spacious, with private bathroms.. common spaces are really large..all brand new and modern equipped.. everything is perfectly clean and the cooking is FANTASTIC!!! The personnel (Kim, Belinda,Adam and Abdul) really made our holiday unforgettable. You can enjoy a very relaxing holiday, just laying lazily on th beach or in the garden, orr you can visit the island, going snorkelling or scuba diving... everything is there!! The view on the indian ocean from the upper veranda is breathtaking.... Yes, we will certainly go there again, and Raha lodge is definetly the rght place to go!!!
