I'll admit to not being a wine buff in any way so to find myself in a restaurant in a Vineyard which does not sell beer was maybe not the best start to the evening. However I can honestly say that since arriving in Canada in November last year this was my best restaurant experience to date. The experience starts with the drive to the restaurant along a quiet road through the vineyards. Parking is easy and as you enter Terranfina through the heavy hardwood door the whole place exudes quality. A modern but beautifully designed building with tastefully exposed brickwork and vast hardwood structural supports to the vaulted ceiling. One wall is almost all glass doors opening onto a vine shrouded patio with a magnificent view of the Oliver Osoyoos Valley.
We were greeted by smiling staff, which I have come to expect in British Columbia and led to a delightful table the furthest from the patio but still with a great view. On discovering the lack of beer I was persuaded to try a local wine, although not one from this vineyard which only goes to show the confidence the owners have in their own wines which is renowned and I understand quite excellent. The following meal was absolutely in keeping with the whole experience. I had the home made Focaccia and spreads (a superb dried tomato tapenade, excellent artichoke and garlic aioli and a very nice mushroom bruschetta). Where possible all the ingredients I understand are personally selected from local farmers by the Chef and it shows. The main course was Crispy Duck leg on an Pasta Carbonara base, interesting I thought and it was. The duck was well cooked, not fatty and very tasty, could have been a bit crispier but I'm trying to find fault with a superb meal. The presentation was excellent and the serving staff all professional, very knowledgeable, genuinely interested and helpful. All in all an exceptionally pleasant evening in a highly recommended restaurant.
