“Reception from Hell”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2009

When you enter the lobby of the guesthouse, a sign on the counter asks you to ring the bell. Well, we did... A woman flew out of the office and said, "Who rang the bell? Can't you see that I was on the telephone!" The unbelievably curt and rude treatment continued. It ruined our stay. We will never return. When informed of the incident, the manager/owner seemed indifferent. I suspect his attitude is "take it or leave it."
I have never, ever, in my travels around the world experienced anything like this.. This place is not cheap, lacks class, and is definitely over-priced considering the treatment.

We were very happy with our two-day stay in this beautiful hotel. Our room was amazing, especially the bathroom! We had a private balcony, and from there direct access to the 25-metre swimming pool.
The staff couldn't have been friendlier. In short, we were pretty well blown away.

We stayed at the Burrowing Owl winery for two nights in August this year. The room itself was seriously beautiful overlooking the pool and the vineyards. The room was pretty spacious and had a gorgeous stone floor and comfy bed with great pillows. The bathroom was nice too, great stone walls and floor with a deep tub and complimentary bath salts (nice touch). We had a little patio and we had fun each evening admiring the vineyards against the sunset, sitting outside and trying one of the local wines we'd bought that day. One warning: the food in the restauarant is delicious. They have a balcony but the weather was working against us both nights so we sat inside - we had some great dinners and desserts here. Burrowing Owl also includes a light breakfast every morning which is really good. We had great coffee, pastries, juicy peaches, cherries and even sausages and little omelette type tarts every morning. The winery attached has some great wine too and only 2 mins from your room; we liked the pinot noir and have discovered since coming home that it's much cheaper to but it there than try and get it anywhere else. Pool is beautiful but was a little chilly the days we were there (we didn't care). Has a great tile mosaic on the bottom of an owl and is 10 ft deep at the deepest end which was great. If you can get a reservation, do as early as possible; we had a lot of trouble getting a reservation for two consecutive nights because we booked at the last minute. Also, take a walk through the vineyards and taste the grapes, great views and photo opportunities plus; you get to walk off that breakfast! Reccomend for couples romantic getaway.

  • Liked — Great rooms, great view, amazing restaurant, winery on site
  • Disliked — Chilly pool temperature and 11am checkout; too early for us ! :)

As this was my first wine tasting tour I wanted a place w/good food, great rooms, comfort, and sun, and I found it--just 4.5 hours east of Vancouver at the Northernmost point of the Sonora desert.
Yes, Sage does grow in Canada.
Got it all, wine to take back w/ luggage, FRESH FRUIT, and wow what a great place to spend 4 nights.
Be warned, have a botle of water next to you so in the morning you can talk as it truly is the dessert and it's dry.
And do not eat anywhere else but the Sonora Room at the Inn. You know I am concerned that in another decade traffic jams start and this one lone winery will be the begining of the end of the Okenagan as is
