“Will definitely be returning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

What a lovely place. After reading all of the excellent reviews we expected it to be nice but it exceeded our expectations. Graham and Bre were very welcoming and we felt at home straight away. We stayed in one of the safari lodges which was very clean and huge. It was lovely being able to relax in a roll top bath in a huge candle lit bathroom - it didn't feel like a tent at all! The lodges are down a little path from the main house, it was a lovely peaceful setting and absolutely perfect for a romantic weekend away. The food and wine at dinner were delicious and breakfast was superb.
I will be recommending to all of the couples i know! Thank you for an idyllic weekend away. We will be returning!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2011

We had a brilliant time at Pentre Mawr. We stayed in a safari lodge and the lodge and the hospitality were amazing. The lodge was comfortable, and the setting was gorgeous. We had a great time playing with the hotel dogs and meeting the cats and horses too. Food was exceptionally good too.

In general the attention to detail was fabulous, and the sunglasses provided with breakfast (for those who might be a bit light sensitive with a hangover) were a brilliant idea. The welcome was great, and special mention for the Irish lady who had such a sense of humour! I wish I knew her name for a special mention.

The only reasons for 4 rather than 5 stars were that the light in our bathroom was broken and never fixed, which made the bathroom very dark, and there were not enough mirrors in the lodge, so no full length mirror, and nowhere to sit and do hair or make up. Sorry to be picky, but if these were all good, it would be 5 stars all the way!

Hi,
Thanks for your review which was really helpful............for 2 reasons. I had totally forgotten the three free standing mirrors I bought for the new lodges which were still in our store until today..............I bought them in March and we finished the new lodges last month.......so sorry, sorry, sorry!!!. As far as the light in the bathroom is concern, I've taken a large stick to my husband who was charged with replacing with the bulb that I pick up that morning..................He's very contrite now ( and black and blue) and begs your apologies, but on a sad note each of the safari lodges has an electric makeup mirror in the wardrobe and of course a hair dryer...........unfortunately a previous guest who must have needed the mirror much more than we did and has mistakenly put it in their luggage. We do hope they'll send it back but as we’re not sure they will we have bought another one today. It's very rare we lose anything.....it makes us sad but I suppose that's life.
So huge apologies again,
Bre, and Graham

we stayed in one of the safari lodges which are lovely.great big bed with heated blanket.lovely big bathroom with underfloor heating.shampoo, soap and torches suppied but no hairdryer.
big fridge so you can take your own drinks and snacks.
hot tub is fab! but could do with a tempory cover over it when its rains so it can still be used if it rains.
the house itself is fantastic, the best food ive tasted in a long time and the staff are very friendly,so are the dogs.hoping to go back in a few years to see the new tents and the tea rooms.we were very glad it was adults only!!!!!!

The beautiful setting, friendliness and attention to detail is outstanding. The breakfast was amazing, so much to choose and fresh. I would have liked to have stayed longer and to have the opportunity to stay for dinner.

Highly recommended and hope to stay there again shortly

Bre, Graham and Linda are all great and mae us feel so welcome. On arrival we were greeted with a glass of bucks fizz and a beautifully laid out tray of coffee and homemade cake. We were then taken by golf cart o our safari lodge, no dragging heavy suitcases!!
Linda then gave us a guided tour of our lodge which was amazing, when i think of luxury i definatley think of Pentre Mawr!!!
We then spent the afternoon lounging around sipping champagne in our hot tub!!
Our evening meal was served in the main house at 7, the food was amazing!!! The wine even better. Coffee and a cheese board followed in the very elegant drawing room. One of the best nights i have ever had, excellant food, great wine and 5 star hospitality!!
We were so sad when we had to leave, and will be back again!
Thankyou for a wonderful anniversary :-)

Room Tip: Wonderful for couples wanting a romantic weekend.

An amazing experience from the moment you arrive!!
Met by a golf buggy as soon as you drive up for champaigne reception!
The owners are wonderful and nothing is to much trouble, even giving us a lift to the start of a fantastic walk!
The safari lodges have to be seen to be believed, they have to be the most amazing accommodation i have ever stayed in!! every detail accounted for. The hottub on the private terrace is fantastic!
If you are thinking about going, think no longer and book....you wont be disapointed!!
Many thanks for a wonderful stay!!

Set in an area of designated natural beauty in the foothills of the Clwydian hills Pentre Mawr Country House has a lovely romantic feel to it...set as it is in nearly 200 acres of meadows, park and woodland. There are all the little extras that you would expect in a fine country house at Pentre but it is run on a much softer line. Meals are served either in the Oak room or the formal dining room but with none of the stuffiness. We are delighted to announce that we have received 5 Stars and a dining award from the AA There are two lovely sitting rooms all with comfy sofas and portraits of Graham's ancestors. The hidden walled garden is a lovely place to sit and read or just relax and smell the roses. We are more than happy to welcome guest dogs as we have two collies and two cats of our own here. ... more   less
