“Good Food, hosts and accomodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2007

There were not many reviews of this hotel but the pictures on their website looked good, so wanting a weekend away we decided to risk it. Set off late and the Sat Nav said we wouldn't be there until 9 p.m. so we phoned to tell them and check if we could still eat. Unfortunately we were the only guests staying there that evening and so it was not they did however offer to make us a sandwich for when we arrived. We declined, having since tasted their food I wish we had said yes. Arrived about 9:30 pm after stopping on the way for some pub grub and was greeted at the door by, Martin. As we were the only guests we were offered a free upgrade to the SIenna Miller Suite, very nice. The suite was large containing a lounge area, bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Standards of decor were very good. The bed was soft and extremely comfortable and a good nights sleep was had by all.
Breakfast the following morning was excellent, fresh fruit and cereal, followed by a cooked English. The quality of the food was excellent much of it being fresh, local produce. The bacon and sausage being from their own pigs apparently. The food at dinner was also excellent with a large choice especially given the small numbers dining. Prices were about £30 per person for 2 courses but the quality was superb.
All in all an excellent choice good food, lovely surroundings, very welcoming and friendly hosts. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I found the Ty Mawr Mansion through a glowing review in the Guardian and booked 2 nights there because of the review. We were not disappointed - in fact it is now our favourite place to stay in the UK.

Ty Mawr is a beautiful house set in nice grounds in the beautiful welsh countryside. The interior is just as nice - beautifully decorated and nice and airy. Our room was great - big with great views across the grounds and countryside. The best bit was our bathroom which had a rain shower and a separate bath (on feet) from which you could look out onto trees and hills.

As other people have said the food is fantastic. Really great and I had one of the best puddings I have ever tasted (in my top 2 of all time). Breakfast was also great - especially the bacon and sausage from their own pigs. If I was forced to say anything bad I would say the juice could be better but that was not a big deal.

On a final note I must say how friendly and welcoming the owners Martin and Catherine are. We could not have felt more welcome. We even got a full tour of the whole hotel and grounds. I felt so at home I occasionally forgot that I was at a hotel (oops).

We can't wait to go back!

I stumbled across the hotel from a listing on late rooms and then came to Trip Advisor to read the reviews - only to find that there weren't any (so I'm trying to remedy that now that I'm back home).

The owners, Martin and Alison, were very welcoming and attentive. I particularly appreciated Martin coming to the car to meet us and carry our bags to the room.

The room was a large size and the bathroom was great with whirlpool bath and huge shower head - but surprisingly a tiny corner sink.

Dinner was excellent - an interesting menu, an informal atmosphere, food cooked to perfection.

However, for the price I would expect a few extras: there weren't any bathrobes or slippers in the bedroom; no olives or nuts were served with the pre-dinner drinks; the cooked breakfast was fantastic but the juices were cheap and there wasn't any yoghurt; and a 10.30 checkout does seem particularly early.

If you do stay I'd recommend a trip to New Quay - a beautiful seaside location a short drive from the hotel. You can go on a dolphin-spotting boat trip, go for a walk on the beach, or paddle in the sea.

We have just returned from 3 fantastic nights at Ty Mawr Mansion and wanted to let people know what a great place it is!!

We were greeted by the owner and show to our room, all I can say is WOW! The room had a fantastic bed, Widescreen TV, Sky, DVD, Internet in a great seating area with 2 sofas and a fantastic bathroom with great jacuzzi bath and rain shower!!

We would have been happy not to leave our room for 3 days but the surrounding area has loads of great places to visit, although we did come back for an afternoon nap each day cos it seemed a waste to only use the room at night!

Onto the food...

The food and atmosphere here is as good or better than any restaurants we have been to including top restaurants in USA and Michelin Restaurants in UK. Each course is full of flavour and perfectly presented by friendly and attentive staff, including the owners.
Breakfast is fantastic, using local ingredients including their own pigs!!

I could go on and on but would rather you went and saw for yourself. If you need a relaxing break then this is the place for you!!

Arrived in a terrible storm on July 20 to receive a very warm welcome from Martin. We had a superb suite. Home made biscuits were provided . Bedroom was huge with large screen TV and luxurious bathroom. We stayed 2 nights and ate in on both occasions. Cooking superb from a varied and imaginative menu. Wide choice of reasonably priced wines.Excellent breakfasts using local ingredients and the best toast we have ever eaten.Service was attentive throughout. Impossible to find fault in any way. We would certainly go back.
