“Nice stopover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

This is a very nice hotel with a great host who offered us tea and cake as soon as we arrived.
Room was average size but seemed small in comparisonn to those we had stayed in earlier in the holiday.

The room had shower only but it worked well with good temperature control and pressure but the bathroom had little space to put cosmetics, clothes etc

The bed has a medium mattress which was too soft for me and I woke with backache but I suppose you cannot cater for everyones individual needs

We ate in the restaurant at night and had a great meal and breakfast too was very good.

I agree with a previous reviewer that sound insulation was poor and you coukd hear every movement in adjoining rooms and corridors. Also found the room very hot though the windows could be opened to compensate for this

Very good value for money

We recently stayed in the Old Pines Hotel. The room was spotless, the food was lovely and the view amazing ! Great attention to detail and a high standard of service. We had a super night's sleep in a comfy bed helped by the peaceful silence and the darkness ! It was lovely to waken up in the morning to such tranquil surroundings followed by a delicious breakfast. Some nice homely touches such as the DVDs and books and the lovely local pottery mugs . We would not hesitant to return or recommend to others.

We were greeted with a complimentary afternoon tea on arrival, which was well received after the drive up from Glasgow. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and have everything you need for a short break. The only slight disappointment being that the double was actually two singles put together. There is also a nice lounge area with well stocked book and DVD libraries. Food was excellent, both at dinner and at breakfast. Ken, the owner of the hotel, is a genuinely lovely person and went out of his way to make sure our stay was comforable. Check out the very good walk just outside the hotel, a 1.5hr circuit to the old High Bridge.

Absolutely gorgeous setting, they were very accommodating moving other bookings around to give us a very nice family room and quite simply the best food we've had in Scotland. Simply, being the operative word: it was simple like home cooking but excellent with it.

The only fly in the ointment, so to speak, is the flimsy acoustic insulation. We heard our next door neighbours coming home and going to bed. Luckily they weren't too noisy and didn't talk too long but there is zero sound insulation and it was like they were in the room with us. If you have less careful neighbours than we had you might suffer.

Nevertheless we would rush to go back, and indeed already tried to get a booking for next but sadly they're full.

We arrived by train & Ken was on the platform to meet us & whisk us away for coffee & fruit cake at his charming hotel. Our room was modern & its wet room excellent. The evening was sunny so we could enjoy the wonderful views of the mountains across the fields. Dinner was wonderful, as was our unhurried breakfast the next morning. This is a really friendly well run small hotel in a delightful rural setting.

Room Tip: All rooms are on the ground floor.

Spent two nights here on our tour through the Highlands and are glad we did. Ken is a warm and gracious host, and his wife, Imogene is a wonderful cook! The rooms are very comfortable with nice ensuite facilities. We enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks (especially the 50 year old whisky) in their couch filled sitting areas. Lots of books to read if you've run out and a whole cupboard-full of dvds to choose from and take to your room. Eggs are fresh from their own chickens, who enjoy getting their exercise by the side of the lovely burn that runs right by the large dining room windows. Imogene will pack you a delicious lunch if you are going to be out all day - which we were, and even (for a small price) they will do your laundry - which by that time in our trip we needed badly! All in all, a great place to stay in a lovely area!
