“Not just for the ferry!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

This was my 4th stay at the Rhins of Galloway and I have only 1 complaint - it wasn't long enough! I wasn't entirely joking when I asked John & Paul to cancel another guest's booking so I could stay longer. Having initially chosen it as a convenient base for a daytrip by ferry to Belfast, Rhins of Galloway is now my actual destination for a short break, with plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. The value for money is fantastic, the rooms are immaculate and furnished to a very high standard. As mentioned in other reviews, the flask of fresh milk is a lovely touch, as is the option to have tea or coffee served in the lounge (at no extra charge).

I must also mention the 'snack menu' - a name that really doesn't do it justice! As a lone female traveller I don't always enjoy eating out alone so its good to have the option of an evening meal on the premises. At just £5 I have to recommend the salad (options include ham, tuna mayo, cheese etc), which is a full plate including salad leaves, coleslaw, potato salad, pickles etc, and served with plenty of bread & butter, easily enough to fill me.

Although not licensed, Paul and John are more than happy to provide glasses if you want to take your own alcohol, another small touch that makes a difference.

Because there were no single rooms available when I booked this trip, I was upgraded to a double room, which was huge by most standards. As well as the 'usual' bedroom furniture, it included a little lounge area, with 2 comfy chairs in front of an electric fireplace and a decent-sized flat-screen tv - which I could still see clearly from the bed at the other end of the room.

I'm already looking forward to planning my next stay...

What an amazing hotel. We stayed here for only one night before catching the ferry to Belfast but could happily have stayed for a lot longer. The rooms are all absolutely gorgeous with every possible luxury. The decor throughout the hotel is a delight and the owners have obviously put so much care and attention into every little detail. The dining room is superb, and the breakfast delicious. Very, very impressed, would most certainly return if in the area again and would highly recommend to anyone.

You will not find anything better at twice the price. The welcome - fantastic; we last stayed here in 2004, but Paul and John remembered us. The standard of decoration and furnishing is superb. The "minimal" supper menu superb; because our ferry was early breakfast was not possible but, we were provided with a take-away breakfast that makes Travelodge look fourth rate. Previously when on the way to an early ferry to Ireland we have stayed at Dumfries, Travelodge or Premier Inn; never again.

Thank you Paul and John. - I hope that the weather stays fair for you to finish the painting!

Stayed for one night while tagging along with my husband who was working in the area. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. The room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was of a decent size and the shower was excellent. Loved the fireplace in the room. Bed was so so comfortable! Although it is right on the main road we could hear extremely little traffic noise. Breakfast was superb, we wanted something not on the menu and it was done exactly how we asked and beautifully presented. The little touches - like the guest sitting room where you could be served coffee free of charge in front of the fire, the telescope in the breakfast room, the bird watching books and binoculars - all go to show how much consideration is given to the guests. Have stayed in many hotels and B&Bs all over Scotland and this is the best so far. Thanks guys for a wonderful night's stay!

We stayed 1st January and the owner could not have been more helpfull. The pictures of the rooms on the site do not do it justice. The room was spotless, very comfortable and I would highly recommend it,
