“Very good B&B, great location, service and room.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2010

I stayed here with my daughter to take her to the Heights of Abraham, something I did about 25 years ago, eek. The email confirmation was friendly and offered vouchers to the attraction and asked if we were ok for directions. On arrival I was greeted with wine, olives and posh crisps and my daughter was offered juice. The owner is super nothing is too much trouble, the B&B has contemporary decor, this is a welcome change to the standard B&B's we stay in. We were also greeted in our room by chocolates and a lit scented candle. The room was spacious and clean, as was the bathroom, although it was not on suite, I think possibly the other rooms are. We will def stay here when in the area again. Oh I almost forgot, the breakfast was really tasty, the choice is huge and you are asked how you would like it cooked, my daughter was also given duck and rabbit shaped toast which was delightful! It is also 5 mins at the most from the Heights of Abraham and the local town with a choice of eateries and little shops. Even Gullivers is only about 15 mins walk or a 5 minute drive. Highly recommended.

I would recommend this lovely b+b to anyone, its situated in an amazing location in the bottom of the valley into Matlock Bath,Roger and his wife made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived until we left.
The accomodation and hospitality was five star all the way and we would definatley be staying there again in the future.
If you're visiting Matlock Bath and looking to stay over for the night THE CABLES is a must!!

All we will say, we thought it was our secret B & B but now the word is out. The Cables has come into the twenty-first century with it's new owners Rodger & Maureen and they have gone onto the Web and now eveyone knows our secret. We have been staying at the Cables for over eight years and we were dreading our visit as this was our first visit with NEW OWNERS -

Rodger & Maureen, All the extra touches, breakfast was lovely, great stay.

Don't worry so much us Visitors - you have a great product and excellent Customer Service with lovely touches-, relax. We love it.

One thing that we didn't like in this world of mistrust - We don't like the 'welcome board' on the outside of the building - would have loved it in the inside. Security wise we don't like people knowing who is in the building and who is not in your building.

My husband and I were with the Rotary Club of Leicester DeMontfort on their sponsored walk from Sheffield to Leicestershire along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way.
I have been to many hotels and b and b's all over the country and this beats most of 5 star hotels. The friendliness of the proprietor, attention to detail and needs of the guest is excellent - nothing is too much trouble.

There was even a written welcome for the party on the Chalkboard outside a very nice touch.

I am looking forward to going back.

Although being at the front of the house on the main road meant that our beautiful four poster bedroom might be a bit noisy during the Summer months, all was quiet for us in April with the window closed.Roger, mine hoste, went out of his way to make us so welcome - a glass of wine on arrival in front of a roaring log fire ----a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket in the bedroom, plus scented candles and a birthday card ( a little bird had been forwarned him ! ) ----- such personal touches really made my day !! Breakfast was delicious, and cooked to order from a most comprehensive menu. A truly delightful stay in a very up-market B.and B.

We were just driving past looking for a B & B when we saw the sign and stopped. We were greeted as friends and made to feel very welcome. Luckily for us more (male) guests booked in, so we were upgraded from our comfortable room to a gorgeous four poster room. There were so many extras that we were just not expecting including an honesty mini bar in which everything is 50p each.
The breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious. We also ordered a packed lunch for the next day which was good value for money.
Roger and Maureen made us feel extremely welcome and we will certainly stay there again if in the area.

I was looking for a msall B&B to surprise my wife and 11 year old son with a night away. I picked this B&B based on all the great reviews. We were not disappointed. Our names were on the board outside when we arrived. Coffee and homemade chocolate cake served in the Lounge upon arrival. My son was one over by the prescence of a Wii in the same room (shame he didn't have time to use it). The room was very confortable. We had a seperate private bath room just across the corridor - great shower and large. There was a fridghe in the room stocked full of chocolate etc. This room being on the back of the house, the traffice noise from the A6 was not noticable even with the window open. After a confortable nights sleep, breakfast was a dream. Plenty of choice and well prepared. Our son loved the Belini's. He called them "Greeat". Hi praise indeed from our 11 year old who is not often heard to praise things. Roger was very friendly offering advice on the area. We would certainly visit this B&B again and have no hesitation on recommending it.
