“High marks for Hi tor (hidden gem)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Called for sunday lunch, very nice food at a very reasonable price, the main problem is actually knowing it's there,(very difficult to see on the hillside). Apparently the local council won't let them put any more signs up,which to me is ridiculous ,this is a modern upbeat place with a very friendly staff. To create a proper ambience you need customers, and that is where this place sadly is lacking not through any fault of management ,if the council want there local business people to thrive ,then let them have the signage they need to help them prosper.

“A pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Visited for lunch on a deal. Blink and you miss it as it is up a steep driveway. I went with my parents for a treat and it was very pleasant although the bar area was not what I had expected from the exterior. It is quite modern inside and minimalist.

The food choice wasn't extensive but our food was tasty and hot. The wine list was particularly good if you did not have to drive. Staff were pleasant.

“It was alright !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

We were four of us stayed in this hotel on last Sunday night, me and my wife's room was okay but my friends room was far too small and we did ask to change it but they wouldn't :( anyway we were there to enjoy our night in Matlock, we had a first drink in hotel for the night and went to everywhere else to have some fun. We had a lovely time in Matlock. At night time my room blind won't work and we had to sleep in the window light, that's really was not good at all. Had a lovely full English breakfast in the morning and service was very good, lady had a lovely smile on her face all the time :) although night staff need some teaming, I asked for room breakfast but they were very confuse and I left it.....

“Too busy, can only do instant decaf”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013 via mobile

Visited on a friday evening with 2 friends. Only one member of staff to do bar service everything. Waitress could not explain what some of the starters were on the menu. Not much choice on a very heavy meaty menu so had the salmon. Quite pricey. Fishcake burnt. Potatoes dry. Asked for butter. Not enough sauce with the fish. Best bit was the asparagus. Decided to go elsewhere for coffee
