“It's just you and the nature if you visit the lake from Rijeka”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

We have been here in the summer 2010. If you look at the lake from Virpazar or where the lake is widely open, it's just a lake (nice and fascinating though). But if you go to Rijeka, it's where it becomes an experience for your soul. Myself and girlfriend have an inflatable kayak, a Sevylor Hudson, we put it in the lake at Rijeka, which is a fascinating very small village surronded by mountains. We paddled from Rijeka up to where the lake becomes widely open, it's quite a long way but it's awesome, it's just you and the nature, the lake is more like a river in that area surrounded by green hills, it flows from one to the other like a snake. It was just us and the nature, sometimes a small canoe with a very small engine overcomed us and that's it. There were ducks everywhere, you are just surrounded by the green and the silence. You can stop on the aside of the lake, there are a few spot where you can park the kayak, have a sandwich, swim in the lake and then paddle again. It's been a great experience, really relaxing, a day outside of the world for us. When we came back to Rijeka we ate at the pub on the street and it was quite good, while we were watching the local childrens and dogs jumping from the bridge into the lake, very funny.

“Spectacular place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

I spent 2 weeks traveling around Montenegro. From the northern mountains, to Tara Canyon, Durmitor National Park and the Bay of Kotor. All of these places are beautiful. But my kayak trip on Skadar Lake blew them all away! The country's tourism tagline is "Wild Beauty" and Skadar Lake by kayak is the definitely of Wild Beauty - sublime water channels winding their way through lily pads full of diverse birdlife (if you are into birding, you cannot miss this place), verdant hills, ridges and mountains springing out of the clean, clear water and small, old world stone cottages and local villages peppered along the shore. Matt and Amy from Kayak Montenegro are the only local company offering a day trip on Skadar Lake (in fact they pioneered this route and are working with the National Park to develop marked water trails on the lake). They do an incredible job! I highly recommend them. You don't have to be a regular kayaker, this trip is very do-able even if you never kayaked before. The water is very calm and there is very little current (of course weather can impact this) and Matt and Amy do a great job of showing you the proper paddling technique and are there for support throughout the tour. Bottom line, if you go to Montenegro, you must visit Skadar Lake. And to really see it, go by kayak!

Lake Skadar We moved to montenegro last fall... Lake Skadar, or Skadarsco Yezero, was one of the first places we went to... i think it was magical. Even in fall and winter, it had its own spirit. The serenity and magic was enormous, we felt like we went back in time, and that we were surely going to meet some good old witch on her broom.. we just fell in love with the place...
