My two sons and I spent a night with Gertie and Pat (this is our third visit). My only regret is not being able to spend more time here. On arrival, Gertie served proper tea leaves in a pot with homemade biscuits. As usual we were treated to the 'best'. A fabulous 3 course evening meal followed by a lovely peaceful sleep (rooms are spacious, comfortable beds ...Im fussy.. and pristine bathrooms). Breakfast should really be starved for (3 courses) homemade pannacotta, preserved fruits/ fresh fruits, homemade granolas, the famous porridge with whiskey, cream and brown sugar and then the full Irish. The tariff is not on the high side as one previous customer quoted - as the service and standard is so high. My husband stayed in a 'grotty B&B' above a pub in Dungarvan very recently and paid the same price. I left with scones and homemade chutney which is available to buy. Dont miss this extraordinary country house.

Room Tip: Dogs are also welcome, we took ours

We stayed at Kilcannon House for one night. It is a farmhouse situated some distance from towns. We had a nice spacious pleasant room and enjoyed an excellent breakfast with many home-made preserves. We also had the dinner option - Gertie is a very experienced chef and the food was rich and generous. (Note that you are welcome to bring your own wine.) The tariff we found on the expensive side which has lowered our overall rating; otherwise it was excellent.

Superb experience, went down to dungarvan for the sean kelly cycle. Met with freshly made apple tart and cream. Next morning, most fantastic breakfast ever, homemade pannacotta and whiskey porridge. Fair play on superb service, this is what b+b should be about.

My son and I spent just one lovely night at the marvellous Kilcannon House this weekend. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! Pat and Gertie Ormond are a genuinely warm and welcoming couple, who have created a delightful haven just a few miles outside Dungarvan. We were greeted with an offer of tea and an unexpected, delicious home-made cake - thoughtfully made from gluten-free flour, to accommodate our dietary needs. The cosy farmhouse is in pristine condition; our spacious twin bedroom overlooked an immaculate farmyard, while our perfectly equipped, modern en-suite shower-room looked onto the front garden. The bedroom had obviously been recently and very prettily decorated, complete with window seats and spotlessly clean bed linen. Breakfast, served with fine china and linen napkins, was a feast: homemade panne cotte, freshly squeezed orange juice, porridge, several homemade breads (including a spelt bread), scones and jams, followed by scrambled eggs (from the farmyard hens) and bacon. We left reluctantly, but armed with recipes for bread and cakes! This was a delightful treat - and such a lovely alternative to large, often soulless hotels.

Room Tip: Try to spend two nights!

If you find yourself near Dungarven in the Southeast of Ireland and don't make the Kilcannon House part of your trip, you are sadly missing out on a wonderful piece of Irish charm. Having stayed in Dromoland Castle just a few nights prior to staying at the Kilcannon House, I figured I had already seen it all. I was quite mistaken! The charm of the owners, Pat and Gertie and their beautiful home was by far my favorite part of Ireland. Upon stepping out of our car, we were treated as though we were family and had the opportunity to sit and enjoy a delightful glass of wine in their beautiful garden. By chance we had managed to get Pat to join us for dinner who filled us in on Irish history and politics. If you like a witty dinner partner with intelligence and charm, you've met your match in Pat. The only topper to that would have been to enjoy Gertie's company for the whole meal! The meal was divine, well thought out and lovingly created, Gertie is an exceptional cook. This tourist went to bed with a full belly and very happy memories. The only drawback was time...there wasn't enough! I will be back and will plan for several days. If you want to experience the "real" Ireland, you don't need to look further and you could not find better hosts.

Our two night stay at Kilcannon House was the best. Gerty and Pat are genuinely hospitable folks, making us feel welcome and at home in their Irish Country House. The food was the most excellent we have ever had at a B&B. Gerty is a superb cook making most everything from scratch, including gluten-free, as you can imagine this is not easy to find at a B&B. We absolutely recommend Kilcannon House to travelers in Waterford County.

Room Tip: Dont drive past this B&B

From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Gertie was making her fabulous brown bread as we entered her lovely warm kitchen. She showed us to our room as Pat put the kettle on for our tea. The room was delightful. Clean, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. Before dinner we were given a fantastic cocktail made from elderberry juice and white wine. We sat in their lovely garden and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Our hosts joined us and Pat thrilled us with a history of the area. If anyone can tell a story he can. We decided to have dinner there as my sister had stayed there a couple of months before and she told me that Gertie's food was out of this world. The three course meal was absolutely delicious. Gertie is a pro in the kitchen. From the Zucchini Roulade to the Chicken Pascal and finishing with her Rhubarb Tart, our tastebuds were not disappointed. I woke up the next morning refreshed after a lovely nights sleep. What can I say about breakfast....well I'll never forget the oatmeal, brown sugar, whiskey and freshly whipped cream. I can still taste it. I bought a bottle of Powers whiskey in the airport as I knew I would have to duplicate it when I got home. All in all, we had a wonderful time at Kilcannon House Bed & Breakfast and when I return in two years time with my family I will definately stay with Pat and Gertie again.
