“Ballinamore, County Leitrim”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

Staying at Hamill's was a wonderful experience. When cousins of one of our party came to visit, tea and cookies were sent into the parlor for us. Bernadette gave a lesson in making brown and even sent us home with one. The host went beyond expectations. I would highly recommend this B & B if you are ever in ballinamore.

Excellent decor, comfortable bed, quiet nights sleep, powerful shower, welcoming professional host, hearty tasty breakfast and birds outside the window to watch as I enjoyed. All you'd want. Will return for sure. Excellent all round..

Damien is a wonderful, genuine person. He loves what he is doing and it shows. He is what makes this B&B excellent. His knowledge of the area and the people is encyclopedic. Ballinamore and, indeed, County Leitrim are a bit off the beaten track but worth the time and effort to explore. My ancestors came from a few miles north of Ballinamore on the County Cavan line and it was a thrill to visit the family homestead. We came back from the boggy tramp and Damien washed our dirty clothes with a smile and a happy share of the story! We will be back.

Our stay at Hamill's was a wonderful introduction to Co. Leitrim. Damien was wonderful to talk with and fed us royally. Bernadette's Brown Bread is out of this world. If we're lucky enough to return to that beautiful part of Ireland, we will definitely stay at Hamill's B&B.

Thank you for your review of Hamill's. We are glad you enjoyed the welcome and the brown bread. if you visit the blog on Hamill's website, you will find the brown bread recipe - that way you can recreate the Hamill's feeling for yourself any time.
Kind regards and best wishes,

Could not have asked for a better experience. My room was excellent and Damien cooked a great full or any part of you requested. Looked forward to breakfast and the charming setting every morning. Main street was a short walk to the pubs, dinner and the Genealogy Center.

Spent 8 days in Ballinamore while attending the Leitrim Roots Festival. It was so much fun.

The Leitrim Roots festival was a wonderful event and those guests who took part had a brilliant experience. At Hamill's we were so glad to have had some participants staying here. It gave us an opportunity to be part of the welcome to Leitrim for people who have an interest in Leitrim Genealogy - whatever their connection. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with other Trip Advisor members. We hope you will return to Leitrim, to Ballinamore and to Hamill's at some time in the future.
Kind regards,
Damien and Bernadette Hamill

As my title says, this B&B is simply the sort of business that all others should strive to match. Calling Hamills a B&B is like calling a Bentley just a car! I have been in hotels that should take a look at Hamills and aspire to match the cleanliness, room quality, service, value for money and all-round feel good factor.

I found Hamills a while ago because I have family in Ballinamore and wanted somewhere to stay close to my family. Ballinamore offers very few hotels/B&B in the town. I have stayed several times in several of their rooms and have found consistency every time. I wouldn’t waste my time looking at any other places to stay in Ballinamore.

Every time I have stayed I have felt very welcome from the minute Damien and/or Bernadette greeted me, right through to the wave off. It is nice to be welcome but not harassed during the stay; they get the balance so right. They both remember repeat customers. Nothing is too much trouble, from asking for local knowledge, to storing your suitcase beyond check-out. Simple things one expects of an establishment are simple here and are done without effort.

WiFi is important for me while travelling and I have never been disappointed once I have found the right WiFi to connect to (three hotspots appear but only one seems to give internet). Its not hard to try until you find the right one!

The rooms are truly as the photos show; there appears to have been no air-brushing or touching up on these photos. The cleanliness has attention to detail and what I demand of a room. The bedding is always fresh, new appearing and high quality – there is no Tesco Value brand bedding here!

The Irish cooked breakfasts are not greasy, have all the required elements and are not off putting by being so large or heavy. Conversation at breakfast is unobtrusive and just right.

The owners are in the right business, professional at what they are doing and provide a 5 star service for a brilliant price.

But well worth finding! The entrance to Hamill's is a narrow drive between two storefronts on Main Street but, once onto the drive, the b&b ahead is a lovely building. My mother and I stayed here for two nights in September 2013. Our room was clean and comfortable, with free wifi available. Breakfasts were delicious and well presented. Damien and Bernadette are excellent hosts, and made us feel welcome immediately. The location is perfect, with shops and restaurants only a short distance away along the main street. Fellow guests mentioned Smyth's as a good place for dinner, and it was advice we were glad to have taken. It's not necessary to drive a great distance from Ballinamore to find things to see -- we were delighted to find and explore Fore Abbey not far from Castlepollard. All in all, I'd be happy to stay here again.

We are so glad you and your Mother enjoyed your visit. Yes the house is almost hidden from view, in fact we considered naming it ' Hamill's Hideaway'. It is good to read that you were happy to have found us and would be happy to stay again. We hope to have you back in Ballinamore in the future,
Kind regards,
