“Lovely hotel - don't believe the negative reviews!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We stayed here for four nights and couldn't have asked for more. The location is perfect, bang in the middle of the bustling Peschiera Del Garda, surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops, 1 minute's walk from the lake and boat trips and just 10 minutes to the train station, with trains to Venice, Verona and Milan and buses to other places around Lake Garda.

The hotel is clean, minimalistic and stylish with arty touches. Our room was very quiet, air conditioning efficient, bed soft and comfortable and the bathroom large and stylish.

The continental breakfast was gorgeous - freshly baked croissants and cakes, a selection of cheeses and cold meats, loads of cereals and biscuits to choose from, and a choice of juices, tea and coffee - a million times better than the 'full english' some reviewers expected and were disappointed to not get.

The Italian staff were very friendly and always happy to help. We never had trouble making ourselves understood in English, however they appreciated our efforts to speak Italian and I would suggest everyone else does the same (it is just arrogant to expect hotel staff in another country to speak your own language perfectly).

Realistically I don't think the hotel has enough facilities to call itself 5-star, but as a simple base for exploring Lake Garda and the nearby cities, it is perfect. We didn't try to use the internet so can't comment on that. The room was not absolutely perfect - a couple of the (many) lights didn't work and the bathroom had a few shortcomings - the sink plug didn't work, the tap didn't run very cold, the glass shower door dragged on the floor and the shower was only powerful if you used the handheld attachment. However these things were so insignificant that we didn't bother to complain about them, and they didn't take anything away from our stay.

Room Tip: We chose the Deluxe room, the cheapest kind, but besides a smaller floor space around the bed I reck...

This is a smart small hotel in the alleyways of the old town of Peschiera, ( the photo showing grass and horse isn't anywhere near the hotel!) with beautifully restored fragments of an original painted fresco in the halls and stairs. Standard of cleanliness was excellent and the rooms were very quiet, considering the central location. Having read a couple of the reviews about this place I was worried that I might have made a mistake in booking this, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that the staff were friendly, maybe a bit reserved, but definitely not rude. Breakfast was simple continental with lovely coffee, sitting in a small balcony over the bustling alleyways below.

Having stayed at the hotel for 2 nights middle July 2011, I feel I need to put a good word for the establishment, because the bad comments that I have read are mostly unfair. I dont know your nationality but you sound British or American to be making such comments. I mean the issue with the breakfast. Havent you heard of Continental breakfast? Who said that for breakfast to be considered "good" it has to include hot bacon and baked beans? I am sorry but breakfast in Italy is a completely different thing. Its cheeses and croissants, ham and coffee. Sorry, no black tea in Italy. And no rude staff at breakfast...

Also, the thing about the staff. This is a small hotel "boutique" style, and it does not have a lot of staff. Having said that, we were very happy with the reception at all times, the guy that helps with breakfast/parking/luggage was very decent and helpful. And what do you mean there was no one who spoke English? This must be one of the most arrogant comments I have ever heard. Why should Italian staff necessarily speak English? Does any hotel staff in the UK/USA speak Italian? Should we be posting bad comments about Italian hotels for not speaking English?

Parking is extra, yes but thats advertised. 20 euros per 24 hours (private garage 200 metres away). Or else you can park at the public parking space at 1.50 euros per hour.

The only thing I agree is the internet. They are still using the old "get a ticket from the reception" method. This method was/is used when internet is charged so customers may choose a 1 hour or 2 hour username/password. The thing is that, since internet is free, there is no reason to ask for tickets every time. (Management please note)

And about the view. This is a hotel situated bang in the middle of Peschiera (paved area, no access to cars). The hotel is not on the lake shore. So the view is restricted. But again, I dont remember the hotel as advertising lake view.

Once you go exit the hotel you are right in the midlle of the village with lots of people walking around, lots of shops and bars(cafes).

Peschiera is very beautiful, 20 minutes from Verona, 1.5 hours from Milano or Bologna by car, and it is one of the 15 or so villages surrounding the amazing Lago di Garda, or should I refer to it as "Lake Garda" for the non Italian speakers...

And by the way, I am not Italian...

Room Tip: We got 2 rooms, and both were very nice, quite big too...

1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2011

We booked seven nights (July 2-9, 2011) a few weeks in advance via Lastminute.com. Based on reviews then, we weren't entirely convinced but there was little available at that stage. Just before we went, we noticed the reviews got even worse so our expectation was very low as we jetted off. Howver we pledged to remain open minded! The hotel has no idea about customer service and its claims to quality are unbelievably wide of the mark. We got a pokey room on the 3rd floor with a sky light and a small window looking at the roofs across the narrow back street. It was full of electronic gadgets and switches but on 2 different days, the hotel had electrical failures - so, no aircon, no lift, no lights in corridors or staircases, no tv and some other bedoom light switches and plugs not working. There was even no cold water one evening. One day, our room was not even cleaned. My wife asked could she borrow an iron? - no, it was simply not possible to provide an iron - she would have to go somewhere else in the town. Breakfast was poor. Of the 7 days there, we only saw other people at breakfast on 2 occasions - don't know how many people were staying in the hotel but it cannot have been many. When leaving, there was lots of staff hanging around but no-one offered help with the luggage - down 3 flights of an unlit staircase. It really is a shame as the hotel is right in the middle of the town and it could be very good with the right staff and management in place. To sum up, we were very happy for our taxi to arrive early to take us back to the airport. Enjoy Peschiera but DO NOT stay at this hotel.

I am in my late fifties and suppose that I have stayed in over a hundred hotels around the world. Ai Capitani was, by far, the worst property I have ever visited. It is not that the hotel is dirty, unsafe or even noisy. It isn't. Instead, our disappointments included: desk clerks who are on cell phones while we attempt to check in and who, in all events, speak not a word of English; a two star property advertised as a five star property; no English speaking employees; a drunk for a porter (and he drove our car); hidden fees for parking ($59.00 a night); advertised wifi but wait! you can only use WIFI for two hours a day, you pay for it and it only works on the fourth floor (I am not making this up). The location was nowhere near the promised and advertised beaches and the town itself is so small as to be visited in about 40 minutes. If we had no car, we would have killed ourselves. Fortunately, we got in the car and drove away to a different hotel. Don't under any circumstances ever go to this hotel.

My advice to anyone wanting to book this hotel is don't! The Hotel itself is ok, but the staff are a disgrace, extremely rude and condescending. After coming from a lovely hotel in Bardolino (3 star no less) to this hole was a shock to the system. Gone were the friendly and attentive staff, gone was the bright and lovingly looked after building to a drab, inhospitable dive, a so called 5 star hotel. So shocked at our treatment, it coloured our view of the town somewhat.

Thankfully our stay was only one night, as if it would have been any longer in any case. The mixed reviews on this site are surprising, only in that I find it hard to believe anyone enjoyed their stay. Avoid.
