“The SPA area the Brufa SPA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

I only visited the SPA area, so did not spend any nights at the hotel. The SPA is very nice, clean, not too big so it was intimate. I was there on a Tuesday so there wasn't too much crowd either. The pools have all the bubbles and massage you can think of. There is a sauna for every taste. I liked especially the Finnish sauna which for my surprise was very close to a real Finnish sauna (though heated electrically, not with wood). The price for a half day (from 9am to 1pm) is 30€ which I think was ok for the services. The view from the outdoor pools is beautiful.

I stayed at the Borgobrufa hotel with business partners for 2 days. The hotel facility is very nice and the hotel rooms comfortable. A good restaurant and fantastic view of the Umbrian hills made our stay quite memorable. The problem was the SPA. You have to pay 15 euro to access it (even just for a sauna!), which is normally included in the room prize for hotels of this category. I booked a classic massage, it was more expensive than in London (80 euros for 45 minutes!) and the quality was below every standard I had before. When I complained at the SPA reception and by checking out, no one even gave an answer to me. There are much nicer (and cheaper!) hotels in the area.

Stayed here two nights and overall - nice and peaceful location between Perugia and Assisi so handy for visiting both by car. Hotel is in the country with nothing around so you have to eat in the hotel in the evening unless you want to drive (see later).

Plus points - good size room and bathroom. Clean and nicely decorated. Great views over the countryside. Lovely outdoor pool. Staff on the whole friendly and efficient and spoke English. On the Saturday night there was a duo singing in the bar area and they were good (though in general the place lacked atmosphere as it was so quiet).

Minus points - Rooms very dark, need better lighting. Limited menu in restaurant and although food was overall good it was very expensive for what it was. Beds hard for my liking and could hear the people in adjoing rooms. You had to pay an extra 40 euro per person just to use the spa which I thought was a rip off. I had booked a superior room to avoid getting a small room so, although I had printed off the offer voucher from trip advisor and presented it on check in, I was not offered any upgrade or extra so a bit peeved at that, some gesture would have been nice.

Overall my husband's summing up of this hotel is that it 'flatters to deceive'....looks nice but fails to deliver what it promises. Probably ok for a spa weekend and is ok generally but not one I would recommend or return to. No wow factor or feeling it was worth the price paid.

We stayed here last July and found it the ideal holiday with our children. Having booked a family suite (2 bedrooms with idyllic views over rolling countryside) through Expedia at a very good rate, we were set. A lovely pool, ancient olive trees to read a book under and closely located to the sights of Umbria we couldn't ask for more. When we stayed here the renown Umbria Jazz Festival was taking place in Perugia, and at just 20 minutes drive away, we were able to pop in and out for the various free open air concerts without having to worry about noise or crowds should we have taken a hotel in the centre. Yes, Borgo Brufa is incredibly tranquil, very elegant and, most importantly, comfortable. Our favourite day trips were to Gubbio, Assisi (eat at La Stalla for rustic fare), Bevagna and the towns around Lago Trasimeno. We love Umbria and if you want picture perfect, then Borgo Brufa is the way to go.

Room Tip: We thought the suite was excellent value for our family of 4. Beautiful view, too!

We only stayed here one night on our way down to the Almalfi coast. It was tough to leave the next morning!

The grounds are beautiful. The food was good, as was the service. Loved our connecting big rooms with views.

I think that's the best pool I've ever swam in. I love the jets and being able to swim indoors/outdoors. The only bummer was the fact it closed at 7pm so we had to hurry out, but the staff didn't push it.

We wanted to hit the road but succumbed to the temptation to take another dip before leaving.

Wish we had stayed longer!

This place is amazing! In a quiet area of Umbria, not much around but the hotel is beautiful. The staff are great and the rooms were lovely. Had a lovely dinner here. The breakfast is good, try the cereal and honey croissants. The view is lovely from the pool area. Didnt try the spa treatments as I was only there for 3 days on a fleeting visit to Tuscany but I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I will definitely be going back. Its worth hiring a car though as it really is secluded. If you want a luxurious quiet holiday then definitely choose the borgobrufa.

Borgobrufa is a fantastic place. It has everything; the location is just lovely with a view over the rolling slopes of Umbria and the town Perugia, a "benessere" area with heated pools, sauna etc etc and all the guests are walking around in their bathrobes. The rooms are a little small but nice. The food is excellent and the service is great! The only area for improvement is the Internet connection which is far to slow and not available all over the place. Don't miss this wonderful hotel if your are in the neighborhoud.
