I stayed at this hotel last year and gave it a fantastic review. This year my experience wasn't as good. The common parts of the hotel are beautiful. It's amazing being able to sit and have breakfast looking over the Tuscan hills. The pool is fantastic. The staff were generally really helpful. When I arrived I was shown to my (single) room which was completely different from what I had had the previous year. It was dark and had a heart shaped bed (!) which made the room really cramped. I asked for a different room and was told that for an extra 20 Euros a night, I could have a different room for the first two nights of my four night stay. So I agreed to this. The room was bigger and nicer, with a huge balcony, but the only furniture on the balcony was two rather uncomfortable chairs, and no table at all. The air conditioning was really poor (I got one of the staff to look at it and she turned it down as much as possible but it still wasn't cool enough for me to sleep properly). So after two days I moved back to original room. The bed wasn't really comfortable as I had to try and get into a position so that my legs weren't hanging off the end! Also the air conditioning was, again, poor.
As my room last year had been SO much better, and the common parts are so lovely, I get the impression that when the hotel was refurbished, maybe the money ran out at some point and not everything got fixed.
On balance, I'd stay here again, but would be very careful about which room I book.
