“Il Merlo (Blackbird) vicino @ Casole”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Being a long time traveller to this particular location I can agree with the comments and reviews posted on this site. Vincenzo is a very popular owner selling good food and local wine. It's a joy to eat here at this unpretentious establishment. Don't be put off by the looks of the place - it's excellent value.

“great food at a good price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We stayed in the vicinity and liked this place so much, we went there 3 nights out of 7! The restaurant doesn't look anything special, but the atmosphere is made by the happy crowd and the friendly owner and staff. The menu is quite varied with a good choice of antipasti, primi piatti, secondi and dolci. Some specifically Tuscan dishes. We tried most dishes on the menu. Everything we got was fresh and well prepared. We didn't try the pizza's, but they looked good, and others were obviously pleased with them.
Local wine is very cheap, bottled wine is cheap. We found the service excellent. The owner speaks good English and is very helpful. Value for money is excellent.

“Amazing food and the happiest restaurant owner ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

Vicenzo himself is reason enough to stop by and have dinner, we have never seen a happier restaurant owner. There can be a rather long wait for the bill, but you won't mind at all as it is part of the experience! :)

The pizza is amazing value for money, it was even big enough to take some home! The pasta with seafood is also a must try.

Also frequented by locals we are sure that everyone will enjoy the food here!

“A great local restaurant , driving past is a mistake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

This was a return visit and Vincenzo greets you as if you've never been away.
The food is of a high quality for a local restaurant/pizzeria,from the bruschetta and pasta starters to the grilled fish and fantastic pizza's, even the side dishes such as spinach were full of flavour.
The wine is very good value -good wines at 10 euro's , but the best is at the end as the pizza dolce -nutella/ marscopone pizza is out of this world -worth the visit all by itself!

“Recommended to us by local people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We arrived quite early (about 7:30 pm) without making a reservation. We were the first customers that Friday evening and were lucky to be served really quickly. As the time passed, more and more people arrived (mostly locals). Therefore we had to wait quite a while to pay the check. But have to remember, it's Italy: no rush when spending an evening in a restaurant !
We had a breasola, some pasta, tagliata and sausages for our kids. The food was great, and so was the atmosphere.
