“La Crociona - A True Feeling of Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012 via mobile

My wife and I stayed at La Crociona at the end of June for 6 nights before we went to Venice and Rome. What a great place and excellent value. We had never been to Italy before and it was a perfect place to stay as we visited the Tuscany countryside and visited the hillside towns.

I recommend to spend a little time up in the front office/welcome center/tasting room with the family and Giulia. They are very nice and lots of fun. The rooms were exceptionally clean and you really felt like you were living in the Tuscan country.

I would Highly Recommend a driver if you are going to want to get around without having to worry about getting lost...and if you enjoy wine tastings and/or wine with lunch. They recommended a gentleman named Giancarlo and it could not have worked out better. He was very flexible, loved Tuscany and provided a very good price. Giancarlo really helped make the stay as great as it was.

My wife and I will definitely be going back as I now consider these folks as freinds.

We could not have had a more wonderful stay at La Crociona. The property is beautiful, relaxing, and everything one might imagine a trip to the Tuscan Hills to be. We stayed a week, and, by the time we left, we felt as if we were family as well as friends. We especially enjoyed our cooking class taught by Fiorella with her assistants Marissa and Maria. The class was followed by a most memorable family meal, which set the tone for the rest of our visit. Our apartment was clean and inviting, offered beautiful views and a stovetop espresso maker with espresso to fill it. We had all the amenities we needed for an extremely comfortable week in Tuscany. The agriturismo's central location made it possible for us to take day trips by rental car to Siena, the beach, and several other points of interest in the region. The town of Montelcino provided wonderful sights, interesting shops, and delightful restaurants during our visit. Wine lovers will particularly enjoy tasting, buying, and drinking the great red wines, particulary the brunello, made by the family on the property. We highly recommend this excellent estate for its location, value, and personal attention. We have only fond memories and hope to stay at La Crociona during our next visit to Tuscany.

Perhaps things have changed. But our 2 night stay was not what was expected.

First, the positive - the location about 5 min from Montalcino is lovely. The apartment (1 of 7 set within the wine making property) was fine, although unspectactular. We had 2 rooms, each with a double bed. The kitchen area was plain, if servicable. No English TV (among hundreds of stations), although that doesn't matter at all. (The owner said they had CNN, but they did not. For importance - read on...)

The owner, Barbara, is nice, but very busy. She did not have time to show us the overall property, and briefly showed us the apartment.

What really bothered us was what went on on the adjacent property on Friday night. The adjacent property is some form of public space, available for parties and such. Last night, there was a band, which could be heard for a long distance (drums, microphones, the whole bit), playing until 1 am! It is very hot in Tuscany, and not possible to sleep at all with the windows closed (not that it would have made a difference). Our family had to stay up until the party ended.

This is unacceptable, especially out in the country so far. In fact, the owners of this property themselves have tourbuses and many guests for events in their conference center. I fear it is loud very frequently.

We were neither offered a rebate, refund, nor even a credit towards the 4 sodas we purchased from the owners.

I must say this is NOT a risk worth taking. The owner was clearly mad at the neighbors (she repeatedly criticized them), and I cannot see staying there nor recommending it. Stay elsewhere.

This is a great vineyard with several rooms for rent. The rooms are managed by the same family that owns the vineyard and they go out of their way to be helpful. We stayed in Room B, the room itself was amazing, with a small kitchenette (which we used several times) and a huge fire place (which made for amazing evenings). The location is great also, 10 minutes driving outside of Montalcino, keeps you close to civilization but remote enough that you can truly enjoy the country side. Also, plenty of winery's close by.

Four trips to different parts of Italy and we always make time to go back to Tuscany and stay at La Crociona. Fiorella, Robert, and Barbera all make you feel like your a part of their family. The estate is beautiful and all the rooms are filled with antiques. There is fresh lavender, rosemary, and fig trees growing all over the property aside from all the hecters of grapes. There is a huge outdoor pool on premises and it is a great location for touring other vinyards as well. We stayed at this location for several nights and could drive to neighboring Montalpuciano, Cortona, Pienza, and Deruta for day trips. The history behind their Brunello wine label "Crocce di Mezzo" , church in the middle, is amazing to hear. They welcome you with a wonderful glass of their luscious Brunello wine and we always come home with several bottles. The first time we stayed at La Crociona we were driving off in our car and Fiorella was standing outside waving goodbye to us. We have been back every since.

I stayed at La Crociona in March with my friend.
I received a warm welcome from Fiorella, Barbara,
and Roberto.
I enjoyed the experience of living on a vineyard estate,
and I found Roberto's tour of the wine cellars and his
explanation of their wine and olive oil production
very interesting. I especially enjoyed the wine and
olive oil tasting.
I stayed in the loft in the vineyard which was cool.
The location was superb for visits to Montalcino, Banfi,
Pienza and Montepulciano.

Had to cancel my reservation and unscrupulous owners (thieves) charged my credit card. NEVER received reservation number or ANY CANCELLATION POLICY. What a bunch of crooks and thieves!!! There are many other nicer, friendlier and CHEAPER places to stay in this area. Choose another place, not this crooked "establishment".
