“Very nice hotel with lovely views & pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

This is a lovely place; great breakfasts; beautiful pool with stunning views. Some of the rooms are a bit quirky, e.g., on two levels, so just be prepared for this. Good wifi connections. Well situated for exploring the town of Montalcino or a base for further explorations.

De Capitani hotel is not trying to be anything that it is not. I booked directly on their website, which went very smoothly.
We were warmly greeted on arrival. The room was not large but adequate with great views..The pool is not big but great to cool of in after a day travelling around Tuscany.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was OK, but not very imaginative, could be improved.
I would stay here again

We spent two nights in this hotel as part of an organised unguided walking trip in Tuscany. Admittedly we had taken the bottom option on accommodation as we did not think we would be in our room or the hotel for a large part of the day. I guess this shows you get what you pay for. The room was comfortable but was of a loft style. The air conditioner struggled and the loft was uncomfortably hot. Sleep was difficult. The temperature was not excessive outside so what it would be like in really hot weather I shudder to think.
In addition the bathroom fan was noisy so when one tried quietly to answer the call of nature in the early hours downstairs one's was disturbed by the excessive noise. In addition the stairs were steep and difficult to climb down
However the room although in need of a make over was clean. The breakfast good. An average hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room without a loft if possible and with a view

Had difficulty finding hotel despite having a map, but soon found a friendly local to ask.
Free parking right next to hotel down a very steep slope and bend, so not recommended for large vehicles.
Really enjoyed our stay here, comfy rooms beds etc, nice breakfast & no problem asking for more coffee, nice staff. What really makes this place special is the view from the terrace / breakfast room / lounge. It was wonderful. I'm glad we paid extra for a room with a view too, but saying that we weren't in our rooms much so it didn't really mattter.
There is a nice sun terrace and small pool but it was too cool to use but it did look fab though.
Loved staying in Montalcino. Lovely views all around, especially from top of Fortress (which is accessed through the wine bar inside the walls). Some nice places to eat, especially Il Grifo about 5 minutes walk away on the main street.
Probably best not to stay in this hotel if you have problems walking up hill as very steep hill from hotel into town. Only a couple of 100 meters but very steep.
Take earplugs as the walls are very thin!

Room Tip: If you want a view, pay the extra - its so worth it!

Everything about this hotel was good. The beds were comfortable, the room with a view was great, but the best part was that every single one of the staff were friendly, helpful, accommodating, and cheerful. I would highly recommend this hotel. It also had beautiful public areas to sit and enjoy the views!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, although we enjoyedthe sitting areas rather than being in our rooms

Our experience in Hotel Dei Capitani was wonderful.
The reception staff was very efficient and helpfull; they suggested the best restaurants and wineries.
The buffet breakfast and the best cappuccino we’ve ever tasted in Italy, with a magnificent view in the valley, was a good beginning for each day
The weather was cold and rainy, was a pitty! It would be very nice to use the swimming pool and terrace but we still relaxed reading a book with a glass of brunello in the leaving room.
We leaving in italy and we will return for sure with a family.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the view

We spent a month in Italy and this was our biggest disappointment. The hotel room was okay until you realized you could hear everything your neighbors were saying. Montalcino is ALL about selling wine and we bought some. When we asked the desk if we could sit out on their balcony to enjoy a glass of their wine, we were told "No!" If we wanted to sit on their balcony with wine, we had to buy from them. Otherwise, you must stay in your room to drink your own wine. Also, we asked how to turn on the AC unit in our room (not so much for cold air, just circulation). We were told NO - they decide when to turn it on and they were not doing it now. It was cool outside but our room was above the outside patio and the people laughing and talking from the outside lounge kept us awake for hours. Anytime we asked for help, we seemed to get attitude in return. Will never return!

Dear Sirs,
we are really sorry to have ruined your end of vacation in Italy and if we would have known your disappointment while here we surely would have tried to explain the motivation of our denials.

Concerning the “beverage” denials we have to explain that we have had bad experience in the past (broken bottles, broken glasses, food rests left on the table) and so we decided to be more restrictive, and now all are paying for someone’s bad behavior.
But the night you asked for it others situations have been added to it:
- We were accommodating a very noisy group and, even if that was posing at risk (as actually happened, and as you “listened”) the quiet and the decorum of the Hotel, we could not deny them the beverage service as they bought bottles of wine from us.
- Other people were asking for using our sitting rooms for a sort of picnic with wine, cheese and ham.
-Other ones tried to do the same thing by the pool.
So the person at the front-desk, preoccupied that the situation could became unmanageable, said “no” to all, and, unfortunately, to You too. Probably the denial should have been motivated better.

Concerning the air conditioning we are sorry but we were having very bad weather and it was impossible for us to turn it on, during the hot season each room has an independent system and the Guest can manage it by them selves.

We are writing you because we have in high consideration our Guests opinion: suggestions and constructive critics help us growing to give the best stay experience.

You stated that you will never come back; otherwise we sincerely hope to welcome you here again to show you that we are not so “negative”.
