“Countryside experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014

We arrived to Montalcino for our 1-day-trip around lunch time, we checked the fortress and headed for lunch. This place was very close to bus station and looked nice, non-tourist, and they had terrace, so we went in.
Long story short - good food for reasonable price, non-tourist location, nice outdoor seating. The service was very slow but I believe we arrvied at bad time / bad day (cca 13:00) - there was nobody, it looked like they were not even open and that we interrupted family lunch (the whole family was dining just next table from us). And that was the very interesting part - countryside, family, slow-moving-time atmosphere (slower than in Inception :-))
We had primi, wine de la casa and dessert.
Primi - 1. pici with pepper and pecorino cheese (very good but not great) and 2. gnocchi with sauce from famous Montalcino wine Brunello - this must be definitely their local speciality, it was great. Primi prices are around 8-9 EUR.
Wine de la casa 8 EUR / 0.5l (super wine); water 2 EUR / 1l; espresso 1.5 EUR. There is service fee (coperto) 2 EUR per person.
Desserts - chocolate foam and panna cotta, 5 EUR each. The desserts weren't anyhow special, not even very good you might say, thats probably the main reason why the overall result is only very good, otherwise could have been excellent.

“A wonderful find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

My wife and I stopped in to Montalcino hoping to explore the town and find a bite to eat. Not having any information about where to eat, we viewed the menu outside of Osteria d'altri Tempi and stepped inside, not really knowing what to expect. What we found was delicious food and a welcoming staff. The chef was gregarious and our plates--gnocchi with a wonderful brunello sauce, and caceo e pepe--were well-prepared and very tasty.

“Quiet dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

A nice quiet dinner off the main road where everyone passes in the center of montalcino. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. The wine was great- the Brunello was made also in the owners vineyard! and so was the food, I have stewed wild boar! delicious! The prices were great for being in the center of town and the service was relaxed.

“An unexpected feast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

The most positive reviews here are understated: this unassuming restaurant is simply excellent, and, incidentally, very reasonable. We unexpectedly showed up with a group of thirty, and our hosts not only welcomed the horde warmly, assembling a long table on the beautiful shaded terrace, but they magicked up a feast. This is exceptional Tuscan cookery. Absolutely everything, course after course -- wonderfully varied bruschette, pastas, sauces, cheeses, roast meats, vegetables -- was just delicious. The vegetarians were accommodated -- again, on no notice at all -- with superb risottos and an eggplant parmesan which was declared by one to be "the most delicious thing" she'd ever tasted. Not only that, the restaurant accommodated celiacs, both vegetarian and non. That is, the chef was inventive and exceptionally generous. Some of the vegetarians were almost swayed by the smells of the roast meat and which was, according to the carnivores' reports, perfectly succulent. Finally, the wines were excellent, and most of us bought bottles to take away. We will certainly return (but with proper notice next time).

“Wonderful food - very friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2010

Had a birthday dinner here - the chef is from Canada and it was a slow night so he came out to talk to us after our meal. It was great to hear about his experience moving from Canada to Montalcino and working in the restaurant. The flavors were excellent--we loved our meals. My husband had the boar and it was our first chance to try boar with Brunellos. That is a MUST TRY when you are in Montalcino.
