“Unforgettable Montalcino”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

We just spent three nights in beautiful Porta Castellana. Annalisa made us feel like family from the moment we arrived. She gave us lots of helpful information regarding places in town and nearby. The room is very comfortable and extremely clean with a great view. Breakfast was served outside in the garden with a gorgeous view. Extremely relaxing. You can sit outside in the evening with a glass of wine and enjoy the scenery. Montalcino is a lovely town with lots of wineries nearby. If you are planning a visit to Tuscany make sure you go to Montalcino and stay at Porta Castellana. One day we will return and enjoy it as much as we did on our first visit!

My partner and I recently stayed at this B&B and we had such a lovely time.
We received a room with a four poster bed, which was unique and added to the Tuscan/romantic feel. The bedding and bathroom were immaculately clean and comfortable (a hairdryer was supplied).
The breakfast was brought down into our room, which was appreciated. It was a typical Italian breakfast (just what my Nonna eats!) with some cut fruit, coffee, and biscuits.
The host was so lovely and really made us feel at home. She also helped us out with choosing a restaurant to dine at, which ended up being a good night out.
You will not be disappointed with this B&B - it was actually a highlight of our time in Tuscany, which was unexpected! Enjoy!

What a wonderful B&B! Annalisa made us feel right at home upon arrival. We enjoyed our two night stay here. The town is very romantic. The room was very clean and comfortable. I loved the stone and brick interior. The shower is a little small. There are a lot of steps to get to the main piazza(or you can walk the long way to avoid them). The breakfast was good, the views were beautiful from the gazebo outside where we ate. My wife and I enjoyed a nice glass of wine out there after taking a winery tour in the evening. I would recommend this place to anyone. Can't wait to get back again!

Good location in the center of Montalcino, close to nice restaurants and amazing wine stores with good prices. Place looks very familiar and Dida, who run it, is always ready to help whatever you might need. Rooms are at the first floor of a two store house, and had a nice rustic decor. Average breakfast, similar to many ohter we had while in Italy, but the view from the backyard whereytou have it is gourgeous. The only problem we faced was the heat, once the rooms don't have air, and that time in Montalcino was very hot. The ventilator that was provided us didn't work as well as an air would have done.

Dida made our stay a real pleasure, with excellent hospitality, expert guidance, and a wonderful room. Parking right in front, a beautiful view of the valley and of the hillside olive tree orchard, and a few steps away from the restaurants and cafes in Montalcino. We look forward to returning!

This place is like a dream! We loved the view, the beautiful room with the arched ceiling, so nicely decorated, and the lovely gazebo and peaceful garden! Annalisa is such a wonderful, friendly and helpful host! She greeted us by letting us pick sweet apricots from her trees, and even showed us the way out of the city when we left. She was very accomodating in bringing in a rollaway bed for our daughter. The bathroom was small but modern and very, very clean! For breakfast, we had a choice of sweet or savory, and we chose the savory option, and she served us a wonderful plate of salami, ham,and other meats along with toast and jams and fruit! the coffee was wonderful as well, with fresh milk! we ate along to some country music being played by the neighbor next door. Truly a wonderful experience in Tuscany, not to be missed!

Our 13 year old daughter kept on telling me that she felt like she was in a movie.

We will be coming back, Annalisa!

We (me and my husband) stayed at Porta Castellana two nights (28-30.04.2012.) on our way to Amalfi. What you can seeon the hotel`s website speaks for itself (it`s not really a hotel but who cares). What you can`t see is its owner - Dida. She is a lovely person, makes you feel at home and the best concierge all the top hotels could dream of. She arranged wonderful meals for us in Montalcino; she helped us buy wonderful Tuscan olive oil; she also arranged different visits to local wineries (for an Irish couple who were staying with us at Porta Castellana; unfortunately we didn`t have enough time for that). While walking in Montalcino, it seems that all the doors there gets open when one mentions the name "Dida".
The room was very cosy, yet very Tuscan (brick walls, old-fashioned furniture, very stylish little things adding that special touch, you just know where you are). The place is very clean. The room was "invisibly" made up while we were having our breakfast. The breakfast is simple, very Italian (delicious coffee, fresh fruit) served outside in a gazebo in a very neat garden with wonderful views of Montalcino and the valley.
If you arrive in Montalcino by car, no problem you can park your car right in front of your room (not an easy task there) although you might need a good GPS to guide you.
Before booking at Dida`s, make sure your knees are ok. Getting from Porta to Montalcino needs climbing almost 100 steps up the hill. For us, it was just an internal part of our stay. Tuscany is not a flat region so what one can expect ...
