“Continues to be a great formula for a relaxing week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Have seen some of the latest reviews and most are reflect the Marinedda experience accurately which is a combination of great 'can do' service ethic coupled with a fantastic beachside location.

Pros
Great service
Comfortable rooms with good AC (our had an external shower as well as the indoor one which was really great after a day at the beach.
Its a very relaxed environment (because the rooms are spread our over the hill which runs down to the beach you really never get a sense that the hotel is full or busy)
Golf buggy service if you don't want to tackle the hills are always around
Food was improved on 2010 in the a la carte Punta Canedda restaurant, Ate a couple of times in the buffet restarant but found the 'up and down' effect a bit less relaxing probably better for families.
Beach beds and beach team although you pay for these I think it was worth it
Relaxed enrtainment in the evening which finishes at 11pm. Almost everyone has a drink after dinner,
Free wifi for first hour but only in the recption area which is usually enough to catch up on stuff. Frankly if you need longer or faster connections you shouldn't be holiday!

Cons
Very few really so I'm going to offer some personal preferences so I understand that not all will agree with.

The Italians are known for their style but when it comes to the lighting especially in the dining rooms in the evening the lighting is much too bright for me. Taking out every other bulb would make for a more relaxing experience?

The third restaurant which is the second a la carte one you book and pay for above the Punta Canedda is a bit of a non event really and not widely used. Often the food s similar to the free Punta Canedda. I think the Marinedda should convert it to a roof top bar area where people could go for drinks and look out over the Med. I think this would be a great idea?

Although outside of their area the coastal walk to Isola Rossa which runs between the two sister hotels has too much litter. I think the Marinedda should consider sending in some guys to pick up litter at least once per week. I would reflect better on the hotel if the surrounding area was better looked after. (Marinedda, I know you are going to say its the local councils responsibility but this isnt working so be bold and improve the area outside of the hotel grounds).

The price of wine has gone up and whilst there are a few bottles at 14-16 euros these aren't great. Most are 20 euros plus. I'm sure that you'd sell much more wine if you offered the 25 euro stuff at around 18 euros,

Finally the snack lunches around the lower salt water pool should be better. Check out the beach bar (not the hotel one) located just behind the hotel beach beds for an example of how casual dining should be done. Service is not uber friendly but efficient and the food is good and great value. Plates of excellent pasta for 5 euros and a prosecco for 4 euros

These are just suggestions to help make really good hotel great and won't stop me from returning in the future.

Room Tip: Beds are v firm but you can ask for a matress topper which was excellent. I think the Spa may be run...

We got back from holiday at the hotel few days ago. I have to say before we went , we were looking at the reviews here, we were hoping that would be really nice place to stay. Unfortunately not lived up to our expectations. Will start with the positive first: staff are really very nice and make you feel special. Rooms are very big (at least ours was) and with a nice sea view. The entire hotel is spotless! But that’s where all ends.

We booked half board breakfast and dinner. For lunch we ate at the bar by the swimming pool – choice was very poor, and as we ate there every day, we tried almost everything. Nothing but one meal was nice! I was so disappointed! For dinner we ate in their main buffet restaurant, and bear in mind if you are not a sea food person you will go to bed hungry! All they offered was a beef meat most nights which is very rare cooked and extremely red! Some nights they offered pork and turkey as well but not to my taste at all (here I will say that all of the meat they were offering is the cheapest you can find on the market)! At one of the last nights I even had to call a waiter and ask him to prepare something different for me as I was really going to go hungry in the room. Anyway nothing stops there... As you probably read the hotel has 3 restaurants. One of them is the most “exclusive” one and you have to pay £12 per person in addition to half board if you would like to dinner there. Anyway, we decided that we will try. I never ate anything more tasteless in my life, cannot even describe it! Furthermore, there was no music at all and it seemed really boring. Overall, we probably didn’t have even one meal that we liked (that includes the cheap deserts that they served every evening).

At breakfast – some of the fruit was from a can! The rest of the fruit not fresh at all and over ripped!

Next and main thing that frustrated us was how overpriced and expensive that hotel is! Any drink -coffee or soft drink is 3euros. Fresh is 5euros. Vodka and coke will cost you 10 euros. When we dinner at the pool bar we never paid less than 25 euro for both of us.
Also half board included only 1 bottle of water in the price! If you want a soft drink or another bottle of water – will cost you 3 euro!

Not to mention that we were there at 1pm, and our room was still not ready we had to wait an hour!

Anything, anything that you might want to use cost you money:
- To use the gym – 28 euro per person per day! That is unbelievable!
- Room service 10 euro per person
- Wireless is available only at reception the first one hour is free, and then you have to pay – 3 euro per hour!!!
- If you go to the beach you need to pay 10 euro per person for sun bed!

We found this ridicules as it just summed up with everything else. This hotel is not in the league! Don’t be fooled by the pictures – the beach and location is not as nice!

I would not recommend this hotel as even though the atmosphere is relaxing there are many children by the pool and hotel charge you money that it is just not worth to pay when you spent £2000 at first place(via Thomson).

This is an amazing place to stay. Whilst we had high hopes that this would be a good holiday, we were still bowled over by the quality of the hotel, great service, delicious quality and range of food. We travelled with two young children of four and six, so had different requirements than most visitors, but the hotel consistently exceeded expectations.

Accommodation. We booked a suite and were pleasantly surprised that the kids had a separate large bedroom, with their own tv and wardrobe. They slept in two single sofa beds which were great as they had a little bit of a bed side and so the kids were not at risk of falling out of bed. The bathroom was much larger than we were expecting, with two sinks and a large shower. The fittings were clean and modern. The balcony was also great, quite spacious, good sea view and with reasonably large table and a number of chairs. We stayed in Room 366 which was a great location as half way between main hotel building and the main swimming pool area. Would definitely recommend this location.

Food. Absolutely great, only downside was to the waistline. It was great to be able to get freshly made cappuccinos at breakfast and the kids had lovely fried eggs made to order at each breakfast. The evening meals were of great variety and of a quality and freshness that would match very good restaurants back home in London. We pre-ordered each day off the kids menu for our little ones and they were very well catered for. The staff were amazing, efficient and wonderfully attentive and polite.

Swimming pools. The main sea water pool was lovely. Didn't need to rush out to grab sun beds and arm bands supplied for the kids with an attentive life guard in place. The pool bar was fabulous - the lunch snacks were inexpensive but delicious and plenty of variety. With two young kids we found that we could get away with a couple of dishes and a round of drinks for under 15 euros in total.

Beaches. Both the beaches by the hotel and in the actual village at Isola Rossa were lovely. The latter was especially ideal for very young kids, but had no issues with the beach near the hotel - it does slope slightly as you get in but we did not have any worries with young kids. We used the hotel shuttle bus to go into Isola Rossa and found it fairly easy to walk back in 15 mins with two young kids walking as well. Whilst walk back is up hill, the moderately steep bit is only about 200 metres then you can go downhill at the road junction before the hotel. This road then takes you down to the entrance of the hotel by the hotel beach and if need be you can hop onto the hotel buggy from here (never waited more than 2 minutes for a buggy ride!).

Hotel. Quite modern, clean and amazing hill side location facing out to a beautiful bay. The setting at meal times and lazying around the reception area was absolutely stunning. The staff in every area were absolutely exceptional, attentive and polite. It will be very hard to beat the wonderful service that we received. The buggy service was great and definitely helped with two young kids.

This was a marvellous holiday and whilst we only stayed a week, we were thoroughly refreshed.

This hotel is perfect if you are on holiday with young children. The pools and animation/entertainment is great and there is so much to see on the hotel grounds. The beach is really fantastic and the water is crystal clear and does not have many waves. Beach umbrellas and lounger service is also first class and it was always possible to get chairs at least 2nd row before the waters edge. The staff (especially Sara) is very very friendly and extremely helpful. If you lose something, even if its just of sentimental value, they will look for it and help you however they can. Breakfast buffet is great. The only trouble is that it is not for couples who want a quiet getaway. Too many children in August. We booked a romantic dinner on the roof terrace and it was fantastic until the childrens entertainment started on the stage below. Then the music and singing will of course change the mood of your dinner slightly. Also, the Beds are really rock hard and will make sure you will get up and seek relief on the beach loungers. Definitely a problem if you plan on staying longer. Overall nice place though. Will definitely return with family one day.

We're just back from our third trip to La Marinedda and we had another wonderfully relaxing week. The key thing that makes this hotel so good is the staff - they are so friendly and helpful, it makes such a difference. The rooms are fairly plain in their furnishings, but always spotlessly clean. With the wonderful view of the sea view, you really won't be looking at anything else in any case! Food was top notch once again - great variety and good quality.

Room Tip: It really is worth paying extra for a sea view -it's outstanding!

I think the reviews here are pretty accurate. The hotel is spread out with low rise villas over a sloping hillside. The staff are well trained and helpful. The hotel is clean and quite well appointed. The food in the restaraunts is excellent. We were a family from UK. We had the half board which worked well. The dinner buffet selection was very good, especially if you want a variety of local dishes. There is a path down to a small beach and its not far from the local village of Isola Rossa. Some points that might help. Try to book an upper floor room, then you will get sea views. The lower floor has a garden view. The place is quite hilly so might not be good for elderly, or people with mobility issues. There is not much for active children. Evening kids activities were all in Italian. Wine prices in the restaraunt are high even for local wines. If you walk into town you can get a bottle of local wine for 5 Euros, carry back and drink it on your balcony!. In the restaraunt it will cost 20-25 Euros. Satellite TV was a small old style TV, English was only BBC World Service. This is a very nice hotel, although quite pricey. Best for couples wanting to chill out.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room to get a sea view.

This hotel was absolute perfection, unable to top it in any way or form. We arrived quite late, around 2am after a long drive from the airport and a flight etc.. We thought we would just check in and go straight to bed but the lovely desk staff said they were expecting us to arrive soon and had prepared a light meal (with amazing desserts!) for us and kept a bottle of wine for us too. Such a lovely, thoughtful gesture!

We booked a suite for the two of us and it was so lovely, we had our own balcony and a huge living area and bathroom. It was all immaculate and cleaned daily. The staff were great throughout our stay, no query was too much for them. The food was a great too, so much choice. I'm vegetarian (my partner not so..) and we both found the food to be brilliant and varied every day.

We also booked one of the spa packages which was really nice too, and quite empty so it felt like we had our own private area when we visited.

I would highly recommend hiring a car, we drove to loads of tiny private beaches that we wouldn't have found in any other way, it was absolutely worth it. Driving to Isola Rossa town was also very quick - worth it for the pizza too!

All in all it was a beautiful hotel, and made our stay in Sardina perfect, I would highly recommend it. Definitely plan on going again and this time for longer than 5 days.
