“wot a nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2010

this was a really nice and basic hotel, the freshwater pool was fab, the rooms clean but spacious and the beds comfy, breakfast is basic meat.bread, cheese etc but also was really nice with yoghurts and cereal. Monica and Marco are very friendly and you see they work hard for the cost of less than £60per night, ask to go to the local food farm... la nubina... it is truly amazing as you watch the sun go down and they bring a set 5/6 course meal with wine for approx 27 euros. Sardinia is very basic so dont expect all the fancy bells and whistles, and if you font like pizza or pasta you could struggle a bit. It is much more of a rustic holiday but well worth it.

I've stayed in the Ariadimari a few times now and you get exactly as advertised. It's a small family run hotel in a small town in northern sardinia. The owners Marco and Monica are lovely and are very helpful, and they speak good english too.

The rooms are always clean and any problems (extra pillows etc) are quickly sorted. The bed linen and towels are changed everyday and the rooms are airconditioned all though the darkness of the rooms means they are naturally cool anyway.

If you are expecting a huge buffet style breakfast you will be dissapointed, it is a typical Sardinian style breakfast, a pastry and a coffee although they do have rolls, cakes and juice too. I'd love a full Irish breakfast but I'd go to Spain if I was that bothered :-)

The hotel is about 5 mins from the town centre, and even in winter there are normally at least two restaurants open, if one is closed the other is about a 10 minute walk the other side of town.

The nearest beach to the hotel is San Pietro a mare, and it is beautiful with views of Castelsardo to the east and Isola Rosso to the west, in October when I was last there the weather was still high 20's and the beach was very quiet. The only noise was the waves rolling in. In good weather it is possible to see Corsica from the beach.

Valledoria is only a small town, so don't expect too much, it has ~10 cafe bars so there's never any problem getting a coffee or a beer and I have alwas found the locals to be friendly, especially if you try to communicate in Italian. Sardinian cooking is simple but there is enough variety to satisfy most and the seafood is delightful. Try a local agritourismo for some authentic cooking.

Myself and my girlfriend have just returned from a wonderfull trip to sardinia.....unfortunatly the word wonderfull does not describe this "hotel" (more like a glorified hostel,in fact a hostel would have been better) i've never written a bad review about a place before but i felt i had to after our experience in this hotel, upon arrival we were told we didnt have a fridge in our room which they advertised and which we specifically asked for when booking, with temperatures reaching 35dgs it would have been nice to have some cool drinks in your room, however we ignored this and still looked forward to our stay.
Next morning went down to breakfast.....utterly dissapointing, what tasted liike kia-ora as "juice" a couple of bread rolls and some mixed jams that's it nothing else and this was every single morning.
This place should not be fooling people into thinking it is a hotel, the hotel owners are the most ignorant and arrogant people i have come accross in sardinia and these were the people who should have been going out of there way to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one, instead they make you feel like you are not welcome they have no personallity and do not want to do anything for you what so ever so dont ask, upon checking out the owner did not even say goodbye, thanks for staying, how was your holiday....nothing not a thing did not even open his lips just took the keys and continued what he was doing, they dont even raise a smile or say hello when you pass them to your room, they really should not be running a hotel and we were not the only guests who didnt like this place.
The pool is 2 metres deep all round so make sure you can swim, there was no poolside bar as advertised, there is no restaurant at all nothing as advertised, there is no snack bar,no way of buying any drinks they don't sell anything here and you cannot even use the fridge downstairs to cool your drinks down (we had to buy a cooler box and keep filling with ice),it was a 10-15 minute walk to the town and the nearest shop, drinking or eating in your room was frowned upon as was hanging your wet towels and shorts on the balcony.
The only saving grace this place has is that the linnen is changed daily and there is air-con in the rooms......THAT'S IT !!!!
The location of this place was out of the town in what seemed like a suburban back alley kind of area, quiet and dark.
I could actually go on and on about this place but my advice would be to spend the few extra quid and go for something that has a bit of a better reputation about it this place is cheap for a reason and i totally do not reccomend it for any more than one nights stay (we were there for a week and a half,it was supposed to be 2 weeks but we forfit the last few days to go to alghero we just had enough of this place by then) !!!!
As for sardinia well what a find this country is absolutely amazing place to go on holidays, gorgeous beaches, lovely food (get used to pizza and pasta it's everywhere) and in general the people are nice, but definatly rent a car for your stay it is well needed !!!!!

  • Liked — Air conditioning in room and daily linnen change.
  • Disliked — Almost everything from breakfast to complete lack of services and service down to the bad location

Excellent value hotel in an unspoiled part of Sardinia. Although the breakfast is basic, unlimited coffee, tea and juice make it worth while. The rooms are a little spartan but are very clean and the beds are very comfy, The bathroom is spacious and well equipped, and the air-conditioning worked extreemly well. The staff are very friendly even though some of them do not speak English we muddled through.
The hotel does not have a restaurant but there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance.
It is worth noting that the pool is 2metres deep in most places and is not really suitable for the kids unless you watch them all of the time.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate in going back.

The pool was this hotel's only saving grace. The greeting from the management was friendly but didn't last and we were only there 2 nights! The rooms were comfortable but the bathrooms smelt; the advertised poolside bar was shut and a bit of an eyesore- used to store old chairs and inflatables. There were no hotel facilities on offer- ie. no drinks etc. available day or evening, and no staff to be seen. In fact the hotel was more like a motel in terms of its facilities. Also, breakfast was poor- bread rolls, croissants and drinks- no fruit, yoghurt, cereal or ham/cheese. Would not recommend staying here above a couple of nights- we'd exhausted the small resort of Valledoria in that time too.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Ariadimari. We found the hotel to be reasonable value, cleanliness extremely good and the pool nice.
Now for the minus points : The Ariadimari is in the middle of a residential area in Valledoria, an unattractive town with little to offer tourists.
On arrival we asked Marco(the owner) about a fridge for the room-at times it was 39 degrees and cold drinks would have been good, there was no fridge available (website said they could be requested), during our stay we were friendly with 3 other families-none of them had fridges either. The website said guests could enjoy cool drinks from the poolside bar, well the bar was there but not open once during our stay.
Our room bore no resemblance to the photo on the website-it was small and dark, with natural light only through the door.
None of the rooms had their own balconies and there were no facilities to dry any wet items- hanging items outside or on railings to dry was frowned upon by the owners and resulted in notices being placed in offenders' rooms.
Breakfast took the same form every day -rolls and croissants with coffee and unidentfiable juice-very monotonous for 14 days.
Throughout our stay Marco and his wife Monica showed no interest whatsoever in their guests and were not in the least friendly - overall not what you expect in a three star hotel.

Agree with the previous reviews. Very clean bright airy rooms, sheets and towels changed daily - even after our arrival at 11.30pm! Pool great, clean and inviting although the poolside bar was unmanned and appeared to have been that way for some time ( don't know why) so no drinks/snacks. Breakfast was croissants, crusty rolls and jams and coffee. A little variety wouldn't go a miss here ie. fruit and cereals, however this certainly didn't spoil our 9 night stay. Overall a peaceful, chilled out place to stay.
As for Sardinia - STUNNING! No hassles anywhere. Why do long haul to the Carribean when the equivalent beaches are just 2+ hours away.........go see for yourself and take a phrase book as we were " the only english in the village! "
