We had a great time at the friendly, family run Hotel Riviera. The hotel isn't luxurious, but it is clean. It can be noisy, but that can't really be helped if one stays on the main road around Lake Como (mad traffic). It didn't bother me.

The hotel has a restaurant and I believe the father was the head chef. Try the specials! Our last night there I had one of my top 3 favorite meals while in Italy. The breakfast pastries and cappucino/espresso were a good value. It would be tough to find another option in the fall anyway as most places had shut down for the season.

If you want a quick 1-hour hike, you can take the road next to the hotel up the mountain to San Martino. It's steep, but the views of the lake are fantastic.

The Riviera has a great view of Bellagio and is a quick 5 minute walk from the ferry. Another plus is that the bus from the train station stops directly in front of the hotel.

It's true that you pick up your own key at the front desk, some of the time but I was never concerned.

A small friendly, family run hotel in a small village on the shores of Lake Como with very friendly english-speaking staff. If have no car of own can catch the bus from Como train station and any village on the way, bus stops right outside hotel. The ferry stop is just a few metres away and will take you to Menaggio, Varenna, Tremezzo, Lenno & Bellagio. The hotel is basic but has it's own restaurant & bar and any problems are quickly solved. The only downside is that it is on a main road which can make the nights a bit noisy but the views over the lake are spectacular

My wife and I are travelling round Europe and looking mainly for reasonable / budget accomodation.

This was a friendly family run hotel, in great village on Lake Como, about 30 mins drive from Como. There were awesome views of the lake from the decent size room and Cadenabbia was also a fine village for the lake, but you do need a car, which is true regardless of where you are (except perhaps Como itself).

As this hotel was more like a room in a family's house it lacked a certain professionalism (although some people may like that charm ...), e.g. no mini-bar, but you could just pop down to the restaurant and get a drink, no internet and there was only a general safe. Oftern there was no one on the 'fron desk' so you just picked up your own key (personally I felt this a big security issue, but the whole area fdid feel generally safe)

Also, our room had no a/c and as it was aboove the main lake road , when the windows were open (which was most of the time as it was so warm) it was very noisy ... deep sleepers only

However, manager / owner is friendly, everyone speaks english and it was 80 EUR pn and included a buffet breakfas, wich seemed pretty good, given peak season and the views ...

Stayed here on 7th and 8th of March 2007.

We arrived after midnight (our flight didnt get into Malpensa until 10:30pm). The staff were very friendly and happy to get us some wine and and we sat on the Balcony overlooking the lake.

The views over the lake across to Bellagio and Varena are fantastic.

Boat stop is 100 yards down road (as you come out of hotel turn right). This regular boat goes across to Cadenabbia -> Bellagio -> Varenna -> Menaggio and back again. We bought tickets for 10 euros which last all day so you can get on and off at any stop.

On the day we left we were travelling to Innsbruck the manager was very helpful showing us the best route to take on the map and assuring us there would be no snow on route (which there wasnt).

I would certainly stay at this hotel again.
