“Second time around and still love it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We came upon the Hotel Rusall by chance 4 years ago and always promised to return. I cannot understand the previous reviewer. The owner is the friendliest and most helpful person. Same with his wife. They both go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. Unfortunately the weather was a little wet but nothing could be done about that. We still had good days and loved every minute in and out of the rain. Views from the hotel are spectacular and since we were last here they put in a lovely pool which overlooks the lake so you can work on your tan and see the view at the same time. Try to get a room in the main hotel overlooking the lake. We had one of the larger rooms in the new block without a view but this worked for us as we had our daughter with us. Everything is super clean and we'll maintained. Meals are freshly prepared and although not gourmet are very tasty and plentiful.

We had to open a tripadvisor account just to warn others about this hotel. The owner was incredibly rude and unaccommodating. The hotel food was also uneventful and overpriced. Just look around before committing to this place.

Room Tip: There is no A/C. Bring your own fan.

My wife & I spent ten days recently around Lake Como, basing ourselves in well-known Bellagio. On the Sunday we attended an Anglican church service in Cadenabbia, followed by Sunday lunch at the Hotel Rusall, located in the hills above the lake in the hamlet of Rogaro. It involved a walk of over an hour from Cadenabbia, but it was invigorating and well worth the effort for the views along the way and those from the hotel itself.

The best was yet to come, which was the meal itself. We were greeted most enthusiastically by the owners and were then taken outside on the terrace for drinks and yet more views of Lake Como and its surroundings. The dining room was beautifully set up and we immediately felt as though we were experiencing a genuine slice of the real Italy, as it seemed as though all of the other guests were local Italians and many in fair-sized family groups.

Everyone sat down at 1.00 pm and the food began arriving shortly thereafter. The two of us had different pasta dishes for starters, one a local polenta dish, the other lasagne. Then came our main course, both of us having chosen the roast of the day, a slow-cooked veal roast with lots of fresh vegetables. Absolutely fabulous if you will pardon the well-used expression. We would have loved to have carried on, as the desserts on offer were ever so tempting, but we had the walk back to the ferry to catch and didn't wish to test ourselves any further.

Throughout the meal there was lots of laughter and happy noise, as there were many children in attendance. To us, this simply added to the lovely atmosphere that prevailed. It would seem that Hotel Rusall is family-owned and run, and their attention to detail and the like shows that they really do care about their guests and the kind of place they have. After our coffees we sat on the terrace at the back and digested the views as well as the food before setting off back to Hotel Metropole in Bellagio. A wonderful afternoon that we will never forget. Go and experience it for yourselves and see whether you agree - one can always get there by car/taxi if not up to the walk we took.

Room Tip: We only ate Sunday lunch here and did not stay or see any of the rooms.

Lake Como is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and Bellagio is its most attractive spot. Hotel Rusall overlooks Bellagio and it offers stunning views of it.
It is a family owned and run hotel that is very efficiently run with a truly 5 star restaurant offering very good quality and decent variety of food in a smart combination of buffet for starters and set menu with limited choices for main courses. Wine selection is excellent and very attractively priced. The service is impeccable with Franco and his wife Lidia running the show and making all guests very warmly welcome while the brother of Franco performs his wonders in the kitchen.
The outside verandah is really all the money and having your breakfast or a drink there is a daily ritual because the view of the lake and Bellagio is just breathtaking.
The rooms are basic but spotlessly clean, they offer great views with small balconies and are attractively priced. The hotel is really busy during weekends and this means that unless bookings are made in advance it is usually difficult to find a room at the last moment.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake and especially Bellagio.

Our friend recommended Hotel Russal and we loved it. The owners are very attentive and helpful. The room was perfect with a great view and breakfast on the terrace overlooking Lake Como was great. We hiked up and down the mountain to catch the boats. Its had everything we wanted and was a great place to stay. We had dinner there the first night and it was delicious. We saw the owners constantly working and taking care of everything. Being restaurant owners ourselves we know what a tough business it is and we really appreciated their hard work. Thanks to Lidia and Franco for providing a wonderful atmosphere with a feeling of a bed and breakfast! We have to thank our friend Luigi for sending us to you. It made our stay perfect!

Room Tip: Get the Lake View if you can!

My partner and I stayed in this hotel after visiting Como and driving around the lake. The location is wonderful. It has a very family feel to the hotel. The staff were very warm and welcoming. Don't be put off by the slightly dated decor, the rooms are very clean and tidy. We were personally shown to our room with a lake view and WOW it was simply stunning!! There is a tennis court which we used and a lovely pool which also has the most stunning views ever!! The pool room has immaculate toilets and fresh towels. We didn't actually feel the need to drive anywhere else for dinner so dined in the restaurant also looking at the beautiful views. The food was lovely. A buffet salad was fresh and plentiful, followed by beautifully fresh fish. We were very impressed. We had breakfast on the restaurant patio because we just couldn't get enough of the view, and again it was fresh and lovely. If I had to make one criticism of the whole place it was just the lack of air con in the room, but that certainly wouldn't put me off going again! I shall be booking for next year! Many thanks to the lovely warm hosts who made our stay very pleasurable.

After leaving Switzerland a day early as our accommodation was awful, arrived at Lake Como and instantly fell in love, as we were a day early The Rusall was fully booked but the very lovely owner helped us with some local hotels to try. Checked in the following day, the hotel was just lovely, everybody very friendly. The gardens were lovely and the pool area with the lake view behind was just stunning. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side, so never got a dip in the pool. But the lack of sun did not spoil the views i could have sat there all day. Our room was comfortable, nothing fancy but I was happy enough, had a balcony with lakes views, have I said the views were amazing......chuckle. The only downside with the rooms were the thin walls (we had a snorer next door) but hey didn't spoil my stay. The hotel has a bar, the drinks were very strong no British measures there. You could have coffee anytime. Had a meal there one evening, very nice & reasonably priced. All the staff were very nice. Would say you need a car, quite highup, they have a huge underground car park. Loved this place and cannot wait to return.
