“Lovely view but poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2011

It is difficult to spoil a holiday at lake Come due to its fantastic view. However at San Giorgio is the right place to be left unsatisfied: 1) lack of parking lots 2) rooms with carton walls where every step is heard 3) cleaning ladies entering the rooms without knocking 4) poor breakfast and dinner, the waitress makes you a courtesy bringning a cup of coffee 5) quite rude stuff.
Please going to Tremezzo think about your choice of stay twice!

We got used to spend a 3-day's trip in the lake of Como every year and each time we want to try a new place and consequently a new hotel. This was chosen upon the feedback of some guests and it came with a big surprise the bad experience we had in this hotel.
The doors are so thin that it seems to share the same room with your next-door neighbor. There was a lot of rust on the sink and the bath tub. The people at the reception and also those on service during breakfast were very rude and made our staying very uncomfortable. This was the 10th hotel that we stayed in the lake of Como and definitely it is the worst we have been since now. If I can recommend something - don't go there if you want to have a peaceful and romantic time on the beautiful lake. Dave

Room Tip: Try to book another hotel - closer to Cernobbio!

The beauty of the place is completely spoiled by the poor quality of service and the rudeness of the owners (they litterally ripped me off).

Food is merely edible and far below lake of Como's standards... breakfast was pitiful!

Despite the price rooms have no tv and there is no internet connection.

Keep away!!!!

Please don’t be fooled by the old world charm of this hotel. We were fooled, big time. We got married here and can speak for us and the 70+ guests of ours who spent the night at the hotel. We can tell you this:
- Rooms in the dependence are dark, damp and stink a bit
- Rooms with a view on the back are dark and offer a horrible view on a car park and on the main road
- Dinner: portions are tiny and quality is shockingly low (guests were hungry after dinner… ever heard of wedding guests being left hungry?!)
- Breakfast is miserable (spongy bread, cheap butter, a few cakes)
- The gardens are not looked after, seats and sun deck chairs are dirty and cheap
- Staff are rude
- There is only one lift, which looks like it could fall apart any time

The price we paid would have resulted in excellent food, consistently good rooms for all guests, civilized staff and clean facilities had we chosen another hotel!

Last but not least, Management is beyond rigid. Despite the fact that we filled in the hotel they made no effort whatsoever to accommodate any tiny request we made (e.g. check-out time could not be delayed by 15 minutes, our external suppliers could not access the kitchen, …). These are tiny things, but make THE difference when hosting your wedding and looking after 70 precious guests.

Our disappointment with this place is huge. We don’t recommend it to anyone.

We wanted a place away from the crowds, and the San Giorgio was perfect. With a top-level lakeview room, we felt like we were staying in our own private lakefront villa. The views are incredible, the ambiance relaxed and hushed, and the decor charming and romantic. Even the old creaky floors add to the experience. The ferry boards just a few steps from the hotel, and Villa Balbianello is just a 20-minute walk away. We'll definitely be coming back again.

The San Giorgio is a gem on Lake Como. The hotel has been in the family since it was built. Owners Vernonica and brother Andreas welcome you and make you feel as if you are home and are very helpful in planning activities in the area.. And if you are fortunate enough you might also run into their mother and hear her stories about the lake and the area from her perspective. The rooms are spacious with wonderful views of Lake Como. The grounds are lovely with their gardens and chaises to relax and view the lake. The hotel is well situated with a 2 minute walk to the boat servicing Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo and other villages. A wonderful, enchanting place to stay.

The San Giorgio Hotel is a wonderful and relaxing place to stay. Our room looked over the lake with a balcony. The rooms are adequately furnished but don't expect TV's! There is only one and that is downstairs in the library. The buffet breakfast is very good with plenty to eat and lovely coffee. You can eat in the dining room or on the veranda which we did on three mornings. After exploring Lake Como it is lovely to come back to the hotel and lie on the sun beds in the garden listening to the sound of the lake! There are a few places to eat on an evening within a two minute walk from the hotel and there is also a ferry stop just at the end of the garden. We will certainly be returning.
