“Excellent Choice for Lake Como”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2009

My wife and I stayed at La Perla for 5 nights, 3 nights in a double room and 2 nights in a suite. We extended our stay because we enjoyed the hotel, the staff and the location. Breakfasts on the balcony were always a treat with great views over Lake Como to the surrounding hills sides. We ate at local restaurants on 4 occaisions at the suggestion of La Perla staff and we had excellent meals with local flavour.
The double room with a small balcony was quite, spotless and comfortable. The suite had a balcony over looking the lake and pool; in addition, an outside patio gave us a place to read and relax.
A car is necessary at La Perla as it is high on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to any of our friends.
My wife and I travel extensively and found La Perla to be a solid three star hotel. The staff work as hard and are as helpful as any we have seen at any 4 star.

This family run hotel could not have been better. It was spotlessly clean, a great location with wonderful views, the atmosphere was always happy, approachable and relaxed. A very good selection of food was served for breakfast. We started our holiday with a problem and the whole family could not have been more helpful, kind and considerate. They were fantastic. We would thoroughly recommend this excellent hotel

We chose this hotel based on the extremely positive reviews of other travelers. For whatever reason, for one of the first time ever, our take was quite a bit different than it seems others.

I think our biggest problem is that we really wanted more than a 3 star in a small Italian resort town was able to provide. We had planned for 3 nights a the hotel but ended up staying only 1 night. We had reserved a suite for my wife and I and our 3 year old daughter. Our suite was much simpler than we had hoped ... clean (although the heavy scent of amonia always bothers me). The first room had a sofa and a desk (no TV) and then there was a short hallway with a bath of it and the bedroom. The bath was as small as you could imagine with toilet, sink, shower, and bidet. The bedroom was fine and the bed was comfortable. We did have a nice balcony overlooking a pretty pool and of course the lake.

The owners did provide good service and both the snack bar and the breakfast the next morning were tasty.

However, for over $220 Euros per night, we wanted more and decided to cancel the final 2 days to go into Milano before returning to the States. The owners did not waive a cancellation fee for us but we didn't not push too hard.

One final thing - avoid the Rana trattoria that the owners may recommend. Had a very unsatisfying meal at it.

So in short, if you plan to stay at the hotel, be prepared for a great view but a simple hotel. We've traveled in Europe quite a bit and would rate it as a low 3 star.

We find this review very unfair.
First the guests choose our Family suite for 3 nights, the room is 33 mq. (Big enough for 2 adultus + one 3 years old children), the child sleep in one double bed alone. About the TV , the guest write that there is no TV in the room, MAYBE he didn't see the FLAT TV thah we have in all our rooms with SKY TV (more than 500 channels for free + pay TV).
The Guest booked 3 night and they arrived the 04th of june by our hotel at 12.00 AM , at 21.00 PM the guest decide to cancel the last 2 nights (5th and 6th) because they want just to go to MILAN. Our Cancellation police is very fair (1 night will be charge if you cancel in the 2 days before).
The problem was that the guest informed Us at 21.00 PM to cancel the day after and we don't have any time to RESELL the room , we asking Why They don't have informed Us when they arrived? normally we find a solution, because We do everithigs possible to satisfy our custumer.
I think also that our reviews on tripadvisor says what our costumer really find by our hotel

A group of 6 of us stayed at this wonderful hotel for 6 nights.
Although a little difficult to find, the welcome was friendly and the rooms were very clean with attractive terraces overlooking the lake.
Breakfast was excellent and can be taken on the main terrace or in the dining room.
The hotel does not serve dinner but we used the Rana restaurant which is just 200 metres away.
The hotel owners are always on hand and it is their skill that makes the stay so wonderful. Their secret is that the hotel is extremely well managed, yet the staff always have time to be friendly and helpful.

Last year, we stayed at Hotel La Perla in Tremezzo which was just.wonderful. Because La Perla only do light meals in the evening, really for late arriving guests, they suggested that we try Pizzeria Balognett a few minutes down the hill from the hotel.

Normally when we visit an area, we try to visit different restaurants but after our first visit here, we came every day.

We were personally looked after by husband and wife Melo and Franca who own the restaurant and nothing was too much trouble. The food was freshly prepared and excellent, and although 'Pizzeria' is part of the restaurants title, they do have many other options including specials. Would we go there again - definately. Highly recommended.

Hotel la Perla is family owned and operated, and is a true gem on the hillside of Mt. Tremezzo. But like most gemstones, it is a bit of work to find and get to the location. Our Fiat Panda was up to the task, and thanks to our daughter we had a GPS with a map of the area that led us to the Hotel. It was not easy to find even with a GPS. But once there, we were warmly greeted by the owners, enjoyed the view of the southern portion of Lake Como and the surrounding neighbohood from our own balcony and felt very much at ease in this wonderfully clean hotel. It is more of a villa than a hotel, more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The continental breakfast was first class each of the three days. The hillside main balcony afforded a wonderful view of Lake Como, Belagio, the town of Tremezzo and the Swiss/italian Alps. Tremezzo is in a central location for visiting both sides of the lake by boat/ferry, or taking a drive through the pass to Switzerland, and the famous Villa Caroltta on Lake Como in Tremezzo and its grounds are worth the time to visit. We were lucky to find this gem on our first visit to this area. Take a morning stroll from the villa directly above the hotel is a very small village, Trementio as i recall, that has a very old hillside pathway, walled on one side and open to the ravine below. You get to view Italian farms, village living as it has been for hundreds of years. The pathway is easily 18th century handiwork, maybe earlier. A delightful morning stroll.

The service here is amazing - exceptionally friendly staff. It is a lovely little hotel, nice pool, very modern rooms, great views. The only downside is that it is a 20 minute walk uphill from Tremezzo, but that is a very minor aspect when you take the great service into account.

Well worth a visit.
