My wife and I came to the area for a friends wedding, we stayed 4 nights. We had a nice time. It is a relaxing, quiet place. Staff were accommodating and friendly (volunteering useful information on things like passenger ferry pick up points and free maps on area when we enquired etc).
Our room was near the pool and a 1 min walk from main building where breakfast is served etc. Room was very large, well appointed with a big bathroom, quality furniture and fittings etc but did not have aircon (some do, some don't so if your going at height of summer / you simply want a room with aircon enquire at booking). Room did have fan though which was good to keep the air moving.
It is a relaxing, family run place, so if you want the Hilton/Holiday Inn experience where every room is the same (which one might for business) this place might not be for you. If you want somewhere a short walk from the water front but far enough for some peace and quiet and to relax in the pool overlooking the hills you will love it.
Ferries are much closer than google maps shows too (as only car ferries are on google maps). The foot passenger ferry stops much closer - about 10 mins from hotel.
The pool is really nice, with loungers placed around it (not too close).
Staff speak good English (not all but there is usually someone around who does)
Breakfast is cereals, yoghurts, , cheese, ham, boiled eggs and pastries with tea & coffee etc. They also do simple but nice food at other times (pizzas, salads etc). They also have bar which is reasonably priced. Its a quiet place so they like to keep noise levels low after 9-10ish.
Parking is plentiful and free at the hotel and you can easily walk into town from the hotel to find restaurants (note in the tourist season parking on the front is hard to find / near impossible).
The hotel is up a hill (anywhere not on the road will be) which we had no issue with but if your not good with hills keep this in mind.
There is no gym (not that this bothered us, as there are plenty of quiet roads to run on plus the hotel has a pool and you you can swim in the lake).
Hotel does have (free) internet
Take your swimming trunks (nice pool + you have the lake)
Take your tennis racket (has a court which was unused all the time we were there)
There is a really nice restaurant with a wood pizza oven etc a 5 minute walk out the back of the hotel (ask the hotel for directions).
Get the 15Euro day trip ticket for the boat we went to Bellagio and Varrenna etc and it makes hopping on and off boats easy and cheap.
Visit the gardens at the Villa Carlotta (lovely shaded gardens)
Ask hotel reception for the boat times and foot passenger terminals (no need to trek to Cadenabbria)
Not all rooms have aircon, if this is something you require confirm before booking (some rooms have...
