“Peaceful and With Fantastic Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

My friend and I stayed for two weeks in Hotel Terrazze and it was unquestionably a good decision to select this hotel away from the mainstream locations.
Firstly, Conca dei Marino is about 4 kilometres from Amalfi and about 12 kilometres to Positano. You will learn to master the bus system which is out of control...there are far too many people packing the buses and at times the driver will not stop to pick you up...but we worked out when to travel and lived with the inconveniences...because the hotel and the location are worth it.
The hotel is situated down the slope from the street and there is some parking at the level where you enter the hotel. The reception is another level below and this is accessed via stairs or lift. There are large rooms on the fourth level below the reception but we were perfectly comfortable in the smaller more basic room on the level immediately below the reception. the fact that this is probably the only place away from the reception that received the free wifi had a bearing on this choice. All or at least the majority of rooms have spectacular views...simply stunning. The reception has a large terrace for communal use and this area is tragically wasted with a few basic tables and chairs...nothing which encourages anyone to lounge and enjoy a drink in comfort. At the same level is the breakfast area and this is quite adequate for an extended continental breakfast. There was fruit, cereal etc available every day and the service here was very good. Other commentaries noted the demeanour of the proprietor or the young lady who shared the reception role. Personally we found the proprietor Marcello always helpful and polite...he is multilingual too. He was very communicative in the booking process, he made travel bookings, organised taxis and booked restaurants for us. Speaking of restaurants, Le Bonta del Capo is a gem...the family are just family and made us feel part of them, the food was excellent (try the fresh lobster pasta) and very reasonably priced...we happily ate here most nights...and they pick you up and deliver you back to the hotel. There are other choices of restaurants including the three in the little fishing below the hotel...about 200 steps below. The mussels there were the best I have experienced...although these restaurants belonging to the fishing families seem to only be open at the whim of the owners...but they were good when they did open. Our transport was Sorrento Cars (Ugo) cars and he is very reliable and very reasonably priced. The actual fishing village of Conca dei Marini is a pick up point for points to Capris. In conclusion, this is a fantastic choice for a reasonably priced and exceptionally good value holiday....I would not hesitate to return to this lovely location or Hotel Le Terrazze.

A fabulous hotel with breathtaking views of the sea. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff who speak excellent English. They are happy to give to information on places to visit, eat and will help you book excursions. Very clean rooms with good facilities. Safe deposit box in the room which was useful. Room cleaned daily. Flat screen TV with BBc world news. Great access down a little path to a lovely intimate beach with 3 restaurants. Breakfast was lovely, lots of choice and very fresh. Served 7.30 to 10.30 am. Would recommend!

Room Tip: Ask for a front or side sea view.

I whole-heartedly agree with SAjulio that this is about as good as it gets on the Amalfi Coast. Not a huge resort, it is rather a charming small-ish hotel, with four floors of about 5-10 rooms each, all of them of good size, with balcony, and some with sea view (those with sea view are a bit smaller than those without, so everyone wins), parking is available (and free!), the staff is amazing and very knowledgable and eager to help with everything you need, there's bus nearby, a great beach with good restaurants (though there is a 209-step series of stairs leading down there, so you'll have earned your dessert), the beach offers good swimming and snorkeling, and rentals of sunbeds and umbrellas. Breakfast buffet is about the best I've had in Italy. This is "only" a three-star hotel, but in many respects, it outperforms both four and five star hotels I've stayed in around the world.

Room Tip: The side rooms have a side view of the sea, but are larger and cooler in the summer. The ones with a...

I returned to this hotel after 24 years. It has a great non-touristy location with an easy access to the Amalfi Coast and convenient parking on-site. The beach below and the town above have great places to eat. A bus stop is just steps away and many restaurants provided shuttle service.
The staff is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. It was a great place to wake up and go to sleep with the amazing views from the balcony. When I return to the Amalfi Coast, hopefully sooner than in 24 years, I will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the direct sea view. Ask for a terrace room if choosing to sunbathe at the hotel...

This smallish hotel gives very personalized service and is situated right on the rocky coast with great views from the rooms and their balconies – nothing like the sound of the sea at night to give a fine night’s rest. The town of Conca dei Marini is situated in a very hilly area and there are many steps (if you are walking) down to the hotel area. Local restaurants will provide car shuttles for you to dine and the hotel will phone them to pick you up for meals. They provide an onsite breakfast service that was very pleasant. Wi-Fi can be a bit erratic like in many parts of Italy. The rooms are adequate and very clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom quite satisfactory. The hotel, as the floors are tiled, can be a bit noisy and you can hear other guests moving around with suitcases etc. due to the hard floors. Unfortunately (again like most hotels in Italy) tea and coffee making facilities are lacking and it is not that easy, given the geography of this area, to pop next door to the local café for a coffee. The staff are helpful and our stay was very pleasant, certainly would recommend a stay at the Hotel La Terrazze if you were planning a trip to Conca dei Marini.

Room Tip: Grab a room overlooking the sea - great views and sounds of the waves.

This hotel has some good features, principally its location, but clearly shows a lack of care by the owners. Breakfast was the worst we had in 2 weeks in Italy. The common areas were poorly furnished and uncomfortable. Service was indifferent to surly. Too Bad.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We just came back from our holiday (Rome, then Sorrento, followed by a stay here on the Amalfi coast). This was a lovely and relaxing end to our holiday.

The location was good, as being 20 mins bus ride from Positano, and 10 mins from Amalfi, the prices were a LOT cheaper for food / drink here in Conca Dei Marini than in the two closest, more touristy towns. We printed out the Sita bus timetable before we left England, and found the busses very easy to use (although the Sita bus from Amalfi gets extremely crowded mid afternoon and we realised in order to get on one, we had to queue for about 20 mins, otherwise they become too crowded. The Sita busses were extremely easy (and pleasantly there were loads of spare seats when we caught it to get to Sorrento to catch our flight from Naples. (7.30am).

We recommend going to the Pizzeria in Conca's town up the hill (don't worry - they pick you up from the hotel - and take you back again afterwards). I forget the name, but underneath the name in the advert it said 'old flavours'. Something like Bacchus(?). They were so polite - the most friendly and polite service. A real family run little restaurant, with everything authentic and homemade - including lovely limoncello.

The fact that the hotel had no restaurant wasn't a problem - I always find hotel restaurants tend to cater more for tourists anyway, and serve virtually no food in the style the locals would enjoy - and I think the nice thing about going away is to try local foods. We had a choice of several beachside restaurants - we tried the one immediately to your left as you enter the beach - and it was lovely. We also got up the 6-700 stairs from the hotel to the main part of Conca several times and had a well earned ice cold beer in the small restaurants looking out to sea (in the old town everything shuts down from 2.30pm - 5.30pm every day, but the beachside restaurants are open all day).

The hotel served a very nice breakfast and they were very accommodating when we needed to catch our bus earlier then breakfast was normally served.

A few people have commented on the owner being rude, but his English wasn't as good as the other staff (and in fairness to him, he is making the effort to speak other languages to guests in his own country, when we in England make very little or no effort whatsoever to speak another language to foreign guests in England), and I think it's difficult if you're speaking a foreign language to know quite how you come across. He was a little 'sharp' at times, but he was always helpful. The younger girl, whose English was very good, was very polite and friendly.

The only people I wouldn't recommend this hotel for are those who do not like walking about much or with mobility problems, as the only way to the beach is via 200 stairs from the hotel. There's no road to the beach so you can't drive down there even if you bring a car. This was quite nice for us. it was a pleasant walk (5 mins) with spectacular views. and means the beach is quieter than those with road access.

Its 6-700 steps to the main town where there's a small, very cheap shop - (wine 1.50-2 Euros a bottle) and a few restaurants (about 2-3 family run ones the locals all seem to enjoy - a very good sign). If you want to post any postcards from Conca, the postbox is also up there.

Our room was the biggest in the hotel (room 407) as we were upgraded when we arrived. We had the largest room and the largest balcony. The views of the Amalfi Coast (we could see the town of Amalfi in the distance) were amazing. It was spacious and very clean. There were a few 'wear and tear' chips in the corners of some of the walls (not a problem but worth mentioning). The air-con didn't seem to work (again not a problem, as despite the high temperatures, the room stayed fairly cool. It was fairly basic - but this hotel is very good value for money compared to others on the Amalfi coast. If you don't fancy walking to the town to buy the very cheap wine for a night in, or to drink on your balcony, the hotel provide it chilled (with nibbles) for 10 Euros a bottle - not too bad for a hotel actually.

We were pleasantly surprised the internet was free from the reception area and they were happy for us to use the printer (also free) to print our boarding passes.

Sleeping was very easy due to the Memory Foam mattress topper.

We were actually extremely pleased with this hotel, but I have tried to provide a balanced and honest review, rather than just pointing out that we loved everything - even though we did.

Go to Conca and experience the real Italian Amalfi coast, away from the tourists... (Amalfi and Positano are definitely worth a visit though). Conca has a small number of absolutely lovely family run restaurants which are so reasonable. If we were going back to this area, we would definitely choose Amalfi, and this hotel would be the first place we'd try and book a room.

Room Tip: Book the more expensive rooms with the large balcony's - you'll be sitting out there quite a...
