We absolutely loved our stay at La Scogliera! It is a small B&B run by Pino and his wife, Pina. The room was beautiful, clean & very comfortable with absolutely amazing views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The bathroom was clean and big, and even had a wonderful view of the sea from the shower! Our room had many amenities, such as a private safe, in-room refrigerator, comfortable bed, extra blankets and pillows, and plenty of hanging/storage space. The views out of the 2 balconies/windows were nothing short of spectacular. Watching the sun rise over the sea, while laying in bed the first morning, I knew we had found the perfect spot to get away and relax. Watching the sun set from the outdoor seating area/balcony, while sipping complimentary champagne that same night, confirmed it.
Pino and Pina were the perfect hosts and are among the nicest people we've ever met. They went above and beyond to make sure we were having a wonderful vacation. They are extremely knowledgeable & helpful and took the time to make sure we knew where we were going and offered tips on things to do and see. Pino answered all of our questions by email, long before we ever showed up, including sending us train and bus information on how to get to La Scogliera. The breakfasts were great and were a perfect way to start our days. We were asked every evening what time we wanted breakfast, and like clockwork, warm croissants, fresh juice, yogurt, and coffee (the best coffee I had in all of Italy!) were waiting for us at our requested time.
The location is perfect. Atrani is a short 10-minute walk to the busy town of Amalfi - but is worlds away. Atrani is a sleepy little town, where the locals out number the tourists by at least 100 to 1 (not so in Amalfi!). It was truly magical to spend our evenings in town, when the people congregate at the Pizza to socialize and where the kids all come out to play. There are several restaurants with excellent food and the beach provides a nice way to spend a lazy afternoon.
If you have a choice between bus and boat, I'd highly recommend taking the 35-minute boat ride from Salerno to Amalfi and making the short walk to La Scogleria from Amalfi. The bus ride, while beautiful, was the least favorite part of the trip. The buses are usually full (standing room only), the road is extremely narrow & twisting, and the 14-mile trip takes an hour and 15 minutes. Thank you Pino & Pina for a wonderful stay!
