“Recent holiday in Rhodes.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2014

Returned home from the Kolymbia Star Hotel in Rhodes last week. I went open minded after reading some recent reviews and think the best way to describe the holiday and hotel in Positive and Negative comments.
First the positive: Exceptionally clean hotel, beds changed 12 days out of 14. Pools and reception area immaculate and the gardens are lovely with flowers and bushes. Obviously the weather was excellent.
Now the negatives: The hotel is a good half hours walk to any form of life except for a small supermarket or two and a taverna closer by. There was no entertainment in the hotel because it was nearly out of season - 2nd week in October. After my wife complained the management arranged a Greek evening towards the end of the holiday but we had arranged to go out on a coach trip! The food was luke warm most of the time and repetitive.
Conclusion: If you want a holiday that you can relax and 'chill out' this would be good but if you want to enjoy other things you need to hire a car to get around. The buses are ok but we did have to stand to go to Rhodes town one day. The swimming both in the sea and pool is great.
The restaurant Manager was very nice and seemed to care but the staff were generally biased towards the German guests to the point of neglecting to cleas plates from our table at the end of courses.

Room Tip: Pick a room near the childrens slide area. The back of the hotel was near trees and the mosquitos we...

The hotel is quite big, has several buildings, several pools. Due to this there was no feeling that you're packed - there was enough place for everyone. We had a room close to the back entrance where there was a bus stop (timetables to every possible way were put on the board), supermarket (worked till 11 p.m.) and quite straight way to the beach (approx. 300 m). The room had a great view to the mountains. The room itself was quite spacey, had a TV, fridge, balcony. It was cleaned every day, towels were changed every day too (though the towels were washed, I'd believe, but from the age of them they looked like dirty white).
Food was great during dinners. The choice was amazing and everything was delicious. But this was opposite to breakfast - the choice was enough wide, but the food and especially coffee was terrible.
There was a program every night, but we didn't get a chance to go there.
The beach was nice, close to the mountains which gives kind of coziness. There were sunbeds and umbrellas possible (8 EUR/2 pers.), but it was completely possible (unless the sun) to lie down on the towel in the beach. The sea was also great, cannot complain at all. The was a bar in the beach (some kind of food, beverages).
It was possible to rent a car in the hotel (though there are several spots in the town for renting cars). About 1 km away from the hotel it was possible to rent a bike, scooter or quad (40 EUR/day - no special driving license required).
The only disadvantage was that it was far away from the town centre (though I don't know if it is possible to call that place as a centre). The town is quite small, not so many activities to do. If you need bars/clubs/crowded places, you should choose Rhodes, but as I've heard beaches are not the strongest part of the capital.

Whole experience was great. Had a holliday in October 2014 with my mom and 8 months old baby. We had everything we needed in the room, was very clean and stuff was very polite and helpful. The food was osom! We just loved it. So much to choose and so much sweets. We did not had lunch included, but we could always go to the Pool restaurant and order anything we want. The prices was affordable.

First impressions were good , friendly greeting and quick check in. Problem with room soon sorted . Room was spotless and maid service excellent. All three pool areas were great . Now the food , I am sure some people who have commented on this food being excellent must have stayed at a different hotel. A good selection of salad and fruit at both breakfast and evening meal. The hot food was never at an acceptable temperature and meat was very over cooked. No drinks were included in the evening meal, not even water, which could prove very expensive for families. A bottle of water being 1euro 50 cents, three times the supermarket price. The hotel was fairly remote but the beach was nearby. It was about half an hour to the main shops/tavernas which was okay this time of year when the weather was not too hot. There was no entertainment, we were informed that it ended at the end of September. After a complaint by a fellow guest a Greek evening was arranged as a one off. This seemed to go down well with the hotel guests that attended. All in all this was booked a week before we don't away and was still value for money. Although I would not return the hotel staff were all friendly and the atmosphere good as all nationalities seemed to 'get on'

Room Tip: 743 overlooks the water slide pool and was a very nice room. The balcony overlooked a road but it wa...

First impressions do count and Kolymbia Star did not disappoint! We arrived late but had a warm friendly welcome. We immediately felt comfortable although tired. The staff had prepared a couple of sandwiches for us and a bottle of water, this was appreciated. The room was really lovely and clean and the bed was a relaxing relief after our journey. If wanting a safe clean and comfortable family retreat then look no further.I only gave it 4* as the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room is what I would class as a necessity! We were on an all inclusive deal and as much as I loved all the meals at times I felt I was eating for the sake of eating, so going half board may be better. The evening entertainment although amateurish was pleasant. The entertainment staff intermingled with the guest which helped to make it all feel like a large extended family.

Room Tip: The room we had was perfect although close to the pool was right at the end and had great access to...

Whole experience superb. All Staff especially Manolis and Elli very friendly and efficient. Rooms kept very clean, bonus having a fridge in room. Arrived late at night and sandwiches and oranges left in fridge for us. There was no shower hanger, but after informing the receptionist one was fitted the same day. No complaints about hotel or staff. Had a great two week holiday at a lovely hotel.

the hotel was very nice, very clean. The apartment was fairly basic but clean only moan I had was the bath was very tiny and had no plug, the shower head was in the wrong position on the wall. The staff were very nice and friendly, special thanks must go to the restaurant staff especially Manolis and Elli nothing was to much trouble for them.My one main moan is,we were all inclusive but this finishes at 11o,clock and then you have to pay for drinks etc.restaurant food was very good, many choices both continental and british. For me the only downside of the holiday was the Russians, they are the most bad mannered people I have ever come across.I would,nt holiday in Rhodes ever again the island has a fantastic history but it is one of the dirtiest places I have ever visited are there no street cleaners over there.

Room Tip: higher rooms have the better views
