We went to Mikri Poli as a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 boys aged 11,8 and 6) in June 2012. We all felt it was the best holiday we've ever had.
From the moment we arrived the service was outstanding. Even though we arrived at midnight we were quickly shown to our room, then offered drinks at the bar even though it was after 11pm (All inclusive finishes at this time)
The hotel was spotless, our room was cleaned 6 days a week, by a very friendly maid. We had a superior family room, which consisted of a living area with 3 single beds, (usually only has 2 but as we had 3 children they fitted an extra bed) This made the living area a tiny bit squeezed, but as we werent in the room very long it didnt bother us. The bedroom was huge, it had 2 single beds pushed together with a balcony overlooking the sea.
The food was mainly served in the Laurels Restaurant. Breakfast is served from 7:30-10:30. The choice was unbelievable. Every morning we could choose from a selection of fruits, yogurts, breads, cereals, meats, cheeses, full english, pancakes (made fresh whilst we watched). Lunch is served from 12.30-2.30pm and was a selection from meats, salads, vegetarian, with a choice of desserts. Dinner, served from 7.30-9.30 was always a different selection from lunch. Some nights being, Medetaranian or Greek. Even though we were here for 2 weeks there was always a different selection, which we never got bored of. The restaurant staff were very helpful and efficient. It was my sons birthday whilst we were there, and when we arrived for lunch, a table had been put aside for us, with a birthday banner and decorations. A birthday cake was also given to him (we had arranged this previously at reception at a cost of 10 euros). There was also a Poolside Restaurant where you could get a quick lunch if you prefered. There was always spaghetti bolognese, pizza, salad, cheese, meat and rolls every day from 12pm if you didnt want to go back to The Laurels. There was a BBQ night here 3 nights a week which you could book a place at with reception. There was no limit to the amount of times you ate here either. The food here was lovely. They has Gyros and grilled fish, meat and veg with Salads. I would recommend this as a change from the Laurels restaurant.
Kolymbia is a small resort. The main resort centre being a 5-10 minute walk away. There was a variety of shops, bars, restaurants. But as the resort is mainly all inclusive hotels i wonder how much of these are used. Kolymbia beaches are shingle which again didnt bother us as our children prefered the pool. Mikri Poli has it's own beach, with sunbeds, beach volley and a hut with all inclusive drinks.
There is a bus stop immediatley outside the hotel with regular buses taking you to Rhodes Town, Lindos and a wonderful sandy beach call Tsambika. This beach really is a must to visit. It has no hotels just a few beach restaurants, the water is warm and crytal clear and the sand is soft. A great beach for anyone.
There was a mixture of nationalities here. We thought after reading other reviews it would be mainly German but we met people from all over Europe...Swedan,Italy,Russian,Ukraine, Norway as well a a few other English. English is the main language used at Mikri Poli but from what I could see all the staff could speak a number of Languages.
Right...I am saving the best til last....THE ANIMATION TEAM... AMAZING!!!
When we were there there were 5 in the animation team. Lucas,Oskar,Vadim,Agata and Anna. I think more were due to join (Thomas Cook employees though rather than the hotels own) as the hotel was beginning to get busy as we were leaving.
We were kept entertained just about all day. There was something for everyone. Exercising, table tennis, archery, water polo, darts, football, tennis. There were different activities for adults and children at different times. My boys loved every minute and wanted to join in with everything but you really weren't hassled if you prefered just to be left alone.
The team put on a show most evenings themselves, either a variety show, talent contest, comedy but I must say how funny and entertaining it was. Everyone joined in and enjoyed themselves. I havent been to a hotel before where the evening entertainment has been so much fun. Oskar was brilliant, he spent so much time with my boys and made them feel so special.
We would definatley go back to this hotel and would recommend it highly to anyone, not just families. My boys are already wanting to go back next year (if not before!!!)
