Our party of 7 (two families: three adults and four teens) spent six days at the Sun Beach complex in early June. Overall it's a nice place and a good base for exploring Rhodes.
Check-in was no issue, despite the fact that we arrived very late at night. Unfortunately, that meant we didn't see the warnings about not leaving windows open at night. Our unit was quite stuffy inside, so we opened the windows and the door to the hall to get some air moving. That took care of the stuffiness, but it also let in 47 gazillion mosquitoes, all of which congregated in my daughter's room and ate her alive. She had more mosquito bites than I would have thought possible.
After having the place sprayed twice, her room finally became livable on the last night. Until then she slept in the living room on the couch, which was comfortable enough but meant we woke her up every morning as we made coffee etc.
We didn't use many of the facility's amenities -- pretty much just the pool. We did eat breakfast twice in the restaurant. The "slimline breakfast" at 6.90 euros per person was a pretty good deal: an omelet (which they would make with egg white only), fresh fruit, toast, coffee, and the amazing local yogurt with honey.
The front desk personnel were very pleasant and accommodating (we found this to be true wherever we went in Greece), sending faxes for us and generally providing assistance with whatever we needed.
I had read the complaints about airplane noise, and it's true we heard the occasional airplane on approach to RHO, but it wasn't a big deal. Put the A/C on at night and close the windows, and you won't hear it unless you're used to the dead quiet of a rural area.
The first night, when we arrived around midnight, we were hungry but nothing was open. We stopped at the nearby Cafe Hellas, where the proprietor greeted us cordially, regretfully informed us that his kitchen was closed, but sent us next door to Cavo Tango. It's not authentic Greek, but at that point we didn't care; all we wanted was food, and we got it. We went back to Cafe Hellas on another night and had an excellent dinner, enlivened by the proprietor's hijinks.
We also found that the Manhattan Cafe (maybe Manhattan Bar), on the street that leads out to the main road, serves a very good breakfast. I had an English breakfast there that was as good as any I've had in the U.K. -- and with real fresh orange juice. Highly recommended if you want an English breakfast one day.
Overall we were pleased with the Sun Beach complex and would go back, though I think my daughter might be a little hesitant because of the hordes of mosquitoes.
