“A great holiday, made even better by nine days of sunshine!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We stayed at the Ialyssos Bay hotel for 10 days in early October 2012 and we had a thoroughly enjoyable break.
When we read reviews of hotels on sites such as Trip Advisor, the comment which we take little notice of is food quality, unless all reviewers agree that it leaves a lot to be desired. Food is a matter of individual preference. We love to sample local dishes, many of which were available at this hotel. We found the food here to be good quality hotel fare. In this hotel, breakfasts had a selection of three cereals or porridge oats, bread rolls and loaves and toast-making facilities. The cold breakfast buffet had salad vegetables, cold meats and a selection of local dishes, while the hot buffet had cheese-topped grilled tomatoes, potato dishes, sausage, boiled and scrambled eggs with either poached or fried eggs or omelette as an alternative. Bacon was available on some days too as was a mixture of fried onion and peppers and "eggy bread". A selection of cold sweet dishes was available, together with croissants, apple and date pastries, chocolate or Madeira cake and two different yoghurts. Lunch and dinner menus had soup (different in the evenings), breads and rolls. the salad bar was well-stocked with an assortment of local salads as well as sliced tomatoes and cucumber and cold meats and cheese. Hot meals were varied, with a selection of meat dishes, vegetable pies, pasta dishes, hot potato dishes and chips on occasions. Local hot sauces were offered and were very tasty. A selection of sweets and ice creams was available at both meals and fresh fruit at all three. We thanked the chef and were very satisfied with the food. These are the same dishes which were found to be dull and uninteresting to other reviewers. It is down to personal preference and it is never possible to satisfy all of the people all of the time. The selection seemed to us to be sufficient for anyone to find courses which suited them.
The snack bar offered salad baguettes on most days. Chicken portions, pizza slices, cooked pie slices. fish fingers or burgers or hot dogs were offered at various times, together with other hot and cold dishes, all of which we enjoyed. Cakes and pastries were available in the afternoons.
We booked through First Choice who now only offer an all inclusive menu. It is made clear that local wines and beer are included, together with non-branded spirits and soft drinks and tea and coffe and a range of four cocktails. Branded drinks are also offered but these must be paid for.
Our room was clean and the linen was replaced each day. Air conditioning made the high October temperatures manageable at nights. Unusually, the room was carpeted and this had been cleaned before we occupied the room and vacuumed during our stay but It showed some stains, perhaps to be expected at the end of the season. The bathroom was kept very clean by the maids. TV is dreadful, only two English Language news channels, neither of which covered much British news.
The public areas were kept clean but the standard of the furniture was not always good, with frayed leather/vinyl coverings on some of the chairs and settees.
The staff are brilliant, polite, helpful and pleasant at all times. The reataurant manager, Julia, was especially helpful and made us feel welcome always. Reception and shop staff were also friendly and helpful, as was Arthur, who ran the poolside bar and snack bar,
This is probably a good three star hotel and matches up to some of the four star accommodation we have stayed at in the past. Because we stayed here at the end of the season the entertainment had ceased, for which I was grateful since I have found that in many hotels it is usually second-rate and always far too loud.
Beware the Aegean Blue people in the resort and in Rhodes. They claim not to be time-share but they seem to be exactly that. After sitting through an hour of their patter we said "no thanks" and left.
As with most hotels, the "No towels on sunbeds" rule was stated but was not enforced.

We stayed at this hotel between 6th october and 13th. We flew from manchester only to discover our airline had gone bust, bit of a shock but at least Olympic had arranged an alternative. It was a good sized plane with loads of legroom, ideal for the other half as he's usually got to sit with his knees under his chin!!! Very smooth flight, quickly got through customs and baggage. Transfer was 15 mins. Checked into the hotel very quickly, lovely girl on reception with very good english. We had a 3rd floor room with a pool view. Room was fine, good size although they did cheat a wee bit and pushed 2 single beds together but who cares! Room was basic as was the bathroom but functional and let's face it,do you go on holiday to spend all day in the bathroom?? Cleaning on the other hand could have been better, maybe I am being fussy here but the towels got changed every day and the bed was always re-made. Must be the first place I have been to and not left a tip for the maid but we never had anything stolen.
Food wise unless you are the most fussy person on this planet you will find something to eat. There was always a good choice of salads, breads, meat, fish, pastas and vegetables. Kiddies may struggle but apparently a quick word to chef and he would get them something else, you don't get that everywhere! Only thing I would say about the food was I could've done with it a bit hotter, but that's just me. We never expereinced any stomach problems. The food was better here than we had at a '5'star hotel in turkey this year. Yes it gets repetative, but the chefs are creating meals for so many people from different countries on such small budgets that they can only do so much with. Some moaners want to realise this. And Julia always greeted you with a smile and always had a couple of minutes to chat to EVERYBODY,which was really nice as again some of the bigger hotels don't do this.
We had a minor problem with our door which was rectified very quickly and efficiently.
Pool area was nice,no problem getting a sunbed but then it's october and the hotel was pretty quiet. Could be different story in the summer. Sunbeds are the basic white plastic ones and there are mattresses, very thin. But then this isn't a 'luxury' hotel and you have to remember that. If you want your luxury loungers got to a luxury hotel and don't moan about these ones! Beach is a bit rubbish, very stony. You need shoes to walk across it.
Alcohol in the hotel was ok,I'm not a big drinker but other half found the beer to be ok. As it is everywhere it is watered down and spirits are domestic brand. You can't complain. Hotels water down beer etc to keep costs down and for your own safety i think. Last thing they want is people fighting with each other,or falling off balconies etc when they've had a skinfull!
The entertainment team finish at the end of september which i think is a mistake. No matter how bad they are,at least you have the option of watching shows or not. Anyway because there was no entertainment this led to very long, quiet nights either sitting in your room or sitting in the bar area watching about 20 games of cards being played. We went out most nights after dinner. The town itself is only about a 5 minute walk away. Not much going on here either, the usual bars and tourist shops for souvenirs but it broke the monotony.
Aircraft. What can I say? Yes you hear them going overhead,is it a problem? No. Once the first half dozen have gone over you get used to it. And you are on an island,15 minute from the airport so honestly what do you expect?! Does it affect sleep at night? No. I think the lates we heard them was 10.30pm. Do they wake you in the morning? No. For the few seconds it takes them to go over it disturbs you in no way at all!!
Getting back to the pool area, somebody else on here had commneted that there was only one pooll not 2 as stated in the brochure. There are 2,there is the main pool and there is the seperate kiddies pool. Now when I learnt to count that made 2 pools! Again it's not a luxury hotel, you don't have your main pool, kids only pool and 'quiet, relaxing adult only pool'.If you want that go elsewhere!
Dean, the Olyimpic rep was really nice. Very helpful and approachable. We've been to certain places where the reps are all over you until the get your money out of you and then they don't want to know. We'd never used Olympic before but we would consider them again. And I think they are right with their rating of this hotel,3+. With a few tweeks here and there it could well be a 4*.
Would we go back to this hotel? Yes we would,it was a very good hotel. Very good, friendly, helpful staff and a beautiful island.

We booked a week's all inclusive package for myself, my wife and our 19 yo daughter through A1travel via the web. Flights were with Thomas Cook which was ok just short on legroom and transfers with A2btransfers which were good. We booked 2 rooms and were given adjoining rooms with a shared balcony which worked well, there was no supplement for single occupancy of the second room. The rooms were both spotlessly clean and maintained to a good standard. Meals were self-service and offered a good variety of dishes which changed every day. The pool area was nice and the snack bar next to it served drinks all day and food a various times. The staff were all friendly and were always happy to offer assistance. All in all a very good break and we would all use this hotel again.

Me and my Boyfriend have just returned from 2 weeks at the Ialyssos Bay and had an amazing Holiday! The Hotel was gorgeous, extremely clean and the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The room had a gorgeous sea view, was very spacious and was cleaned daily with fresh linen and towels being replaced ever morning. The food was fantastic with a large choice of quality dishes to suit everyones tastes. We had entertainment for the first few days which got everyone involved and provided lots of laughs! There's Mini Golf, Tennis, Table tennis, Pool, Air Hockey, Computers and other activities to keep you entertained during the day. The Beach is about a minute away and although it is a pebble beach it is nice and relaxing especially at night when the sunsets are to die for! This hotel is definitely value for money and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, chilled out Holiday. There's also a fab little restaurant down the road called Semi's thats lovely if you do want to get out!

Room Tip: Apparently the bungalows are quieter but then you miss out on the Sea views!

I went with family to the Ialyssos bay hotel 19th - 26th September. Overall, we were slightly disappointed with the hotel.
I am 16, and have been to loads of different countries across the world, and have experienced different cultures. I wouldn't normally write on something like this but i was disappointed at the hotel.

FOOD - The food was very repetitive and poor. You knew what was going to be there every day and the quality of the food was shocking. The only good thing was the soup. The meat was very tough and the basic food like pasta, potatoes etc. were very poor. Some of the food was left out from lunch to evening meal and was sometimes cold. There was only a small section of food to select from, and with their only being one restaurant, the choice was limited. On a morning, as well as cereal, the best you could get was beans, toast and a small hot dog, if you were lucky you got an egg, but usually they weren't there. If you had diabetes, a diet etc. you would struggle to eat. Actually, we all lost weight at the hotel whilst we where there, so if you are on a diet, I would recommend the hotel!
There was a snack bar open a couple of hours a day, which had better food than the restaurant. I am defiantly not a picky eater, as I like to try foods from different cultures, but this was by far the worst food I have ever encountered in a hotel.

STAFF - The staff in the hotel where always polite to you and would do what they could to help you and improve your holiday. The staff in the restaurant where polite and looked after you. The bar staff where always very polite. The woman who was at the entrance to the restaurant was always nice and polite. The reception staff always did what they could for you. Our rooms where cleaned well by the cleaners.
However, our opinion has changed on the room cleaners, as on the last day of our holiday some of our jewellery (including a very expensive necklace) and other items went missing. We couldn’t do anything about it as we wouldn't know until we got home, and that was too late. We had checked the rooms before leaving and thoroughly checked our things when we got home, and would not have mislaid jewellery of such a price. We had heard before going and when we got back, that this was not the first time that this had happened to guests of the hotel.

ENTERTAINMENT - Shocking. Absolutely awful.
The entertainment at this hotel where by a long was the worst I’ve ever had.
The animation team, all 3 of them, where appalling. They held activities during the day; some people got involved, but most stayed away. There was no music etc during the day, the atmosphere around the hotel was dead. But the worst thing was the night time entertainment. Usually I will watch anything, because usually it’s ok, but at this hotel, I felt embarrassed for the entertainment team.
The stage was a dodgy platform close to the pool where they would get around 20 people a night to watch. They thought they were really good, but it was rubbish. Normally I would sit there and watch, because I was on holiday, but I have had better entertainment in places like Morocco. In the brochure, it advertises local acts. There weren’t any. It was the animation team dressed up. I can’t even find the right words to describe this without getting my review removed.

HOTEL - The hotel itself was lovely. Well built, marble floors etc. it was great. The pool was good, despite there being only one, there was a pool table etc. if anyone was interested in that, there was a lovely outside bar close to the pool, where a lot of people went during the day. The rooms where large and the beds where good. The TV had two English channels, both where the news.
Outside of the hotel where many decent shops, restaurants and there was a beach one minute away from the hotel. There was plenty of sun beds, not so many sun bed mattresses, as people stole each others, but it was good enough.
The bars where not open long enough, you are on holiday but the bar closes at 10:45.
The location of the hotel was good.

The hotel could have been so much better; a few little touches could have changed it so much. Personally, I would not go back, and I would not recommend it either.

Just returned from a week at the Ialyssos Bay , not as grand as some hotels we've stopped at but was certainly clean and tidy. On arrival we were offered an upgrade by the very efficient reception desk who gave us a sea view for 3 days we hadn't paid for followed by 4 days in a family sized ground floor garden room . They even threw in a late checkout at no extra cost after a little negotiation. Result !

The breakfast food selection was a little limited but we normally found enough to keep us going until dinnertime which always offered something we liked. The evening meals were fine , can't believe some of the comments I've read on here - some people are expecting 5* + Michelin quality food but at 3*+ prices.

The mid morning snacks and afternoon snacks served at the pool bar were a little disappointing both in choice and quality. The all inclusive drinks were not the strongest we've ever come across but we tended to drink in Trianda on an evening anyway where there was more going on and we often eat out anyway on holiday - not a criticism of the hotel

We'd go back there again , the price we paid wasn't bad for October sunshine and the hotel is in nice peaceful grounds well located for Trianda bars , restaurants and shops.
