“bad and good points.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

After spending 2 weeks at the Blue Bay I`m afraid we won`t be returning. Its no way a 4* more like a 2, The room for 3 adults was`nt adequate , 3 beds pushed together, not good when sharing with a 21 yr old. No privacy whatsoever. The shower was a joke, just cable ties to hold it up, and no bath, so had to hold it and hose yourself down,,,awful. although the rooms were cleaned every day, was`nt to a good standard, hairs left all over the room. only plus point was the towels were spotless.
Then onto the dining room, always like a scrummage to get a table, Germans and Russians very rude, taking cups and glasses even though you might have been waiting for a while for clean ones to be put out, coffee machines often out of order. Yes mostly something ok to eat, but always luke warm or even cold, specially at breakfast, beans just put in bain marie from the tin,,yukkkk.
All inclusive bars yet another joke, only 2 out of 4 bars catered for all inclusive, and not very good drinks, there was a bar at the pool we used, which never had any paying customers, but still not allowed to use it, and the plastic cups were horrible, and not hygenic at all.
The only good things I can say about the hotel is that the reception area was lovely, pools really nice and paid cocktails good, all in all I would`nt recommend the hotel unless u like Germans and Russians and the animation team catering for these people, !!!

just returned from a weeks holiday, the hotel was ok for a cheap quick all inclusive getaway, the rooms were cleaned daily by a friendly lady who worked hard to do the whole floor by herself.
The food was not too bad as I have done many all in holidays and knew what to expect, however the whole experience was shocking to say the least, the Russians had taken over ....they push you out of the way to grab what they can, fill up bags and boxes so there is none left for anyone else. The bar staff are friendly but overworked, the pool bar stank of a sickly smell which was quite repulsive. The water park next door was a godsend as not many people were using this so at least we got a sunbed!!!!! The entertainment was an embarassement so gave up on that after the first night.
My tip is to go out for the evening there is a little taverna called the Ideal bar, its friendly, cheap, and there is a singer on every evening also including the obligatory karaoke. If you walk for about 15 minutes towards Kremasti there is a fantastic bar called Tommies Bar which made our stay very enjoyable and a godsend, a lovely yorkshire family who go out of their way to make you welcome.
Would go back to Rhodes again purely to visit tommies again, but never would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: try to get a bungalow with a private pool, or avoid completely

Stayed here in august 2013 for 2 weeks with jet2 holidays. The hotel is a very nice place with a grand reception area and was always very clean. We had a sea view family room that was cleaned daily and was adequate for our needs . It could probably do with a few more plug sockets as I only found one so it was a scramble to charge up phones ,cameras etc as when you leave the room the power goes off. The fridge was basically useless as it too went off when you left the room.

Meal times as has been mentioned were basically a free for all. Never enough tables and when you found one , someone had to stay with it while the rest of the party got their food. Food whilst plentiful, was only luke warm at best, and the drinks machines were pretty useless. Beer pump hardly ever worked and the wine when there was some was warm. Glasses and cups are at a premium.

The main pool area was nice , but , as mentioned on previous reviews was almost impossible to get a sunbed. My tip is to go outside the hotel , turn left then right , up past the waterpark to SUNLAND apartments and you have the choice of two pools with LOADS of empty sunbeds and an all inclusive bar serving drinks and snacks . This apartment block is in the group so you can use it no problem as the guests here use blue bay for AI meals.

Rhodes town is certainly worth a visit, the old town is very picturesque so take a camera.

Water park does need renovating but the kids loved it and went every day as it was free for us.

All inclusive drinks were not the best. Plastic cups with a sharp edge and always running out of mixers. Went to the pool bar- no cups , went to the beach bar - no beer , Doh!!
The pay bar is very nice and has happy hour at 7 oclock. Bit pricey after that though when you consider its an all inclusive hotel.

The dogs were not a problem, very friendly.

Entertainment only lasted about an hour then nothing for the last hour of all inclusive. A bit of music for the kids to dance to would have been good. It doesnt take much to stick a cd on.

Would I return , probably not , but we did meet some great people who made the holiday an overall enjoyable one.

Room Tip: Go to sunland if you want a sunbed and a quieter day.

we went for 1 week all inclusive at the blue bay beach hotel , me my husband and our daughter who is 2! , 18th sept to 25th sept 2013. I would like to point out we are not snobs, we are working class and don't expect 'owt for nowt'!!!
good points : hotel room was spacious, modern and clean and we had a nice sea view! maid was excellent, polite and friendly!!
and now for the rest:
1, food in restaurant was clap cold (ie) not the salad!! this was the same whether it was breakfast , lunch or dinner. I made several complaints to restaurant staff and finally to restaurant manager who had cheek to make out I was been awkward until I pointed out I had a health and safety certificate in catering!!. the food became slightly warmer but not what it should be. plenty of people commented on the temperature of the food!!!
2. any meal time was like bedlam, with eastern Europeans having no manners and constantly walking into you, jumping into lifts when you've been waiting, pushing in for drinks and food! just really rude and ignorant!
3. every mealtime the restaurant ran out of plates, cups, glasses, dishes etc, spent most of the service waiting !! any fruit other than oranges when put out was quickly seized by eastern Europeans again! taking 8-10 peaches at ago !!!
4. not enough sunbeds around pool for size of hotel! we managed one day out of 7 to get a bed!
5. the pool side restaurant / taverna is full of stray cats and dogs, sittings on chairs and begging at tables! and again eastern Europeans encouraging them by feeding them!!! even after many signs around hotel advising against this!!! needless to say we didn't eat at this taverna again!!!
6. the bath water has to be let out slowly otherwise it floods the bathroom!!!!!!!!!
7. reception staff and majority of staff in restaurant couldn't even manage a smile and were not very helpful!
8. the door to the balcony wouldn't close properly and was unsecure! no child lock on it and we were on the 4th floor!!
9. the mattress was the hardest mattress I have ever, ever, ever slept on. it was that hard and lumpy I got a bad back through it!
there is nothing much close by two small supermarkets a car hire shop and a couple of café bars but a bit deserted. we ate out several days!!
10. entertainment was a joke unless you like entertaining yourselves !!
11. the pool bar had a smell of sick about it, whenever you passed!
overall Rhodes is a lovely island but I would not go back to the blue bay beach hotel nor would I recommend it to anyone!!
save your money!!!!

Room Tip: don't go!!!!

It was my first all inclusive holiday and what a treat it was! We had a fantastic time, the hotel was clean and beautiful, staff were very friendly, we were in a smaller hotel which was nice and quieter and a minutes walk from the main hotel which gave us access to the beach, giant pool, choice of outdoor / indoor restaurant, shop, bars, games, entertainment. I would recommend it highly! The food was slightly repetitive but there was so much choice if your not a fussy eater you can have something different most days and considering how many people they cater for the quality of food is great! The entertainment was cheesy but we didn’t mind after our 2 for 1 cocktails and although we didn’t join we didn’t enjoy making fun from afar, perfect entertainment if you had kids though they were clearly enjoying themselves.

There were a few negatives for us, the beds were not the most comfortable but they were manageable for us. The website we booked with said it was in Rhodes town - it is not and is a bit out in the sticks however there are ways of getting out and its about a 15 minute walk to the nearest town.

Where do I start, firstly the rooms, the air con was noisy and held together with sticking plasters, we reported this and they did something about noise but not plasters. The bathroom flooded when you let the bath water out. You have to get up at 6am to get a sun bed by the pool, we had our personal towels stolen from our sun beds, 3 of them. While sunbathing and my brolly was down, someone whipped it away from above me, no questions nothing, if you want a sunbed on the beach you have to pay. Most the guests in the hotel where very very rude and they were not British, German, Greek, Spanish or French. Kids from this nationality went down to the beach and brought large stones back and threw them in the pool at other kids.
The main dining room, I feel so sorry for the staff as they are fantastic, so helpful and friendly, however it is like a cattle market, I have never experienced anything like it in my life, people from the adjoining self catering apartments where filling their plates up like towers and also filling their bags full of food. That staff could not keep up with filling the melon up etc., at lunch time in the dining room at the pool side became very busy so it is best to go to the main dining room at lunch time. It is also best to go for your meal early or late. Food choice is not fantastic but you will always find something palatable. Snacks during the day are not good, rolls with cheese or ham, but dry. On tap wine is not that nice. The cocktail bar is lovely, head for half price cocktails about 7pm, they are lovely and staff are fab. Reception staff lovely as are staff in the shop in the hotel. This hotel is so far out of the way that unless you get a taxi or a bus into old Rhodes you are isolated, there is nothing around so you have no choice but to stay at hotel. Taxi is 15 e each way and the bus well one never came so we gave up. Entertainment, hilarious, OMG I can't believe it, famous catchphrase of one of the animators, this was so bad it was hilarious, I must admit it made me laugh, Katarina is a walking princess and is beautiful, her nationality gives me faith in the rude nation I was dissing earlier. The rest of the animation staff worked so hard and where funny. The Greek night, it was ok, expensive for the length of time of the entertainment, short and sweet. You will see Billy in a different light in this. We went with a teenage daughter as a night club was advertised, there was no night club. Wear jelly shoes on the beach, I had about 12 sting marks on my foot. The bar beside the beach is nice to sit at during the day and just chill with coffee, juice or cocktail of the day. Summery, Staff fantastic, hotel NOT a 4 star, I would say 2.5, I will never return.

Good food, friendly staff, a lovely pool and it's right on the beach. Two criticisms are 1. the rooms are a bit basic and not quite 4* standard, and 2. there were far too many ignorant Russians. The resident stray dogs were friendlier and far less rude.
