“Blue Bay Hotel, Ialyssos, Rhodes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

Having returned on the17th October from Rhodes, i can give a different view of our stay at the "Blue Bay". First, not one of the staff was rude to us, in fact when at meal times and they were extremely busy, they were composed and efficient at clearing the tables, to allow the next guests to sit for their meal. The food was plentiful and a good variety, those guests who took it upon themselves to raid the kids meals, must have no variety at home. You only ever saw a queue for the chips!
There was a overfly of aircraft over the hotel at irregular intervals, but because they were landing the engines were almost on tickover, and it was a plane spotters paradise! The local 'brews' were not watered down, as many people found out after a night drowning their sunburn and not joining in the evenings entertainment!
We thoroghly enjoyed the nightly animation, and a vote of well done goes to Billy's team, his sense of humour is infectious and how they keep going all day defies belief.
One more thing, if i was to criticise, the guests should come with a party mood clause, if you don't join in you have only yourself to blame, stay at home with your knitting.

got home from this hotel yesterday. would deffo not recommend this hotel. its classed as four or five star but personally id say more like 2 or 3. food was awful an so greasy. we werent the only people complaining. quite a lot that we spoke to were not impressed either. if you go down to the beach they charge 3 euro for the lsunbed. unless you book as a v i p you they practically charge you for nearly everything. we also found some of the staff quit rude in how abrupt they spoke to the holiday makers. Having stayed in ialyassos bay hotel (which was a 100% better, food too) we were very, very disappointed with this holiday and hotel. if i was to recommend a hotel to stay in then it would be the ialyassos bay hotel. This is only about 10 15 minutes away an so much nicer an a lot friendly. Considering we booked all inclusive you get charged for cocktails. the wine an beer is awful an the mixers are so watered down. Have never been so glad to get home. I also read the reviews before goin and gave the benefit of the experince. never ever again would i stay there even if you paid me. the hotel is in the flight path so you get the planes coming into land all day. so annoying. NOT RECOMMENDED

We arrived at Blue Bay to be told that it was over booked and pushed out to the awful Sunland apts. Next day we went to Blue Bay and told reception we were booked at their hotel and expected to stay there, we refused to be fobbed off and said we would stay in reception until a room was found. After an hours wait we were given a 4 bedded room on the first floor with sea view..We had to resolve this ourselves as the First Choice rep failed to turn up for the welcome visit. However, after this first upheaval we had a fabulous time, ate in the Taverna, where the food was good, thus avoiding the crowds. Our room was cleaned daily and tea, coffee and milk replaced every day too. On the last day we asked the rep to see the manager on our behave to waiver the 30euros to keep our room which he did. We would recommend the hotel but sometimes you have to be assertive but shouldn't have to be when you pay travel companies to sort problems out...Needless to say we are still waiting to hear from First Choice !!!!

just got back from blue bay hotel in rhodes greece and cant belive how wrong a lot of reviews were dont know where all the negitive comments came from because we had a great time . we enjoyed the food the rooms are cleaned every day and lovly clean sheets and towels provided .yes the food was repetive but was of a good standard and we always found somthing we all liked . much better in the al a carte dining room for which you do need to have a vip band we booked with first choice and you get that with them . the sunbeds are few and far between but lukly we always got one as one of our party is a early riser all i can say is we all had a great time great weather good food good hotel but it is a three star so dont exspect luxury my only issue is that the entertainment is mainly aimed at a german audiance so it was a bit samey and geared up for a younger age group the planes do go over quite frequently but you get used to it and what do you exspect when your only ten mins away we found all the staff friendly and had no issues at all the bar was a bit limited and the wine a lot to be desired and the soft drinks also a bit hit and miss my advise is go and enjoy your time in the sun and also go with the right attitude and relize what we as british somtimes exspect doesnt always match with other countys enjoy yammis

Room Tip: higer floors have nicer views

first of all after booking this holiday for me my wife and two kids (12+7) thought what have i done after reading reviews. But can i just say what a surprise we had the animation team dex vera jorn and billy where absolutley outstanding always smiling and happy they really make you feel very welcome and are so freindly the entertainment is full on all day with so much for kids and adults such as water polo darts bowls volley ball and much much more. the only downside to this hotel we thought was the food it is edible but that was about it water park was great as well when you book make sure it is included in your package otherwise it will cost 10euros for adults and 5 for kids wil be going back next year looking to book it already and only got back yesterday 20th sept 2011. make sure your in the main hotel

Arrived at the Blue Bay Hotel approx an hour before the fire that never happened!!, also as decribed by others woken by screaming and banging on the doors. We were staying on the 4th floor and heard at no point any fire alarm. not knowing the hotel, finally found the way out and was highly suprised to find the fire was almost out. there was plenty of smoke and water everywhere. What hurt the most was as we arrived so late the what can only be described as ignorant reception staff had no time to sort a safe out for us, and urged us to return in the morning. Unfortunatly for us we was told by the Greek guy who woke us to leave our stuff and get out, in his words "Big fire, get the children out, dont collect anything just get out" on returning to our room my wallet was gone off the side containing all our money, credit cards and driving licence, tried to speak to the reception staff who's responce was "What do you want us to do?" spent the next day walking an hour each way to the local police station.
Being a Security and Fire alarm engineer, I had noticed that none of the detection that was black from the fire had been replaced in the 2weeks after the fire, meaning they were contaminated and would not activate in another fire situation, none of the extinguishers had any pressure in on the 4th floor a week after the fire, after this was raised to the staff within a day they replace them Unfortuatly for them I already took photo evidence. On top of all this all the corridoor windows are screwed shut.
We struggled to sleep for at least a week after this event, but on the whole managed to find some enjoyment out of the holiday. The food was average, the entertainment was very good and they do look after the children well. The location is great for airport transfers and is right on the beach.
The staff are very moody and seem to have anger issues, the reception staff are useless.
I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone in the future, and would like to think First Choice will look into these health and saftey issues, as this place is a deathtrap.

We have just returned from Rhodes, and the Blue Bay Hotel, and we all agreed it was a fabulous holiday.
Like some people after reading the reviews on here, I was very anxious about going, our family have never done 'all inclusive' before, and having three children aged 10, 7 & 5, it is natural to worry about safety, food, and the enjoyment factor.
Our children LOVED it, I even heard other children on the beach and complex saying 'it's the best holiday ever'.
We did go with 'First Choice', and had a 'vip' pass that allowed us into the al a carte restaurant, each night and lunchtime, and you could sit right on the beach front, which made you feel as though you were in a proper restaurant, and not so much a canteen. The VIP tag, also lets you use the sun loungers on the beach, free of charge, where they would cost 3Euro's each to other guests.
The beach was pebbly, which my children didn't like, and take some water shoes, as its quite stoney to get into the sea (they do sell them in a little shop to the right of the front of the hotel, a bit cheaper than the hotel shop - about 6Euros.)
We popped into Old Rhodes Town, which is a must, especially for nick-nacks, and gifts for friends, and again much cheaper and more variety than in the resort - and visit George's Pub, a lovely English house of front staff guy will meet you and you can have a good 'crack' too, and he will tell you all the in's and out's about Rhodes Town.
The hotel food was good, and my only complaint, was that it is kept in 'warmers' for the dining period, but it never seemed that hot! Maybe this is the norm for all inclusive??
The hotel is only 15 minutes away from the airport, and on the first day, you hear lots of planes going over, after that you do get used to the noise!
The hotel, has lots of guests from other countires, but most do speak English, and yes they are different from English people, but isn't that the reason you go on holiday for, to see other people and learn about other cultures? So smile, or simply nod your head, and you will see everyone does the same.
It was a very lovely hotel, and the staff were exceptional - so sit back chill and relax or even better just, 'chillax'.!!

Room Tip: If you have 5 guest with you, ask for a family room, all have good views.
