“Another excellent holiday at Avra Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2011

This was our third fortnight at Avra Beach in the last 18 months. We have enjoyed every holiday very much end fully intend to return as soon as we can. The first time we booked we were quite apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews, but when we got there we were delighted. The hotel is very well run, very friendly and clean. The rooms are fairly basic, but comfortable and very clean. This holiday we had an excellent room overlooking the sea. It was very large with a window and a good sized balcony and a fantastic view.

The pool area is lovely.

All the staff in the hotel are extremely friendly and welcoming and will do whatever they can to help you.

There is a good choice of food in the restaurant and we enjoyed every meal (and we can be quite fussy) - it is nice to take the food out onto the terrace and take in the beautiful view while you eat.

We spoke to many other families and couples who also loved the hotel and want to go back again.

The major strength of ths hotel is the animation team, led by Artur, who work extremely hard to keep everyone very well entertained all day. There is a full programme of activities for adults and for children. If you prefer not to get involved you can just relax and enjoy the sun and the music around the pool. One night a week there is a Greek night, with Greek musicians and dancing and on the other nights the animation team provide the entertainment which is always very enjoyable and great fun. They kick off each evening with a mini disco which the kids love, followed by the show (often there is a bingo game just before the show).

We always eat out for the odd meal and there are some lovely places to visit such as Lindos and Rhodes Town, but we enjoy the hotel and the entertainment so much that we tend to spend most of our time there and have our days out when the animation team take their day off.

Thank you very much Artur, Aniko, Ash, Chelsea and Jenny for making our holiday so special and thank you Artur also for putting on Ladies Night!! We'll be back.

Room Tip: We had an end room at the front (North side) of the hotel witha balcony and window overlooking the...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

We have just returned from the Avra beach following a one week stay from 12th Oct 2011, we booked this the day before we went as a last minute online deal and saved £100 compared to others that were there. We were all inclusive as were almost everyone there. I read the reviews before we went and booked it based on there were more good reviews than bad and we were certainly not dissapointed so I would say dont listen to the many bad reviews on here and book it if your looking at Rhodes.

It probably isn't a 4 star compared to british standards but your in Greece not Britain so its their rating not ours, we can all post photographs of broken bathroom ceiling slats and water leaking through the ceilings, but this is the minority of cases and can happen in any hotel, how much time are you going to spend in the bathroom looking at the ceiling anyway?? The hotel was very very clean, the maids changed towels and cleaned rooms every day, the staff were friendly if you made the effort to speak to them and the location is a good base for exploring the sights. It is only 7km from the airport which is 17 euro taxi fare or 2 euro on public bus.

The bus stops outside the hotel and the driver announces the location over the tannoy so you can't get lost. Rhodes town is 2 euro on the local bus which runs every 15 mins and a visit to Rhodes old town is a must as its absolutely stunning. A trip to Lindos is also a must for the same reasons and its narrow streets and no vehicles makes it unique to Rhodes, a trip here costs 5 euros from Rhodes Old town which you have to go to first, or you can hire a car for under 30 euro a day.

There are a number of bars within walking distance of the hotel and a beer outside the hotel costs between 2.50 and 3 euro a pint, there are also a number of taverna's where a meal for two with drinks costs about 30-40 euro so its cheap enough to eat out.

The hotel food is as you would expect and the same as what I have had at every AI place I have been to, there is plenty and it is wide in variety although its repetative and enough is enough after a week of it, but we ate out a few times too which varied the diet. Dinner and lunch consists of salad, hot starters and hot main courses with at least 2 veggie and 4 meat options as well as pasta. It was all edible and we had no real issues with it.

The hotel drinks are ok, the beer is very gassy but it dies down after 30 mins and is more drinkable, the only down fall is it is served in half pints which is a shame. The other local drinks were ok, vodka and orange did the trick for me after dinner when I didn't want any more gassy drinks. You dont get questioned if there is only 2 of you and you ask for 4 drinks so you can drink one and let the other de-gas slightly.

There is an animation team that work very hard and also a kids club, the entertainment is the same as all hotels and its not my cup of tea, however those that participated did so every night and seemed to enjoy it. There is also a lot of daytime activities which they ask you to join in with but certainly dont pester you, if you say no they are polite and walk off, if you find a quieter part of the pool they leave you alone after the first day as they know your not bothered.

This side of the island is more windy than the Falaraki side and is good for wind surfing and the wind is welcome on some warmer days. We had a couple of cooler days and one of these it rained for a few hours but it is the middle of October, it was still warm enough for shorts and once the rain stopped it was a beautiful day.

I would say this is a good clean base to explore the island, and for what you pay for AI its not going to break the bank if you eat out a couple of times in the week to.

Room Tip: ask for an odd number room if you want the afternoon sun as this is west facing

The Avra Beach Hotel, a bit of a disappointment supposed to be 4* but would struggle in a lot of places to get 2*, Entertainment OK but ends at 11pm as does pretty much everything at the Hotel. The food was the same every day, not bad but not much choice even on themed nights. Drinks were good though and easily got with more or less anything you wanted and as much as you could drink (3 beers was plenty for me). Plenty of sun loungers but not much sunny places to put them and no sand on the small thin pebble beach. The room was OK twin hard beds, air-con worked well, TV and plenty of power points. A TV in the room with only BBC world new in English. An internet and games room just about covers it.
The resort is very quiet a few bars restaurants and souvenir shops is about everything on offer. A 2 euro bus ride takes you to Rhodes and the Old Town is the best thing there, nice and lively with shops bars and restaurants but once you’ve spent a day there you’ve covered it.
I won't be returning 5 days was more than enough.

As a footnote I’d like to thank RYANAIR for the 2 day delay in our flight out to Rhodes then just to make sure we had a miserable journey home too they delayed our flight for another 8 hours, thank you RYANAIR that’s the last time I use your airline.

First of all the Hotel in general was clean, tidy and cleaners did their job everyday without fail. Restaurant manager was a little creepy with his fake smiles and gestures but the food and main layout of restaurant was ok. Pool was a little dirty at times and weren't cleaned until the end of every night. Entertainment was 'shocking' it let the hotel down seriously. The staff had no potential to do anything, working individually and not part of a so called 'animation team' in anyway. The main guy 'Artur' who did very little apart from shout from the backstage and speak bad english through a mic and play a boring bingo game that we couldn't understand would only talk to guests he thought he had a chance on taking back to his room or wanted to buy something. The Bulgarian girl 'Aniko' was like a school bully (very rude), you don't want to see this kind of thing on holiday, she would also force people into buying things, I recall her taking 1 couples 20 Euro of the table 1 afternoon telling them they had to buy a shirt!? What is that all about huh!!?? Ash, Chelsea aren't very good but can you blame them working with these 2?

We stayed at the Avra for two weeks in September. This was my wife and I's second visit here as we enjoyed our first stay so much.

We arrived at the Hotel at 11:30pm Local time and were made very welcome by the reception staff. We were also given a complimentary bottle of wine as this was our second visit. We were given room 915 which is not in the main block but in the building over looking the sea, the view was amazing.

The room was basic but provides a perfect base camp for spending days by the pool and by the sea. If I wanted a perfect room with separate bedrooms, a luxury bathroom and a huge T.V I would stay at home. The aircon was a bit noisy but a must if you wanna stay cool on a night and you soon get used to it after a couple of days. A bit of noise from the bar could be heard some nights into the early hours but this was (ironically) drowned out by the air con and was mainly talking as music was turned off at about 11:30.

The pool area was kept clean and tidy and sun beds were plentiful. Yes there were alot of broken ones but all you had to do was look to find a decent one. Me and my wife spent many a time laughing at the people who claimed "all the beds were broken" but were too lazy to look further than the top one on each pile.

The beach is situated right next to the hotel. It's only small (6-8ft) and is a pebble beach. The pebbles are not the best to walk on but if you go to the shop in the hotel you can purchase some beach shoes for about 8 Euros. There is one set of stairs to the beach which are quiet difficult to negotiate BUT if you walk 10 yards further down, next the volley ball court the steps there are fine.

The pool bar had the worlds most miserable bar man during the day. This was just as good as the rest of the entertainment by the pool, watching him slam bottles and swear in Greek was (in my opinion) funny as hell and not worth complaining about as some people did. The drinks were spot on however the local beer (VAP????!!!) is a long way off the beer served in the local bars.

Speaking of entertainment, the animation team here are a real credit to the hotel. Shows were good and the day time activities were well done. They worked flat out from 10:00am till 12:00am, and were just brilliant! Don't miss the fire show on a Friday with Artur!

The restaurant was well presented, clean and well stocked. The waiters were constantly laying tables and collecting plates and never seemed to stop. The glasses you have to use at the dispensers are small but IT'S ALL INCLUSIVE so all you have to do when you finish your drink is get up and fetch another one. The food does get a little samey, especially at lunch time but the evening meals were different every night and the food was always well cooked and well presented. We did eat out in Rhodes town a couple of evenings, which was lovely. The snack bar wasn't brilliant unless you like biscuits and pizza but we were always full from meal times so very rarely used it.

Overall this is a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. It's clean, has a great atmosphere and provides plenty to eat and drink what more could you possibly want?

Room Tip: Don't worry about getting up a 7am for a good spot by the pool. Get up at 8am and reserve the on...

We just enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Rhodes at Avra Beach and had a brilliant time. The public areas of the hotel are four star, are spotlessly clean and modern, however the "bungalows" (actually a split level room partioned by a low glass panel and door, are 3 star, and have everything you need but just basic facilities. Our tip for using the air conditioning at night is to leave it on, but turn off the noisy fan which is easily done from the remote control handset in the room. Beds are a bit HARD but this is largely a personal thing and probably better for a bad back than a very soft bed. Strangely toilets in public areas are not signposted so you need to explore and find them unless you want to return to your apartment.

The impression you get as you arrive is very favourable, and you are greeted everywhere by staff, from cleaners to entertainers. The mixed nationalities are in the main friendly and polite with one or two people who seem to think that queueing involves going to the front not the back of the line. Plenty of sunbeds but if you want a particular one be prepared to get up at 7am.

The situation of the hotel is ideal for exploring with loads to see and do, including swimming in the sea, "on the doorstep". A special mention should be made about the animation team, Artur, Aniko, Ash, Chelsea, Max and the gang were absolutely brilliant entertaining adults and children during the day with sports and games and producing excellent shows in the evening.
Don't miss the Greek Evening too, and join in with the dancing...it's great fun!

The food is of reasonable quality and covers a wide range of local and international dishes, the AI drinks are of the usual quality but try a Zorbas cocktail with Ouzo for local flavour!

Don't fall foul of the restaurant manager as any breaches to the dress code can result in being limited to sitting indoors for dinner, which can be very hot and stuffy, however the requirements seem to be flexible if you are young, pretty and female! The restaurant staff are very hard working, polite and helpful, and a kind word seems to make their day.

If you love cats you'll love Rhodes and Avra Beach has a few wandering around so be prepared...we didn't mind we love them especially the kittens.

Most people in Rhodes seem to speak at least a little English, many are fluent speakers, and are genuinely very friendly in the streets and shops. The island community is by and large crime free and we always felt happy and secure even when we were wandering around in the early hours.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the pool if you want to be in the thick of things, ask for a room at t...

I spent an extended stay in the Avra Beach hotel as it was so fabulous. Overall, the place was extemeley clean with cleaning staff coming to your room daily, and their presence felt around the hotel frequently. The only critisism regarding this would be that the toilets nearest to the pool area were often a bit dirty, smelly and over crowded. I think unless more toilets are put nearer to the pool area (which would be a good idea) then these toilets should be attended to at least hourly. But, in all the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms couldn't be faulted. The rooms themselves were all you needed but not luxurious, but to be honest, we were only in them to sleep and shower.

The food was pretty good compared with other all inclusive hotels we have been to, with a large choice reflecting the many different tastes of the nationalities in the hotel. Everything was always cooked well, tasty and the salads were fabulous. However, I travelled with 2 people who had special dietary needs. Meal times were usually ok for them, obviously their choice was a bit more limited, but snacks to be honest were appauling. One was diabetic and the other wheat intolerant. Every snack in the snack bar was wheat based, other than ice cream, and everything was either fatty or sugary. As a result, we were spending extra money on appropriate and necessary snack foods. You'd think it would be usual to find at least fruit on the snack bar, so this was a down side for us, but may not be a problem for those of you who don't have any special dietary requirements.

The location of the hotel was brilliant, the pool was right next to the sea so you can have the best of both worlds, as well as an amazing view.... which is even more stunning at sunset. Ixia itself is more of a family resort, with an array of bars/restaurants/tourist shops and local pubs to give you something to look at. If you want something a bit more cultural, old town in rhodes is only a cheap 10 minute bus ride away and for those of you who are party animals, there is a local club and bar street in rhodes town to keep you lot happy. Of course the animation team are always on hand to help you out with the partying, they cover all your needs.

Talking of the animation team, Artur, Katie, Tibo, Max, Aniko and some others that were coming and going were absolutely incredible. This is the real asset of the hotel and to be honest, our return will depend on who out of them will be working there. They work so hard, all hours of they day showing no signs of let up even towards the end of the night. Amazing. The daily activities were fabulous, with the boys handling an array of easy/energetic sporting activites for the adults and the girls keeping the kids entertained all hours, small children and teenagers seperately. There was even a talent show for the children, which saw the girls, especially Katie, work over hours to provide an awe inspiring display of the childrens talents. This show was only one of the many on offer. We saw comedy shows, game shows, a fire show and karaoke, all of which were relevant to children and adults. It was just a shame that the music had to be turned down after the show, which was not at all the fault of the animation team, perhaps an indoor dancing area should be provided for use after the show as us adults with children would have liked a bit of a boogie without having to go outside the hotel. Overall, entertainment cannot be faulted, this team are the best we have ever seen and really made our holiday all that it could be.

This hotel, on the whole, provided a wonderful family holiday and we would definitely consider coming back. Thanks to all the staff for making it everything we could have wished for.

Room Tip: Get a sea view.... seriously worth it!
