“Service with a Smile”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

We arrived at the Amathus Beach Hotel for a week’s break. Instantly we were surprised with level of customer service with a smile from the bell boy opening the door to the reception. A fast check in and a free upgrade to sea view on the 7th floor overlooking the beautiful costal scenery of Lxia and a breath taking view of the sunset every evening.

We mainly used the Adult Pool which has a peaceful and a relaxing atmosphere, serviced by Chrissi and Sinjthia, two lovely girls who provided quality pool side service with a smile. The main restaurant is situated on the 10th floor and Dimitria greeted us with a smile and shown to our table, be inside or outside.

The overall service at the hotel, whether it be the restaurant, bar or reception was impeccable.

Nothing was too much trouble and always served with a smile!!!

A special thank you to the Hotel Manager Theofilos Lakkas

Arrived at the Amathus at 10.30 pm, to find the hotel all lit up against the night sky. It was an impressive sight. It's location is perfect, at the heart of everything, but set back from the road, so no noise travelled. There was a quick check in process – however there was no welcome drink. We had requested a quiet room in the vicinity of my sister's room, and this was granted. Our room was at the end of the corridor on floor 7, which suited us fine. The room was of a decent size, with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The mountain view was poor, but we expected this, and as we don't spend much time in the room, it didn't bother us. Once the door of the room was shut, you couldn't hear any noise from outside. The bathroom was a tidy size with a half decent hairdryer and the towels were sparkling white and fluffy. Towels were changed every other day, and bed linen whenever you placed a card on your bed. Pool towels could be changed daily, but they were kept in the Spa centre, which was a bit of a trek from a couple of the pools.
All the pools and their surroundings were kept impeccably clean throughout the day. They were all of a decent size, and our favourite was the adult only pool, although we used all of them apart from the indoor one, over the course of 2 weeks.
Having read a few earlier reviews, I'd begun to worry about the food, but needn't have. Ok it wasn't boiling hot, but there was a huge variety at every meal. Even the pickiest of eaters would have found plenty to suit them. Personally, I'd have liked to see a few more traditional Greek dishes. We had a meal at the A La Carte and it was stunning – all five courses of it.
Not all drinks were available on the All inclusive, but those that were, were usually premium brands. There was no problem with ordering a couple of extra drinks before the AI ended at 11.30 sharp.
The night time entertainment was a bit of a disappointment. A couple of acts - On the rocks and the jazz band were excellent, but some left a lot to be desired. During the day the animation team worked hard to keep people happy. We joined in with the Aqua gym, run by the irrepressible Ilaria, whose energy new no bounds. There was beach volleyball, water polo and funny games to keep you amused as well as table tennis, pool and an American football game.
The beach is easily reached by an underpass. It's fairly narrow, and a pair of beach shoes would be handy. There are quite a few stones and shells to negotiate on your way in and out of the sea.
Rhodes town was just 10 mins away and we found it cheaper to take a taxi, as there was 4 of us, as opposed to taking the bus. Be aware that if the hotel books your taxi then an extra 2 Euros is added to the cost. The taxi rank and bus stop are jut a 5 min walk away.
Just a few negatives – More than two toilets are needed at the main pool. AI needs to be extended to midnight. A La Carte visits should be once per week not once per stay. A couple of extra people are needed to make the drinks at the pool deck bar at night, during the entertainment. A five star hotel should provide entertainment every night of the week. There was a resident pianist advertised, but he wasn't there for the whole fortnight.
Undoubtedly the Amathus' best asset is it's staff, who went out of their way to please, at all times. A special mention to Maria, at the main restaurant, Constantinos at the pool bar, and Ilaria who even came to see us off when we left.
At the moment, the Amathus Beach is not of a 5* standard, however with a little tweaking, it could definitely be right up there.

This is a great hotel. As soon as we entered it we were met by the doorman which was very helpul and friendly. Actually all doormen and all staff from the mobby to the restaurant, bar, shops, cleaning, welness, etc... were all friendly and helpful.
Our room had a wonderful sea view and was clean.
The food was excellent and served in buffet format ut you could also eat in the à la carte restaurant or the pool side restaurant.
There is a bike rental service and in-house car rental service.
You can find a bus stop in front of the hotel. It' s just a short trip to Rhodes town.You can even buy an ice cream whilst standing in the lobby as the hotel has an ice cream parlor adjacent to the lobby;
At the back of the lobby there is a garden containing plants, a little pond and even a waterfall.
In the evening this place is beautifully lit.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone going to Rhodes if the current standards are kept, or even improved, bu-y the management.

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea view on the higher floors

I stayed in the hotel on a family vacation. And we enjoyed it a lot.
The hotel has everything a tourist needs: large pools, spa, pool bar, night life, sea view, and a nice beach.
The food was always good, room service was on time, the rooms were clean, and the staff were very helpful. The only disadvantage from my side as a young guy is that the hotel is located 10 mins away from Rhodes town, which is the clubs area.
To sum it up, great hotel to visit, especially for families with children.

We stayed for a weekend with our kids in Amathus Beach hotel in room 718.
The words are not enough to describe our satisfaction in all levels .
The hotel is situated near Rhodes town just five minutes away by car ,combining mountain and sea. The hotel is positioned on a hillside with the sea just 50 meters away with nice and well organised beach .
The room was nice and clean with a magnificent view .
The Restaurants in 10th floor and 11th floor were excellent . The buffet was plentiful and delicious. The supporting staff polite and willing to serve with a continuous smile despite the workload.
Be sure to see the sunset from there .The view is breathtaking .
The main Bar in 11th floor also very good .
Big thank you to everyone there especially to the Restaurants managment .
Gongratulations....
We will be back for sure

Room Tip: Have a sea view room Breathtaking sunset ..........

My wife and myself stayed in this hotel on an all inclusive basis for one week in June this year and had a great time. We had a seaview room on the 8th floor, the main restaurant is on the 10th floor and the swimming pool, bar and lunch restaurant is on the 11th floor so that for the first 4 days we didn't venture below the 8th. The room was spacious and clean. The food in the main restaurant was very good with a wide selection and a large outside balcony area. The bar also had a balcony and the spectacular sunset views were certainly a bonus. There were never too many people around the pool which was very relaxing. The pool bar and lunch restaurant were also very good. There was also pools and a restaurant at ground level and a private beach reached through a tunnel under the road. The only criticisms were that the evening entertainment could have been better and the lifts can take a while to arrive. Apart from that all the staff were very friendly and we had a very relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: The extra for a sea view is worth it
