“The hotel starts to close down at the end of September”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2007

We stayed here for a week from the end of September through to early October and we got the distinct feeling that it was the end of season. Our room looked out from the side of the hotel, so we could see the sea, but we could also see the scrubland next door to the hotel. Unfortunately we weren't too far round the side to avoid the noise from the entertainment in the restaurant which was 8 floors below us. It was extremely loud and certainly carried on beyond the 11pm deadline we were promised by reception. During our week's stay some of the facilities were definitely being wound down, including the number of restaurants open and the staff available to provide a service.
Although the facilities (pools, shops, restaurants etc) are generally good this should not be a 5* hotel and is nowhere near as good as the Amathus Beach in Paphos, its sister hotel.
The hotel stands on a really busy main road and Ixia itself is nothing to write home about. Once you have tried all the 5 or 6 restaurants within walking distance there is nothing else to do. Rhodes town is a short bus ride away and is definitely worth it, but don't stay for more than a week because you will exhaust all possibilities

Just back from this hotel, knew we had booked a 5 star Thomson's pricebreaker but did not know what hotel until we arrived. We were allocated a room on the second floor looking onto the front car park, knew as soon as I stepped into the room that it has not been prepared for new arrival beds had not been changed, bathroom was dirty, it was now 11 o'clock at night and we were very tired they did however allocated us a new room on the 8th floor looking onto trees, have to say this was very quiet and a far better room than the one which had been allocated in first place.

This is very much a couples hotel with people keeping very much to themselves, don't think it was the language barrier more the class barrier.

Food in the hotel was very good with excellent cooked breakfasts, lunch especially from the roof or pool restaurants were terrific, dinner was buffet which on the whole was quite basic with a choice to suit most people you could also choose from the menu if you did not like what was on offer. No traditional greek food here (first time I have ever had rabbit on offer). Sweets had a great range for everyone. There did seem to be a problem with people wanting to sit on the outside balcony for breakfast, and getting very stroppy when a table was not available, personally we preferred the back of the restaurant which was quiet and non-smoking except for guitar music which was played in the morning and grated on your nerves.

Pools are very cold but once you are in you do not notice, beach quite full of pebbles so wear water shoes until you walk in quite a bit , then it is sandy (can be bought locally for 6 eu) water clear and clean. Beach loungers very unconfortable to lie on could not spend all day sunbathing noticed most other hotels had padded loungers but not ours. No toilets at beach so if you need to go its back through the tunnel up to the hotel.

Once outside hotel it is a very busy main road and very noisy to boot, not easy to cross for any age group, shops very well stocked with everything, but still the usual tourist trinkets. Surrounding area very run down with lots of abandoned half built properties. You can get the bus to Rhodes from outside the hotel they are normally packed but will sqeeze you in if there is a space at all. Rhodes itself was very noisy and busy all the usual tourists shops, you need to be prepared to walk to get off the beaten track to all the back streets. Taxi fare 7eu. bus 1.85. There is a wee shop in the hotel and a jewellers (the owners are lovely) both are very good value and save you carrying water or juice from a distance

Went on the boat trip to Lindos, booked through Thomson's, for what was on offer it was very expensive, you could buy snacks not food on board (ice lollies, juice, water etc). Two hour journey with not a lot of shade on board even downstairs was unbearable. Three hours in Lindos, by the time you climb up to the top get something to eat or drink it is time to come down, most people especially elderly or with children were waiting exhausted by the boat to go back. Lindos itself very hilly and a very steep climb unless you go up on the Donkey .

On the whole great for a rest ,not your authentic greek holiday for this part of the island glad I was only there for a week and not two as previously planned.

  • Disliked — Ixia itself.

This was a great hotel but not a 5 star. It didnt bothe me but it might interest people to know that the hotel is right on a busy road and it is very noisy. The service in the restaurant if you eat outside was great but inside not so good, the food was fantastic. The pool is freezing ! DONT go the the welcome meeting unless you have half a day to spare !!! we had a very nad experience with our rep Becky mcdonald, she claimed to be the bet rep on the island but in ours and other people we spoke to said she was terrible, she also had a bad hygeine problem !! we were very dissapointed in her and she wasnt very helpful, appart from that everything was great. Go to lindos, it was lovley.

I stay here for 3 nights on september. The resort used very well and inteligent the rocky hill side where it sit"s.The staff is friendly and very helpfull.Food in the main restaurant is a combination of a"lacarte meniu and bufett in the evening and buffet in the morning. It is a great choise of meals and all are very good. Also the view from the main restaurant and the bar from 11 floor it is fantastic especialy the one on the 11 floor.Very special is also the waterfall bar.Every night there are show"s and entertaiment.
What I really don"t like is the road in front of the hotel which separate the hotel and pools from ground level from the beach and sea.It is very noisy during the night,so on the sea view rooms you can not leave the windows open to fell and see the sea.The rooms area little out of date(I stay in 713)with old carpet small bathroom, old furniture and noisy airconditioning. After all the hall resort need an refreshment.
The beach is small and no sand only little stones, but there is a little ground with grass and palms beside the beach.Boat have sun chairs and umbrelas. The wather is clear.
It was nice,a little pricely and next time probably I will try the Hilton next door.

  • Liked — how they use the land
  • Disliked — condition of the hotel, road in front and small beach.

This is the 2nd time at the Rodian. Last year I went with my sister and daughter but this year it was my husband and daughter. Things were exactly the same! In fact I think we were in the same room 405. My 6 year old daughter loves it here and if the kids are happy well......! My husband travels a lot more than myself so he's a bit harder to please than me and didn't rate this a 5* hotel, but saying that he did like the hotel and would go back but not on a half board basis, saying that I wouldn't eat out in the evenings in Ixia, the restaurants all seem a bit tacky. I would still strongly recomend this hotel, I think the food is fab. The hotel is very nice indeed, staff are all very nice. The only downside are the bedrooms, these are about a 3* standard in my opinion, especially the bathroom, very small and with no bath, if I did go back I'd probably try to get a room upgrade, maybe the rooms with a sea view are better? The hotel seemed a bit quieter than last year, I wonder if this is because prices at this hotel have gone up, it cost more to say at this hotel than the Hilton on the web site we booked.

We stayed in the Amuthus for two weeks in July and absolutely loved it! We were in a party of three adults and the hotel had no problems in linking our bookings and keeping our rooms together. All the staff were very polite and helped us immediately whenever we had a problem. The drinks in the bar were a bit pricey and it put us off staying in the hotel bars at night, but there were a few places within walking distance so it wasn’t a big problem (turn left out of the hotel, not right!). Also, there is a shop onsite that sells almost everything that is contained in the minibar but at a much cheaper rate. They don’t seem to mind you stocking your own drinks in the fridge as we had filled ours with bottles of water and beer whilst some people we met went as far as emptying the mini bar into a spare cupboard to fit in their own drinks without any complaint from the staff. The food was our big worry, but it was actually fantastic, there was a choice between buffet or a main course from the menu with the buffet for starters and desserts, all of which were of a very high standard. People on half board could also decide to eat out at night and get a 10 Euro voucher (food only) for lunch in the hotel which again was of a high standard. The only problem was their annoying habit of interrupting your meal to try and sell you a ticket to one of their organised events, that we didn’t actually want. The descriptions of which normally took five minutes of hard sell before you had chance to say “no thank you”, I started getting this in early and the lady began to miss out our table, as once I said it, so did everybody else within earshot (I am actually quite a loud person ;-)

There are three outdoor pools at the Amathus and we never had a problem getting a sun lounger when we wanted one. The rooftop pool was our favourite as there was a smaller number of children up there and it made it a bit more peaceful for the adults that just wanted to relax. There was a subway to the beach to get you safely across a very busy road, but it was very dirty (I think that it is something to do with the currents rather than people littering) and we didn’t spend too much time there.

Ixia was very close to Rhodes town and is only 6 Euros in a taxi to the harbour (compared to 5.40 for three on the bus) but it costs a bit more if you order one from the hotel. It doesn’t take long to hail one down from the roadside though, as the hotel is situated on the main beach road (although far enough back to combat the noise).

Overall, this was a fantastic holiday and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to family and friends.

  • Liked — Clean rooms, exellent food, good location
  • Disliked — Prices for extras, everthing was very expensive to buy.
