“blue sky holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2009

My friend and I stayed at the blue sky hotel and loved it. It was very clean, staff very friendly and the pool was small but really nice.. We had b&b which was great and we found loads of local tavernas locally to eat out. The breakfast was buffet style and had something for everyone. The hotel is in a great situation and is only 10 minutes walk to the old town. Everything is within very easy reach, loved it. The room was nice but there was no entertainment which we didnt mind.

Despite previous reviews we were delighted to find that this hotel was in a fantastic location to make the most of a holiday in Rhodes town. There were two small roads next to the hotel - one of which took 15 minute walk to the entrance to the old town and the other one a 20 minute walk to the end of Mandraki harbour. Although on a fairly busy road and small roundabout across from the seafront there was absolutely NO traffic noise at all. As soon as we checked in we were given a local map which was easy to read and very informative. All the staff were friendly and pleasant. The room was at the back of the hotel but clean and quiet (why do people complain about the lack of a view yet are not prepared to pay the extra to get one??). Room was always clean and smart every day with fresh linen and towels. Yes - it was windy but that is a feature of that side of the island and no fault of the hotel but few yards walk away from the front and there was no wind at all. We found some lovely places to eat and drink - especially the new and trendy Boudoir Bar in the new town and the very welcoming Joannes at the cocktail bar VETO 2 mins walk from the front of the hotel. If I had a couple of complaint s- it would be that the food is not 3 star - and they certainly came up with some weird and wonderful concoctions - curried fish/chips for breakfast and only cake, bruised fruit or vividly coloured ice cream for dessert. - and the foyer during the evening was most unpleasant as with most of Greece they still allow smoking indoors. We had a wonderful week's holiday and I would most definately return - for the location was just what we wanted.

I decided to stay at this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. I was not disappointed. My friend and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights the first week of October 2008.

The hotel is excellent and so is the service. One of the receptionist in particular, Julie, is outstanding. She'll go out of her way to cater to the hotel guests.

The breakfast buffet is plentiful with too many choices. Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the Aegean Sea. The only thing is the beach: not very good for swimming, there are too many rocks. You have to walk 2-3 block towards the city to find a sandy beach. But this is a minor thing for me and will not take it against the hotel. If you fly to the island, there is a bus from the airport that will take you to the hotel. If you take a taxi, it is about 25 euros depending on how many suitcases you have.

I will definetely go back to this hotel next time I visit the island.

A word of caution to the people who will stay at the hotel: not too far, there is a nicely decorated restaurant with world flags and tempting for people to go in to eat. DO NOT DO IT!!!! The name of the place is : Restaurant - Pizzeria Belmo Palace. The food is awful and the service bad especially if you complain about the lousy food, like we did. There are many other places near the hotel where you can eat, this restaurant is NOT one of them. Trust me.

due to my lack of adventure where foreign food is concerned -especialy 'buffet style' which I always considered to be poorly prepared and even more poorly presented and kept--.not so at the Blue Sky.I was more than happy to 'eat in' as most evenings I was able to choose at least one starter and main course to suit my palate --much to the relief of my wife who had taken the bold step of booking an hotel!
We had read reports of poor food/poor rooms and 'surly' staff but found all to be far from the truth. The receptionists and the head waiter in particular were most pleasant and helpful(it does make one wonder if surly guests make for surly staff)
I would certainly recommend this hotel on the proviso that a sea view room was available as the side and rear do not overlook the most picturesque part of Rhodes. The beach is not the best for children--large pebbles and steeply shelving but with beach shoes it is not amajor problem .

  • Liked — great location near enough to restaurants and bars area but not too near
  • Disliked — only drawback -(not major for us) is the lack of a sandy beach but we were aware before travelling

The hotel is not as good as we expected, but mabe we have had to much expectations. The room was ok, exept, the bed was not good. In fact we think that is the most important to sleep in good bed. The shower is very very little. It is hard for grown person to wash ( ca 60x60cm (2´x2´)). You can easy see it is not new hotel. Cleaning was ok. The lobby was simple, but good. We have half-board and sorry to say, the food is not good and much little done to make it look nice. The staff was very friendly and good. Infact it is the best in that hotel. Location is also very good and the wiew from our room vas very nice.

first time in rhodes really loved it.on the third floor at the back of hotel with a view of what looked like a builders yard and private apartments.we had a balcony which had the sun in the morning which i liked.we found the breakfasts and evening meals were ok a good choice(we never had food poisening by the way)like somebody mentioned.the restaurant was quite busy and you did have to wait for a table but it is a big hotel and at times too many people going up for food.our rooms were always clean and beds made and towels changed every day.i never looked at the mattress like someone mentioned.maybe some of the people who came here should think about a 5 star plus maybe.we found the shower was rather on the small side but our rep told us they are like that in rhodes.we had beautifull trip to Symi and another to Lindos and made several visits to the oldtown.the swimming pool never got the sun on it until dinner time so the the water was cold and people did put towels on the sun beds cause the same people had them daily and they were not all foreign.local buses were quite frequent and were handy if we did not want to walk back to the hotel.

  • Liked — the position
  • Disliked — the shower cucible

What a wonderful hotel from the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff of this hotel are great. We had a sea view room which I would highly reccommend. The sunset in the evening was breath taking. The reception staff were hardworking and always smiling the same of the restaurant staff. this is an international hotel so do not expect the usual bland British food. there was always plenty choice and all very flavourful. There is a busyish road in front of the hotel but once the doors were closed you could not hear anything in fact it is the quietest hotel, room wise we have ever stayed in. The beach across from the hotel is pebbley and windy which you are thankful for in the height of summer. the pool area is small and the British love to reserve the beds then go out for the day. This did not bother us as we never stay around the pool and with so much to see and do in Rhodes there just isn't the time. We had a late departure so we stored our cases at the hotel and when we came back they gave us a room for showering. There is no entertaiment at the hotel. This is a good standard hotel in an excellent location served by wonderful staff and plentiful food. I would highly reccommend this hotel.
