We have always to be honest with our self first of all and of course the land we were born an lived. In fact iam Greek and Rhodes is an island i spent 5 - 6 months per year (due to business purposes). Some friends came to visit me last August and one night (after going each night to the favorite restaurants of ours) we came with the idea to become a bit of "tourists" in our own country, get lost in the beautiful small paths of the Medieval City of Rhodes and choose our restaurant in lack, just to see what happens.
The building, Ipottikon Restaurant is hosted in, seemed to be fantastic (Neo Classical), nice decoration (to match the atmosphere of the old town), nice lightening.
Food = disaster (avoid any kind of sea food, smells badly, tastes rubbish)
Wine list (among 25 different wines, they had, guess, zero available). Waiter said that he would go to a relative's restaurant to bring one of the wines we asked (as non of our favorite 5 we asked and listed on the wine list, was available). He did so, brought a hot white bottle of wine, when we had almost "finish with our dinner" (in fact did not even start it, as most of the starters and both of the salads we ordered smelled, tasted, looked very badly kept). Wine arrived 50minutes after we had ordered it!
Waiters = so slow. With only 3 tables occupied, i guess 5 waiters should work instead of criticizing the female tourists down in the square. Also they better not reviewing / criticizing their neighbor restaurants with so bad comments, trying to prove that they sell only fresh, well cooked food because first of all this is not true, secondly they do not sell fresh, well cooked food.
Courses were leaving our table one after the other, most of them untouched (as they smelled so badly and dangerous) that you would not dare to touch them, by the way we got around 5 starters, 2 salads, 2 main courses (grilled salmon and meet balls with fried potatoes) For my friends son (5 years) we got meatballs with FRESH fried potatoes, which came to be sth you could only taste the bad quality of oil they are using, but certainly could not taste the potatoes. As for the meatballs, they brought us burgers and when we complained for one more time that night, they said, its they recipe (only the size changes). In Greece meatballs has nothing to do with burgers. Anyway, our young boy did not eat.
Bill: around 150 euro (25-28 only the wine). Rip off + nb even apologized to us or excuse themselves.
Waiters on the entrance, try with snaky and dodgy way to attract the tourists, becoming annoying and obviously impolite.
I would not like to say more, as iam already very angry with all of the situation (although i could speak for hours)
As a Greek and as a tourist would never go there again and of course i strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND IT to anybody.
Its a shame for our country and hospitality!
