“Good 4 stars hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2011

I lived in Grecotel Rhodos Royal 1 week in May 2011 in Sngl room in bungalow. It was my first trip to Greece.
Room was not renovated, air conditioner Dikin was very very old and it did not work. In room was very bad smell of tabacco, phone in room did not work too. 3,5 hours were lost on changing room. Other room was much much better - it was after renovation with normal air conditioner, but with view on other hotel, where sometimes worked generators - noisy with not good smell. : ) For me it was not so important, because during the day i was on the beach or on excursions. Room was cleaned every day very well.
Stuff of the hotel was very friendly with good knowledge of several languages, but sometimes in main restaurant on the terrace stuff was enough nervous and could make comments to you in enough rude form, very loudly on thema how you SHOULD come in on the terrace, if you came on the terrace from the not right door. It was not very pleasantly.
BUT...If look totally..Hotel is very nice. Very nice beautiful garden, nice pool, very nice good quality food, big choise of drinks - juces, fanta, cola, beer light and dark, wine red, rose and white and etc. But not enough fruits. Spring is season of strawberry and cherry on Rhodos, but on table was oranges, bananas, kiwi, apples. Very nice bar on the beach with very delicious ice-cream and very nice lobby bar with free soft and alcohol drinks.
Beach of the hotel is well equipped, sea is great. Special slippers for the beach and sea possible to buy in shop in front of hotel. And big pluses of the hotel were free internet connection in hall near reception, free safe and free sun beds and umbrellas. I think, this hotel is one of the best on Rhodos. Bus stop is very close to hotel. 20 min to Rhodos town by bus. I can say, if i will go to Rhodos again, i will go to Grecotel.

I stayed in this hotel for just one night on May 2011. The room that I had was a sea view room on the 3rd floor. The room looked old and in desperate need of a renovation. The bathroom wasn't that clean and especially the bath tub.
On the other hand the service and the exterior of the hotel was very good. The pool was quite big and the gardens that you have to walk in order to reach the beach are wonderful.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room and watch the sunrise!

Once you check in at this hotel, the very first moments that you walk searching for the elevator, you start wondering whether somebody made a mistake and typed this hotel as a four (and not a five) star. You re-think about this, when you start walking down to the beach, and pass-by the amazing garden and the excellent bungalow facilities. But when you step into your room, or use the quite old elevator, you understand that the evaluation staff had it's reasons.

Anyway, starting with the hotel's stuff, I would say that I couldn't be more satisfied. Everybody there seemed to be in a good mood, everybody would talk to you- to exchange greetings or for everything you may need. Staff makes you feel almost like home. Special thanks to a member of them who was content to find us a shady table during the daytime, when it seemed like there was nothing left for us. Furthermore, the receptionists were friendly and very willing to inform us about every way we could spend our time at the hotel.

Our room was not the biggest I've ever seen, and I have to mention also that it really needed fresh air: a couple of times that we walked in and the windows had stayed closed for a long time, the room smelled like a ship's auto-garage (if you know what I mean). Moreover, the light at the balcony was not functional-and that could be really dissapointing. And, concluding, a reference has to be made about the room's brightness: the room, in general, could not be bright enough in the night time, even with every lamp available working...

However, here's where everything negative ends. The room was clean (just like the rest of the hotel's facilities) , and had big windows, leading to a well seized balcony with an amazing view. That was, to tell the truth, almost breath-taking. Almost amazing was, also, the sleeping quality-excellent matress, linen that smelled cleanliness, pillow of quality.

The outdoor facilities of the hotel are perfect-the garden, the (two well seized) pools, the bars, everything really nice. The same goes to the indoor public facilities (nice restaurant, excellent spa, and a gym bigger than others found in five star hotels), and the quality (as well with the quantinty) of the food available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All these were things worthy of a five star typification.

About the location of the hotel, there are not many things to say: If you come to Rhodes you must have a car waiting for you at the parking (I don't think that anyone would try o discover the island reliant to the public transport), so there's nothing to tell about the "things that are close to the hotel to do". Only thing to mention, the area where the hotel is, and to tell you truth, the area is amazing. Faliraki is amazing, Rhodes is amazing. Have a nice time.

Best thing about the Rhodos Royal is the staff. They are very friendly, speak very good English -- and I'm told they can converse in German and Italian and of course Greek. The beach water is crystal clear with acquatic life all around. You don't need diver stuff -- swimming goggles will do as the visibility never got less than about 100 feet with them on. There is a concrete pier that you can dive and jump or fish off of. Lotsa water sports around. Even kids who cannot swim that well can float around easily in the deep, very salty water. There are lifeguards on duty but we never witnessed any incidents. Giorgis, lead bar keeper at the beach bar makes some very good mixed drinks and non-alcoholic drinks such as cappicuno's and frappe's -- the greek iced coffee. Ask for the frappe with sugar and milk -- and you can perhaps see where some of the chain coffee places get their ideas on some of the drinks they sell a lot of. The concierge staff is fantastic and cheerful. I should remember a name or two but since each was very good, I would miss one so I'll just refer to them all. Bus service to and from Rhodes City is simple and very often (every 30 minutes). The beach is clean with a ground level boardwalk. The city is fun and full of shopping. Amazingly, the local people are very friendly -- similar to what we have found in Marbella Spain and Fardo Portugal.

Lastminute, all-inclusive booking through Thomsons. Not cheap, but excellent value for food and drink. The wine is bottled and you help yourself at the wine fridge, good choice of whites, rose and red. The dining room was BUSY however, we never saw a serving plate empty and the high quality food kept coming and coming. Don't miss the bread and the afternoon crepes near the beach. Beach too stony to walk into the sea and pool needed a really good makeover, but apart from these minor flaws I would thoroughly recommend it and will be looking out for Grecotels in the future. Don't miss the water park 10 minutes up the road, stunning views from the lazy river. Also trips on the bus (rep packages way overpriced) on the local bus which stops right outside of the hotel and you can sit under a big tree to wait. The Italian Spa and Rhodes Town both highly recommended. If you need internet connection you're in trouble - the hotel wanted 50Euros for the week! And the local bar which offers it for 'free' charges 2.50 Euros for a soft drink.

Went for 2 weeks end of August this hotel is old and needs a complete make over. The real let down was the pool it was dirty old and falling apart. The hotel has had a lick of paint and it shows.
Arrived 1am and checked-in was ok . The room was ok but again you can see it is old and needs to be updated. The A/C in the room was of some concern we got dry throats at night again A/C must be old and needs attention. The beds were very hard so found it difficult to sleep. The main reception is nice and clean and more modern. The gardens and general hotel site was very nice but again you can see it needs work. Some of the pathways were uneven which can be a hazard at night.
The main restaurant food was good lots to choose from. The staff were great. The other two restaurants are poor you will see people have crossed there names out after being once. The general staff are also very nice and work hard. The kids club was good and they made great efforts to entertain the children and then the adults.
There was plenty of sunbeds. I was up at 7am but you could get beds during most of the day. As stated both pools are old and falling apart they always had bits of dirt on the floor even after been clean and the coating is coming away and you can see where it has been painted over but now this is coming away. You can see black staining in the pool and a dirt line at the water level. It also makes you wounder if the pool is in this state is the filter system in poor condition. This hotel seems to have the worse part of the beach even with beach shoes getting in and out of the sea is a difficult process.
It seems because this hotel has gone green you do not get any drinks in the room fridge you get 1 bottle of water then it is down to you. The soft drinks are not branded but from the machines that mix soda and flavourings. The wine is basic table wine which was ok and the beer is just a cheap brand. The other drinks were ok you had a very good choice of sprits and cocktails. The other major let down was the rudness from some guests who seem to think they were the only people at this hotel. There is also no secure luggage room so your case can be sitting in the lobby area if you are not leaving till the evening. We paid 30 euros to keep our room till 6pm.

Holiday to Rhodos Royal 4th August 2010 for 2 weeks, booked with Thomas Cook Holidays.Flew from Manchester UK

Arrived mid afternoon the only guests to be dropped off @the hotel,Straight in & seen by reception staff all checked in within 5 mins, very friendly staff, & the porter took our luggage to our room with us.

We had requested a high floor with sea view, and that is what we got, our room was 640 the 2nd floor out of 4 floors and an end room, the room was massive it had 2 balconies 1 facing a quiet side of gardens the other facing the pool both with sea vies.the bed could have fitted 4 people in and the bathroom was very spacious too, very clean and plenty of hot water for showers day or night.

The food was lovely and plenty to choose from, i myself am a very fussy eater but didnt have a problem what so ever, each night was themed, there was soup eveynight, a good choice of different meats and fish and vegiterian options, and always pasta, with either pasta sauce or bolognaise sauce for lunch time and t time evey day to fall back on.

Drinks were available day and night, the soft drinks we the proper brands of coke, sprite, fanta lemon/orange, the beer was nice to and at lunch & tea time you helped youself to a choice of white, rose, or red wine out of the fridges.

The main bar a night had a good selection a branded spirits the only one i noticed not to be branded was the vodka tho it still tasted fine.
Entertainment was good, and then continued at the beach bar till midnight, so the noise wasnt directly at the hotel centre.

shopping centre next to the hotel very reasonable and nice to look around. easy access for the bus either to Falaraki 1euro e/w or to Rhodes town 2euro e/w they do cram you on tho depending on the times you go.

Overall we had a lovely time and would go again, the odd area of the hotel does maybe need a lick of paint here and there but it isnt that noticible, its friendly and clean what more could you ask for.
English guests are in the minority but that isnt always a bad thing!!
