First of all this was not the hotel me and my girlfriend chose to stay in. We originally chose to stay in the Cyprotel Faliraki. Thomas cook contacted me 48 hours before our departure date to let me know that this hotel was over booked and we had been chosen to be moved to another. Me and my girlfriend have never felt so angry and frustrated and especially the fact it was for her 18th birthday present. Thomas cook give us the choice of a refund which we wouldn't receive for a week or they said we could change destinations but wanted a £250 excess fee per person which we didn't think is acceptable as they were the ones who made the mistake, we had to just take the hotel they had put us into as we didn't feel we had a choice.
Once Thomas Cook told us the hotel we had been put into we looked online at the hotels website and thought where the hell have been placed to our dismay once arriving to the hotel we seen that it gives the hotel no justice at all. We had never been so relieved that the hotel was actually really nice. I've never seen a hotel so clean in all my life, always cleaners around, the floors always sparkling.
We was in room 316 which we did ask before arrival for a middle floor room which they did give us. The room is a good size just for the two of us but we didn't have a bath, just a shower. From the balcony we could see the water park which is really close and such an enjoyable day. On the second day our air conditioning stopped working which we reported to reception and they sent an engineer up straight away and it was working better than ever, it was a bit noisy. the maids came everyday changing the beds and fresh towels, they did make the room spotless. However, my girlfriend had taken a pair of earrings with her from a birthday present which were left on the dressing table of a day, one day going back to the room we had noticed they wasn't there. I pulled out the furniture to see if they had fallen down the back and my girlfriend also double checked. We asked our rep for advice on what to do as they wasn't to be seen or found he said check for the third time and if they are not there report it to reception. We went straight back to the room that evening to pull all the furniture out again and found them positioned in-between the draws and the dressing table, friends we had made over there had the same issue with an expensive mascara and sunglasses and after telling them what happened once we found the earrings they looked and found it in exactly the same place. Think what you want but advise I would give, is not leaving anything little and valuable about that they may think you won't realise will go missing.
The food within the hotel was always fresh and hot. It did seem to get a bit repetitive but the quality never failed. The old chef who cooked in front of you was lovely he always made conversation and made you feel welcome. The only thing I would say is be careful with some of the meats as they tended to bed pink in the middle.
All the spirits, wines and beers were great! The tequila is a lot stronger than at home but great for pre-drinking before hitting faliraki strip. The soft fizzy drinks were a bit disappointing but tasted fine mixed with the alcohol. Also the staff are always really friendly. Can be a bit rude when you ask for a multiple amount of drinks.
The animation team - never seen a group of people filled with so much energy getting people involved every hour of the day. They were probably the best animation team I've seen from any other holiday. It did get a bit annoying when they get persisting for you to get involved when all we wanted to do was relax, in the end they got the point.
The hotel being in it's location is good, 5euro taxi to Faliraki centre, about a 25 minute bus ride to Rhodes town which I would definitely recommend. Due to Thomas Cook messing up our hotel they give us a free excursion which we picked Lindos live - a boat trip down the east coast and time to spend on that part of the island before coming back and doing swim stops jumping off the boat which was incredible. If you go to Lindos definitely go up to the acropolis and ride the donkeys that is an experience just itself. At the top the views are spectacular.
This hotel overall is really good, suites all type of people whether it be families or couples. The only complaint is that I would say not even a quarter of the people were English and the foreigners were really rude, jumping ques and do actually stare and talk about you in their own language. We did actually meet an English couple which we was can say made our holiday ten times better as we probably had the funniest two weeks ever. We probably would return to this hotel as we know what to expect and the island is beautiful but only if they did accomidate for a bigger English majority.
