“Fabulous phevos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

Thank you Giorgious for a wonderful stay. You gave us excellent rooms and did your best to meet my email requests. This is a wonderful base if a little lacking in kitchen equipment. But then i dont go away to cook, but it would have been nice to have a toaster. Spotlesly clean, towels and sheets changed every two days. Maria is a little wonder, she cleans from early morning until late afternoon and never intrudes, waits until you go out whatever time before she cleans. Please try Ancient Thera Restaurant just above the Phevos. Found this little gem two days before we came home. Real home cooking, you very lucky if you manage to find one of these Restaurants . Tomato fritters to die for ! Hope to go back again soon.

I can only say that anything you have read about this place which was negative, either through this site or any other is complete rubbish. I really don't want to write this, as I would like to keep this place exclusive and be able to book it at will, but that wouldn't be fair to the owners.
Georgios and Anna (and young Jacob) are probably the warmest hosts that you could imagine, but you need to bear in mind that this is a family business and not a corporate set up and a little consideration for their finances is needed (ie. spend a bit of cash at the pool bar - Georgios home made wine is worth every cent).
The rooms are spotlessly clean, as is the pool itself, and all the surrounding areas. Maria, the cleaner carries out her work with respect to the guests and there is fresh linen and bedding every day.
As a base for exploring the island it could not be more ideally located. Sat at the foot of the highest mountain on the island, you have the options of hiring a quad bike or car and are fairly central for discovering all the of the island or staying local and walking, scrambling, or serious rock climbing in the area.
All in all an absolutely superb place to stay and relax.

We arrived at the Phevos Villa and basically needed a base to explore Santorini and this place was exactly what we were looking for. Spacious, very clean and George, Anna and Jacob were very friendly. Located about a 5/10 minute walk to the beach where there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, but obviously more expensive to those a little inland.

We tried God's Garden and agree with the other reviews the food was amazing as was the price. Although saying that the Greek food is delicious, so much variety and very big portions. We also enjoyed breakfast at Demilmar, try the Greek breakfast for 8 euros, worth it as you get an omlette with peppers and feta, toast, orange juice and a yummy Greek yogart with honey, keeps you going all day! Can't fault any of the restaurants we tried and maybe it was because it was the start of the season but we received a free dessert nearly all the time.

Now for things to do, we tried the cruise to the volcanic island, followed by the hot springs, then lunch on another island before heading to Oia for the famous sunset. Sounds lovely doesn't it but let me give you some more info and then you can decide whether this excursion is for you. The volcanic island was 2 euros to go on (think its 10 euros in high season), lots of uphill walking but views are fantastic when you reach the top, the crater was not spectacular though. The swim to to the hot springs was an ordeal as the boat stops quite away so if you're not a strong swimmer don't do it plus the water was very cold and when you reach the hot springs it was barely warm and you have to swim over rocks before getting there. No one was looking forward to the swim back and the current can take you away from the boat. Lunch on the other island was a welcome relief but then came to bit to Oia. No mention of the 200 plus steps or the donkeys and their poo! Yes you could either get to the top by climbing the high steps or sit on a donkey (5 euros) and go up that way and believe me its scary on the back of a donkey. We chose to walk but when we heard the bells we knew they were coming so basically had to move out of the way for them to pass by. The smell and mess was awful can only imagine in high season it will smell worse. So if that excursion appeals to you then go ahead, oh and the sunset didn't happen as too much cloud so its not always guaranteed.

You must do a Greek night its great fun.

All in all an amazing place to visit, great food, friendly people and will deinitely go again as still more to do and see.

Room Tip: If you're looking for basic but great value then this is the place to stay.

When booking 2 star accommodation I expect a basic, clean base for a holiday. Phevos was just this basis but everything worked and we were very impressed with how clean it was. We were also impressed to have a double bed - most accommodation such as this in Greece you get 2 singles! The pool was gorgeous, very big and lots of loungers, we went early Sept and never had problems getting one. The location is also very handy as only a 5min walk to bars, restaurants and the beach.
Ok so the bit that stops this place being perfect is the owner and his attitude. We tried really hard to build a rapport by asking George about his wine etc and using the pool bar for drinks/snacks on the first couple of days but after that we gave up! Don't get me wrong he wasn't rude but I have been to different parts of Greece on numerous occasions and one of the reasons I return is because of the people and their friendly/welcoming nature, so George's attitude wasn't what we were expecting. You get the feeling from him that sometimes you can be an inconvenience when you want a drink etc and then you get the feeling that he is resentful because more people aren't using the bar, he could do with some tips on customer care! Some nights it wasn't open and if it was it normally closed quite early. Also the drinks were very expensive, but Perissa is packed with lovely places to eat and drink so it didn't really matter.
We had an amazing holiday, Santorini is paradise and my fiance proposed to couldn't really have got much better. If you are looking for reasonably priced, clean well located apartments with a fantastic pool I would definitely recommend Phevos, And it is nice to see a family run business its just a shame they don't pay more attention to their customers, but this wouldn't put me off returning!
PS the barking dogs some other people are referring to is rubbish! No more than you would get anywhere else!

We enjoyed our stay at Phevos very much though, over time,we've learned that it helps to have a great sense of humour and not to take ourselves too seriously, particularly whilst on holiday. We were politely and efficiently greeted by George on arrival and these attributes were well evident during our stay. George is a clever man and doesn't suffer fools gladly so, if the cap fits wear it and don't complain ...enough said on that topic then.

In common with many other Greek apartments our room was basic though the shower facility was a joke....we had to fix it ourselves with string so that the head stayed above us. The daily maid service was excellent and we were always left clean towels and bed linen. The pool was lovely, the sun loungers plentiful and comfortable and the pool bar very good....toasties, cold Mythos etc. George even re-jigged the pool bar TV so that I could watch my beloved :-) Blackpool FC get beaten and therefore relegated :-( by Man U on the last match of the season. I remained brave and alone throughout!!

Would we go back there?....probably not. But that says more about us not wanting to be creatures of habit rather than a criticism of Phevos. Have fun!

Room Tip: Nothing specific to add.

Been to Perissa 8 times now and this is the best place we've stayed. Admittedly, we've had bigger rooms, but the all round experience at Phevos was really good. The rooms are immaculately cleaned every day, bar Sunday, and we were never disturbed by the cleaner. Small, but perfectly adequate bathroom, which has 2 things rarely seen in Greece. A bracket for the shower head that works and amazingly, the drain is at the lowest point of the wetroom, so that it dries out properly. Nice bar area which encourages you to talk to other holidaymakers. Good sized pool compared to some places we've stayed at. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we will be back. Kieran and Deborah, if you read this, thanks for the caramel vodka - tasted too nice, would have ended up hammered by 9.30.
