Our second visit to the Marianna and again we had a fabulous time. This hotel is perfect for adults who don't mind a short walk down the hill to Perissa. We had 2 weeks of blissful peace and wouldn't think twice about going again. We found all the staff very helpful, just try a couple of words of Greek, it goes a long way! Nisha, the barman, is nearly always on hand for drinks and taking orders for food from the restaraunt down the road. The rooms are kept very clean and towels are changed nearly every day. I would say that this hotel is not suitable for children as there is nothing to do for them and people with walking difficulties may find the hill a bit of a challenge. If you're looking for a peaceful hotel within walking distance of all that Perissa has to offer, go for the marianna, it's bliss!!! For food in Perissa you can't beat the Delmare on the main road. The food is out of this world and the service fantastic, all at a very reasonable price.

i cannot believe what people are saying about this hotel. This hotel is fab. People are great and cant help enough. The Bar man Nisha is Fab, he cant help enough, music is great and i have had the best sleep ever. The Hotel is cleaned every day and we have no problem with this place what so ever. It's a chilled out day and the nights relaxed and friendly. Other bad reviews are a personal opinion and unjustified, due to its popularity with the present guests - especially those i am sitting with - typing this in shock of what others have written!
From all who reside in Mariana at this moment.

This hotel is wonderful and the owners are so nice, but the hotel is so close to the harbor cab drivers will refuse to take you. I'm not kidding! There are only 30 cabs for the whole island and they don't want to waste there time with you. So do your homework and arrange to have a car there. It was worth having a car anyway. We saw more of the island. This hotel is really worth it!! Also, they have a lot of parking.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week’s stay at the Marianna Hotel booked with Thomson. I’ll admit that I was slightly apprehensive having read the reviews on here beforehand, but given that we booked only 2 ½ weeks before departure, and it was the only reasonably priced deal left in Perissa - £400 for the week – I figured it was decent value.

Unfortunately, although Santorini is a lovely island and the hotel was in pleasant surroundings, 15 mins walk from the beach, all the negative points raised by previous reviewers are undoubtedly true:

Noise: The Marianna was without doubt the noisiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. All the noise came from within the hotel as it was 10 minutes walk away from the main strip. Yes, the majority of hotels in Greece have marble floors which echo, but at the Marianna the noise level is something else. Unfortunately, we were allocated a ground floor room near reception and the noise from guests talking loudly in the mornings on their way to breakfast, drunken guests coming in at 3am, guests stomping up and down the stairs and slamming doors was absolutely appalling. Shamefully, the worse offenders were the manager and her assistant who were seemingly unable to talk to each other at normal volume and felt it necessary to shout their way through conversations circa 5/6am each morning. Completely unacceptable! Avoid rooms on the ground floor at all costs. I did not have a single night’s uninterrupted sleep and most nights, thanks to being kept awake by the noise from the pool bar which was open past the stated 10pm closing time – more like 1am most nights - I actually got less sleep then I would have at home and woke up shattered most mornings. In addition, be aware that the walls are very thin and you can hear absolutely everything – including toilet habits!- that your neighbours get up too.

Pool Area: On the upside it was one of the largest pools that I saw in Kamari, and in spacious surroundings on a terrace with sea views. Unfortunately, the barman was obsessed with playing music non-stop, including loud rock music (mentioned in previous reviews) so no chance of catching a quiet moment by the pool. Even less chance of having a snooze as they were no cushions whatsoever on the ‘sunbeds’ - I use the term lightly as you are in effect lying on wooden slats. Some of the guests had brought lilos to place on top to ‘cushion the blow’ so to speak, but I felt that the fact that such a basic and standard commodity, which impacted on everyone’s comfort, was missing amounted to a somewhat contemptuous attitude towards the guests.

Rooms: Basic, small rooms but better than expected bathrooms. The shower did have a separate drainage area but no shower curtain. Beds & pillows were hard and uncomfortable. One sheet given to cover yourself with! Coupled with the few occasions we spent on the ‘sunbeds’ we both left with aching backs and we’re fit 30/40 somethings! Towels only changed once a week, sheets not changed at all. We were unsure what the cleaners must have been doing in all of the ten minutes that they must have spent cleaning our room!

Breakfast: Very basic (we wanted to go self-catering, but all these rooms were gone when we booked – I now understand why). Bread, cheese, ham, cake, greek yoghurt, boiled egg (some days) & orange squash everyday, in addition to tea & coffee.

Overall, I feel that the hotel has potential but for these basic failings that need to be addressed. A large notice by reception (instead of 1 fading scrawled handwritten note stuck behind reception) asking guests to be considerate of others especially in the morning wouldn’t go amiss. (Other guests had complained about the noise during the night). If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place to stay, then this is not the hotel for you. However, if you are on a budget, don’t mind being a 15min walk from the beach and could sleep through an earthquake, then this will probably suit you down to the ground.

This is our second time at this hotel. The first time we stayed self catering. Which is much better than the breakfast they give you. I know they have to caterer for all nationalities.

The pool and poolside bar are excellent. The barman [Nehesa sorry if spelt wrong] was very helpful, and help make one guest birthday very special.
