“Serene, clean, and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2009

A charming newer building that looks small from the outside, but has good sized rooms, a beautiful courtyard with white granite stairs that lead you to your room. Gorgeous views of the mountain, on top of which there is an ancient city of Thira. You can (must!) hike up there without much effort, just make sure you have 2 euro per person for the tickets. About halfway to the top the trail splits in two, and to the right there is a church clinging to the rock. This branch of the trail can be a little scary at some point.
As everybody says here, the hotel is crispy clean, with air conditioner and refrigerator in the room, free wireless internet that actually works in the room, hairdryer in the bathroom. Safe box in the closet. Fresh towels every day and fresh bedding every few days. The famous small showers are really on the smaller side. No shampoo or conditioner, bring your own.
The "signature" breakfast is a choice of coffee or tea, juice, bread, butter, honey, and an egg. Good enough to start the day, because there are tons of high quality sea food at the restaurants on the beach for under 10 euro. Speaking of restaurants, our highest praise goes to the Forum, with the second best being Acropolis. The location is also great. A 5 minute walk to the black sand beach. Umbrellas and sun beds prices run from free to up to 12 euro for two, so don't hesitate to ask.
So, to us, this was a perfect accommodation on Santorini. In Perissa we had easy access to the beach, and when we wanted to go to the Caldera for a dinner and a sunset (a funny tradition, when almost entire tourist population gathers on the Caldera to watch the sun go down), we took a bus to Fira, or to Oia. We could rent a car for 30 euro/day, but we chose to go everywhere we wanted by bus for 1.40 or 2.00 euro per person per trip, and not think about who's driving after the dinner.
Mr. Antonius is very friendly, helpful, tactful. On our last day he let us stay into the late afternoon, until it was time to go to the ferry. Irigeneia hotel is an honest family business. We highly recommend it to active adults.

The stay at the Irigeneia Hotel was pleasant. A "no frills" hotel that worked great for a few friends traveling together. The hotel staff was incredibly kind. The rooms were clean although it seemed no one else was staying at the hotel. The dust on the tables led me to think that the room hadn't been occupied for a while.

The proximity to the beach was great (3 minute walk). It was nice to be staying outside of the tourist hustle and bustle in Fira and Oia. Highly recommend renting a car or scooter to get around the island. Free parking at the hotel.

The Irigeneia is a nice, family run property conveniently located in Perissa on Santorini. The rooms are relatively spacious, very very clean, and the beds comfortable. Overall it's relatively basic, but absolutely met my needs for my 3 night stay in mid-September 2008.

There are no amenities provided in the bathroom, so bring your own soap and shower gel and shampoo. There is a hair dryer as well as a refrigerator.

The tap water isn't really for drinking - it has a strong beachy taste to it and locals recommend buying bottled water in the area. The Mega Mart half a block from the hotel sells large bottles (1.5L) for a very cheap 0.80 Euro.

Breakfast is simple but great - the fresh bread with butter and local Greek honey was so enjoyable!

The hotel didn't offer to pick me up from the airport, so I took a taxi -- plan for about 15-20 euro per person (negotiate when getting in and be prepared to share a taxi with others heading to the vicinity). I interacted with the older gentleman (Antony?) most of the time - he's relatively quiet and didn't really have much to suggest in terms of activities/how to get around, instead pointing me to the 3 travel agencies a short walk down the street which had a lot more information on tours, etc. Michael (the son, who confirms the email reservations) was only on hand occasionally. Both were very nice, however.

I appreciated the free wireless internet in the hotel -- so rare after spending extraordinary amounts per day in Athens hotels!

Saturday night was a bit noisy - firecrackers set off by locals in the area around 1am, and the hotel water pipes seemed to creak/settle/groan every 30 seconds or so for hours. But my other nights in the hotel were quiet.

Perissa was a great community - plenty of restaurants to choose from (Lava on the beach road is terrific!), quiet enough but convenient (bus terminal very close to hotel) to be a good, less expensive choice than the main towns. Definitely get to both Oia and Fira, though, to see the Cycladic architecture and enjoy the caldera views.

Overall - I would stay here again if I were looking for a basic, bargain hotel with comfort and a good location. Not luxury by any means, but good enough for the great rate I got.

  • Liked — Basic, very clean, good location
  • Disliked — Very basic - no extra amenities, not intended to be luxury accomodations

We had a very nice and most pleasant stay at this so clean and very well run hotel. The manager, Mr Antonis, was so kind to pick us up by the ferry when we arrived and gave us a very warm welcome.
The hotel is located in a quiet part of the village with only a few minutes walk from the beach, loaded with restaurants and bars. During our stay we appreciated the warm familiy atmosphere, all gentle help and advices and the feeling of being so well taken care off. This is defenitly a place to recommend and return to.

Irigeneia Hotel is located few steps far Perissa beach.
The hotel is very very clean (more clean than Greek hotel standard) and is a family run hotel.
The room is quiet, clean, very simple, with air condition, and they change towels every day.
at the breakfast you have coffee, milk, bread, butter, marmelade, fruti juice and an egg.
the price is ok, the staff (owner, his son and a maid) is very kind and helpful.

The small hotel is family run and owned. We arrived late our first night due to flights and the hotel manager stayed up near midnight till we showed up. He and his wife were very gracious and helpful. All the facilities worked well. The rooms were clean and spacious. It is a 3 minute walk to Perissa Beach, food and stores and still located in a quiet area. The building setup creates a cozy and private atmosphere.
