“Fantastic view - friendly helpful owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2010

I am finally writing this review of Villa Illias and have nothing but great memories of our time here.
We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 teenagers) and stayed in a traditional apartment with caldera view for 5 nights. The owners were helpful with everything and nothing was a problem for them. The apartments are away from the main hotel (down a path and steps) but this was not a problem. The view was fantastic and after a day sight seeing was a relaxing spot to sit and just enjoy the scenery.
The apartment had enough room for us all - wasn't huge but was enough. Very clean and simple. The private veranda had table and chairs and 2 sun lounges and was hard to walk away from the spectacular view. It had a little basic kitchen but we didn't use it as breakfast was included and we were out all day then back for nibbles and out for dinner. Breakfast included breads, cereal eggs and pastries as well as juices and coffee and tea - great start to your day. We had our laptop with us and the hotels wireless connection worked on the veranda so we could email and chat to friends and our youngest daughter shared the view with her friends using the web cam!
The hotel is away for the main tourist area but still only a short walk to Fira - the scenery on the way is beautiful. It would probably take about 10 minutes to walk to Fira but you can't help but stop and enjoy the view along the way. There are restaurants near the hotel and George and Pauline were very helpful in recommending places to go. We arrived just before dark and George helped us to our room and we followed his recommendation for dinner and it was lovely.
There is a little supermarket nearby and a travel agency which we used to book a car and a trip to the volcano. The lady in here was really friendly and helpful as well.
I would recommend staying here - you will be more than happy with the hotel, the view and the owners.

This review is a long time coming, we stayed at Villa Ilias October 2008 for 4 nights.
We had such a nice stay and found the accommodation to be very neat, tidy, everything was great. Deffinatly value for money.
We had our own private balcony and the views were amazing. My partner actually proposed to me on the balcony there.
Close to everything, breakfasts were great.
We cannot thank George and Pauline enough for their help and assistance. They trully are the nicest people we met on our trip overseas. Appologies for it taking so long to write this review.
When we get back their one day we will deffinatly be staying here again.

Perfect location, close to tourist center Fira (Thira), close to public transportation, picturesque view, the best place to see cliffs. Hotel very clean, got breakfast included thus no hassle to look for food in the morning. Service was excellent, a small pool allows to get refreshed in hot days.
Great value for the price, great place to take pictures., sunsets are amazing.

We stayed in Villa Illias after having been in Santorini for a few days already staying in Kamari. We stayed budget in Kamari (sea side beach) but were pleasantly surprised for what we got for our money, so was interested to what you would for alot more in firostefani.

I think alot of what you are paying for with this hotel (as with many other) is the view. The sunset from the hotel is gorgeous. We had the exclusive room with a terrace. The room was cosy, so you are not paying for the size of the room.. the exclusive means the view and secluded terrace. If wanting to book an exclusive room, it is worth requesting the one with the terrace at the end of the block, that you have to get to by walking past the pool and up some stairs (its own stairs) and you enter from the terrace. This room means you have your own private terrace from which to watch the sun set. The balconys in the hotel don't enable you to get the best views of the sunset. That said there are plenty of chairs from which to watch the sunset by the pool, so you won't be limited.

The room was kept clean and the staff were always available to answer questions.

Breakfast was great.. I normally don't find much I like when it comes to buffett breakfasts at hotels, however, this one was great.

We decided one day to walk from the hotel to Oia for the sunset... what a walk.. took 2 and a half hours... 3 litres of water.. no toilet breaks.. but it was worth it. You obviously have to be fit to do the whole distance and some of the paths closer to Oia as not perfect, however, it is definently worth walking in the direction of Oia for 30 minutes or so, just so you can look back towards Fira and Firostefani.. and look at some of the other hotels.

A very nice relaxing break.

Villa Ilias is in the perfect location. We did a lot of research before selecting this place, and we were not disappointed. George and Paulina were so gratious and welcoming. The views are amazing from the pool area and you're almost at the top of the ridge, so you don't have to worry about people looking down on you from other villas (fish bowl). It was literally heaven on earth. There are a couple of small grocery stores just seconds from the villa, which was very handy. Then, just a quick 15 min. walk to Fira for shopping, etc. Santorini is so incredibly beautiful, and Villa Illias made it all the more magical. We stayed right around 10 days, and couldn't have been happier. We took walks everywhere (no need for a car), and took the local buses out of Fira to go to the beaches (other side of the island) and Oia.....actually, we walked to Oia one day and took the bus back. No one really said much about this walk, other than it's beautiful. While I agree that is true, I wouldn't recommend it. My partner and I are in pretty good shape and I swear it almost killed me....leaving Santorini was so sad for us. Saying that it was worth going is the understatement of the century.....like I said...it's heaven on earth!

We stayed at Villa Ilias for 5 nights to celebrate my 60th birthday - champagne, chocolates and homemade cookies were just part of the wonderful welcome we received on our first night (and a full moon over the caldera) plus free pick up from the airport. George, Pauline and the wonderful staff did everything to make my dreams of a perfect stay come true. We were in the exclusive room - yes it is compact and has everything you could want - fridge, sink, cooking facilities and a balcony view which we discovered is the one used on the web site.
We loved sitting down on the terrace by the pool to watch the sunset and made some good friends too. Previous reviewers were right - it was just so much better than crowding into Oia with hundreds of other tourists. We enjoyed the breakfasts and I am hoping to reproduce the yummy pudding cake once I get the recipe. Thnaks again for your hospitality George and Pauline.

We stayed at Vila Ilias for one night back in august 2008, we were holidaying on the island of Naxos but decided to visit Santorini. I had found the Ilias by chance on the internet some months before and it was exactly what I had been looking for. We rang the hotel prior to our visit and asked if they could put us up for one night. It was my birthday and it was the best present ever, we even were given the room I would have asked for had I been booking for longer ! The room was lovely, basic in a way but furnished with pride, it was a bit tight with the extra bed sqeezed in for my teenage daughter but it didn't matter. The view out to the caldera was awesome, down below you could see the big cruise ships coming in, to the right you looked towards Oia in the distance, and to the left was Fira. This view has stayed with me still, looking down on all the little cliff edges, the startling white of the buildings and blue of the swimming pools all clinging to the edge of the cliffs, I'm sure this is were they invented the word 'infinity', the vila itself has a neat little pool, nice sun loungers and chairs and a great spot for a glass of wine and to look out to sea and think about how great life is at this moment. George and Pauling who own the Ilias are truely great hosts, kind friendly and attentive, the breakfast was lovely a bit of everything, we took it to our balcony and just sat there admiring the view on our one and only morning. You are about 15 minutes walk down to Fira were the tiny cobbled streets lay cheek to jowl full of shops bars and restaurants, it can get extremely busy, especially when the ships come in but I loved it.. Would I go back there and for longer next time? Damn right I would. Perfect.
