“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

Rania is very nice family hotel run by wonderful Stela and her mother. Both are very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are super clean and big enough with daily cleaning, hair dryer, safe deposit box and airconditioning as a bonus.
When the wind is strong, you can hide by the pool. There are free sunbeds and Stela will definitely offer you some delicious refreshment.
There are sunbeds and umbrellas for EUR 5 per day on the beach and usually they serve some fruits for free. The sea is crystal clear but there are many rocks on the shore so you have to enter the sea about one hundred meters to the right.
There is a bus stop just few meters oposite the hotel and some shops, bars, restaurants and Inka supermarket nearby.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel as very nice and friendly place where you can spend your holidays.

Booked through Booking.com. No previous experience here, but an absolute +++
picking a frontal seaside appartment proved to be great.
The Olive Tree open air restaurant just with feets nearly in the sea is a modern approach to Greek cuisine; congrats.

Very nice hotel with recently renovated apartments in one of the buildings. Good sized pool and facilities close by. Beach just a few steps away but not at all children friendly.

Located just off the beach with convenient walking distance to both Platanias and Agia Marina. Rooms are clean and not too small (ours anyway). The staff is helpful and the Olive Tree restaurant located on the premises serves solid greek cuisine (don't miss the Cretan dakos!). Air conditioning in the rooms at no charge is a nice bonus.

As often is the case, the shower is small and the curtain does little to prevent the entire bathroom floor from being flooded. From time to time, there was a slight "sewery" odour in the hotel (more so outside of than inside our room), but nothing that was more than mildly disturbing. The beds and pillows are (of course) rock hard.

Overall, the hotel delivered exactly on expectations. It's not a luxury resort - but that's not exactly what we were paying for either...

Very nice and clean hotel. The location is great, and it is close to everything. Shops, restaurants, beach, bus-stop.

The staff was friendly and helpfull.

We had a two-room apartment, and it was ok. The only negative with it was that it had been smoked in, and smelled of old sigarettesmoke.

The pool was fine, with a children-section.

When I was there, it was mostly old people and familys with children who was there.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2007

We stayed on Rania Hotel for two weeks this September and we had a marvelous time there.

Location: Rania Hotel is located on the beach in the lively resort of Platanias, 300 meters from the center of the village and 9 km west of the city of Chania. It’s build really on the beach, so you don’t even have to cross the road to swim. If you don’t have a car, there are many buses to the city of Chania.

Beach: The beach of Platanias is a long sandy beach. The sea is clear but you have to be careful, as in frond of the hotel lays an underwater rock, so getting in the sea is really difficult, especially when there are beachcombers. This is not a serious problem as there is a place with no rocks just 100 meters from the hotel, so everybody used this passage / lane to enter the sea. There are sun-beds and umbrellas for rent on the beach (2 sun-beds and 1 umbrella costs 5 euros per day).

Facilities: There is a clean, large pool with a separate section for children, a pool bar, free sun-beds on the grass around the pool, a children playground, a PC with internet connection, a large parking area and a restaurant – beach bar.

Restaurant: The “Olive Tree Restaurant” is located on the beach and it’s one of the best things in the hotel. Delicious food, low prices and always some free fruits and “tsikoudia” drinks for the end.

Rooms: Rooms are very clean, as the whole of the hotel. They clean the room every day and they change the linens 3 times every week. All of the 31 rooms have a balcony and most of them a view to the sea. All of them have a kitchen and a refrigerator, a TV, free air-condition and a safe for your valuables.

Staff: Its owners operate the hotel and the whole staff is very friendly, polite and helpful.

Rania Hotel is a family friendly hotel and you will see many babies and children around. Most of its customers are from Scandinavia. It is absolutely recommended to everyone who wants a comfort and clean hotel on the beach, near Chania at a really good price (we paid 50 euros per night for September).
