i have just returned from a week in crete at this amazing hotel with my boyfriend and his parents. the hotel was fab and had amazing views, the food wass great and my private pool room was fantastic.my boyfriends parents room was right above us so it was easier to organize and contact them. the in laws room was spacious and great. our pool was clean and warm at night, it was private and no one could see us when we were all there, we had two sun loungers and a good sized patio on both ends of pool to sunbathe, the pool bar and main pool were good and the staff were very friendly and always on the ball..the roof bar was amazingat night the views of the sunset and the atmosphere was always warm and welcoming. i would deffinatly recomend this hotel..we were all inclusive so it was great! 100% would return, the gardens and grounds the hotel has to offer was jus worth every penny. planatius is just 10 mins away so its a great location..this was my first holiday abroard in 14 years well worth it ...

Room Tip: private pool amazing

My friend and I have just returned from a week in Crete staying at the Solimar Aquamarine Hotel June 2012. We have had an absolutely fab week, we couldn't of asked for any better. We were greeted by the friendly manager on arrival, then really helpful staff checked us in. Our room was really spacious and clean. We went straight to the pool as we had been traveling all day, that also was a really good. The food was the best we have ever had anywhere abroad, there was enough choices to make sure everyone was happy. The roof top bar was peaceful, which meant it was relaxed, and you could get served without having to queue up for ages, but you could also sit chatting to people you had met on holiday. Can't fault this hotel at all, we will definitely be returning. Jill Rhodes

Room Tip: Some rooms have their own pools in their own garden for the people who like to be more private

We have recently returned from Solimar Aquamarine / Aegean Palace Hotel after staying a week. I originally booked a superior double room with private pool but after booking realised that t would be too small for a family of three, i e-mail the hotel and then phoned them direct to up-grade the room to a larger suite with private pool and separate living room having arranged payment etc we were looking forward to a lovely holiday.
On arrival at the hotel no-one knew about the up-grade, fortunately i had the common sense to print out the e-mails between my self and the hotel, the manager was called and unfortunately nothing could be done that night as all the rooms were booked up. After spending a cramped night in the superior double the manager up-graded us free of charge to a superior suite with living room and sea view but unfortunately no pool, free bottle of wine given as well.
The hotel and grounds are excellent and clean but the services provided need reviewing, the description states tea and coffee in the rooms this was only done on day one, fortunately i travel with coffee so was able to use my own but had to ask for milk from the pool bar every day ! The rooms were cleaned daily and non of our possessions were touched.
The food and drink provision was poor, breakfast was from 7.00 until 10.00am, then from 10.00-10.30 it went continental, from then until 12.45 you either had to starve or buy from a local supermarket. Lunch was provided from 12.45 until 15.00 and then food at the pool bar from 15.00 - 17.00 this consisted of fries, pizza and other non-descript items, usually cold ! the food in the restaurant was all described on little cards but always in greek, we only ate what we could recognise !

The pool bar shut at 18.00 so any drinks had to come from the restaurant or roof top bar. No wine glasses were allowed out of the restaurant and the bar served it in tumblers ! Beer in plastic cups !

We spent most of the time at a sports bar near Maleme where the food was good and the beer cheap.
The hotel had no evening entertainment for adults but a mini club for kids, so to prevent cabin fever setting in we went out every evening to local tavernas, if you want a drink in your room you have to go out and buy it from the local shops as the drinks given in the bar are in plastic beakers and only half full, and a long walk to the bar if you want a refill.
We had a lovely week in Crete and as nice as the hotel and pool are, it is doubtful that i would stay there again, it is isolated and boring ! we found a lovely pool bar in Platanias for during the day and our daughter enjoyed that more.

Dear valued Guest,
Firstly I would like to thank you for yor comments and thougts..
I do remember the time you arrived in the hotel and the case, right the next day of your arrival you were upgraded FREE OF CHARGE without any further discussion, as I can remember in a room two categories higher (Two bedroom suite full sea view) than the one booked with your own will, no? Concerning the plastic cups at the pool you are right.. Only it is done on purpuse as in case a glass breaks at the pool you understand how bad could be for the swimming pool barefoot people and even worse if it fells inside the pool that needs to empty and fiils up again in 3 days.. Still concerning the half full or half empty glasses which is of course not correct and any kind of other minor cases I would like to state that in any hotel is a manager, or a supervisor to discuss and solve matters like this, and not when you leave especially uploading on trip advisor... on the other hand when you were departing you, your wife and daughter thanked me so many times that you did not gave me the impression of those kind of issues.
However I would like to thank you for your comments and to remind you about your free upgade for 6 days in a weeks stay..
Looking forward to welcome you again to us..

Was very pleased we chose this hotel with no reviews. Very spacious hotel, food good, plenty of sunbeds. Only downside is the beach is a short walk away with no amenities, no toilets/food or drinks. Still enjoyed our stay and will definitely return

Has recently changed name to Solimar Hotel Aquamarine. We stayed here all inclusive between 29th may and 5th june. We felt very welcome as soon as we arrived being greeted by the new manager Michalis who was very friendly along with the very helpful staff behind the desk. The superior double room we booked was lovely and the privacy of having our own pool was a luxury although we sat my the main pool and bar some days which was just as nice. The room itself was clean and spacious and cleaned on a daily basis. The food was very nice with plenty of choice including all types of meats and salad so even the fussiest of eaters were catered for. The beach is a 3-4 minute walk and the views were amazing. The staff and manager treated us like we were the only guests at the hotel and made sure we enjoyed our stay. All in all a lovely, relaxing holiday from start to finish and we will definately be returning to this hotel. Highly recommended!

This hotel has recently changed its name to the solimar aquamarine hotel and now runs on an all inclusive basis. My partner and I wanted a relaxing break away from the usual 18-30's club holiday scene and this place was ideal. We had an issue with the taxi driver at chania airport taking us firstly to the wrong hotel, he was not aware of the change of name and refered to it as the aegean palace. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds filled with flowers and plants that are very well maintained. The hotel is immaculately clean with daily maid service and the staff are very helpful. The reception area were able to help with any enquiry we had from car rental to the bus service. When we arrived we filled in a quick form and went to our room. The room we stayed in had the most amazing sea view, a private pool which had sun loungers, parasol and patio set, there was also a fridge and a hairdryer provided. We were a little worried how we would take to the food but it was varied enough to cater for most tastes, we managed three meals a day with no problems lol. Breakfast was the best and if we missed lunch there was a pool side snack bar from 3-5pm which served pizza, chips, kebab etc. Locally produced alcohol was available from 10am until 11pm if wanted. We explored crete via an excursion to eleffonissi beach which is a must see destination and rented a bike for a couple of days from just 5 mins down the road. There was easy access down to the sandy beach although, if older, there is a little bit of a steep hill on the way back up to the hotel. unfortunatly we ran out of time to explore knossos and balos lagoon but, we will be going back to the solimar aquamarine hotel.

Room Tip: rooms with sea view are in quiet location private pool was amazing

My husband and I travelled to Greece as a sort of second honeymoon with our first stop being the Aegean Palace hotel. The hotel grounds are beautifully kept. They have a big pool (very clean) and a playground for children. The beach is about a half mile walk, which isn't bad, except the walk back is uphill! The beach was not crowded though while we were there, which we liked. The room was below average. The bed was very uncomfortable. The rooms need upgrading. One thing we really appreciated, the day we were set to leave the taxi drivers were on strike and we had no way of getting to the airport. The manager of the hotel drove us in his private car so we would not miss our flight and this was greatly appreciated.
The real problem we faced was with the dining. We had expected this to be a rather low budget trip since the price of food was included in our stay. We ended up spending around $500 US dollars on food and transportation (bus) into Platanias and Chania to eat dinner every single night of our trip because the food was so bad. I ate toast every morning for breakfast and salad everyday for lunch. By dinner we were starved and had no choice but to eat elsewhere (and restaurants in Crete are EXPENSIVE!).
Another unexpected issue we had was that my husband and I were literally the only Americans at the resort. Every other person there was from Poland. Don't get me wrong, the other guests were quiet and respectful and we had no issue with them, but the hotel is catered toward their Polish clients only. All (very loud and obtrusive) announcements were in Polish, all activities were in Polish (polish karaoke one night), and all of the food labels were in Polish. My husband and I like to socialize, but it was difficult to do since we do not speak a word of Polish. Also not a huge issue, but FYI it is most definitely a family resort. We were one of the few guests without children.
If I ever return to Greece, I will not be staying at the Aegean Palace.

Room Tip: We did not have a room with a private pool. The hotel pool can get very noisey and crowded so I woul...
