“a cheap week”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Stayed for two weeks in September. Basic greek rooms and some more basic than others. We first had a dungeon before getting moved to a bigger appt. The rooms are very close together and you can hear all the comings and goings. Most of the holidaymakers were just taking a quick weeks break. Piscopiano village is a treat, travel down the hill to Blackpool. Enjoy your stay.

we stayed here second week of September and it was lovely! Very simple so dont expect luxury but its just what we wanted! Lovely Pools- in busy season it may be hard to get a sunbed! Rooms are nice and clean and got cleaned twice in a week! Michael who owns it is lovely and very welcoming! Lots of lovely restaurants near by- quite expensive though! Overall a lovely place with beautiful views!!

We had a fantastic stay at Stelva Villas. Michael and Anna are very friendly and accommodating. Apartments are basic and clean with bedding and towels being changed at least twice a week. Pool and surrounding areas are cleaned daily.

The staff at Stelva made the trip to Crete even better for me and my two friends. We enjoyed the good service and watched many of the games from Euro 2012 together. The rooms were basic and provided all that is needed. They were cleaned regularly as well. The pool is adequate and makes for a great place to meet other guests.

The apartment I stayed in was basic but clean, much like other apartments I've stayed in in various parts of Greece. Hot water is via a roof mounted solar water heater, so if you take a shower last thing before going to bed you will have a bracing cold shower in the morning. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the village (Piskopiano) is pleasant and relatively quiet - the only downside with this is that it's roughly a mile downhill to Hersonissos and the nearest bus stop, and Stelva do not have any arranged trips so if you want to explore Crete you really will need to hire a car, or get used to the mile walk each way up the hill.
The apartments our party stayed in consist of a living room with 2 single beds, a kitchenette and a TV, and a dedicated bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom. The swimming pools (there are two of them) are clean but the steps near the upper level pool are very slippery if you've been swimming

The review complaining about the cicadas is odd - there are cicadas chirrupping EVERYWHERE in Crete

We booked last minute hoping to get some discounts (my wife works in a school so school holidays prices unfortunately), however theses discounts never turned up and ended up paying £700 for the pair (£350 each, including flights). Before we booked we weren't sure what to expect, but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised, the rooms were basic, but clean, the hotel was well kept and well managed. Piskopiano is a nice little village with party town Malia, not to far away for those who fancy yet, but if you fancy a more chilled out time Piskopiano is perfect, we barely ventured from the village and surrounding area, but if you do want to do more there is all the normal attractions plus some interesting day trips to see old greek stuff. possible warnings the apartments are basic if you want to self cater real cooking will be difficult with 2 hobs and a microwave also if you the kinda person that wants to spend a lot of time in air conditioned apartments, watching CNN and BBC World this isn't for you. But if you want to experience cretan culture, eat out, lounge by the very good pool, be sociable with other guests, with the odd drink thrown in (mythos, good, cheap beer) than Piskopiano and Stevla could be the place for you. The Beach (stone beach) is also fairly close 10 min walk or 5 euro taxi journey, The weather was perfect as well and the local greeks are very friendly. Will go bak.

Room Tip: join facebook group and email Mika or Maria about rooms, brokers may try and rip you off
