“3 and a half stars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

We have just returned from a week at Amazones Village Suites. We stayed in a garden view suite which was good for the money however would really benefit from an update as some of the furniture and plenishings were past their best - namely the bedding and bedroom furniture. The pool area was lovely with stunning views out to the sea and close-by Hersonissos.
One of the downsides to this hotel was the food. We stayed half-board and although breakfast was enjoyable - albeit the same everyday- dinner was a huge disappointment. Every dish was cold and even going at half 7( when dinner is firstly available) did not seem to solve this problem. We were not the only guests to think this as many held the same views and some people even complained to Katarina (the manager). Luckily there are many lovely restaurants nearby so eating out was not a problem.
The hotel really benefits from the presence of Dimitri who it appears is left to do almost everything, and the barman (Nico however i may be mistaken) was also great fun and his cocktails were fabulous!
As other reviewers have pointed out Katarina really should improve her attitude if she wants people to return to the hotel.
Overall i did enjoy my stay however some improvements should be made for it to deserve the 4 star rating that it has.

We enjoyed staying here last time so we booked again for an even longer stay.

We're glad to say not much has changed, Demitri is still here looking after the guests, Harry (the cat) still hangs around hoping to be fed. There has been the addition of shortie (the black poodle) who likes to hang around the hotel and will other follow guests on walks about the village.

The complex is still up a road where coach drivers fear to tread, so if you have mobility issues please book a taxi transfer - then again I personally dread coach transfers in Crete so bite the bullet and pay for a taxi, you'll be glad you did. Again without much traffic outside laying by the poolside is a fairly tranquil affair.

We opted for B+B this time and we're fairly glad we did as the evening meal has now turned into buffet style dining. There are plenty of excellent places to eat in Piskopiano, or if you're feeling adventurous you can cater for yourself in your apartment. Remember to bring a sharp knife, fish slice and vegetable peeler if you do.

The hotel caters for a wide range of tastes when it comes to the bar, every kind of spirit or cocktail is available.

500ml of the local beer (Mythos) costs 2,5 euros, and is usually served with a frosted glass, not a bad idea considering the ambient temperature. The staff will usually deliver the requested order poolside.

On the daytime food menu side, try the Pita Gyros Pork,Chicken or Schnitzel (whatever a Schnitzel is), it's a kebab which includes oven chips.

Watch out for the swallows drinking from the pool. One has built a nest in the eaves of a local "Supermarket" on the left going down the hill to Hersonissos.

All in all we've enjoyed our return, and thank everyone for looking after us.

Room Tip: A7 has it's own private garden, which you can sunbath in

We stayed at Amazones Village Suites for 13 nights in May. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a balcony and beautiful views of the ocean. The pool and area around it is fantastic. The place was spotless, the staff was friendly and helpful, and we had a great breakfast. Dimitri was especially helpful and always ready for assistance. We ate dinner there one night, but decided to eat lunch while we were out touring the island instead. The suite was very spacious, however the furniture needs a little TLC, but for the price it was fine. I highly recommend Amazones and would return there if visiting Crete again.

This is our third time here first 2008, then 2011 and returned in May 2013. We can really chill out here going out onto the balcony and looking out at the lovely sea views. The staff are friendly, the suites are clean and comfortable, the breakfasts are good, and a nice pool, what more could we want. There are some lovely Tavernas close by. You need to have a taxi transfer from the airport rather than coach as a coach will drop you at the bottom of the hill. Once again thank you Caterina for a fantastic holiday.

We had a great weeks stay here at the beginning of May. My first European holiday in years and it ticked all the boxes. Kristina, Stella, George ( top man ), Kostas and Dimitri were all very warm and welcoming. The room smelt fresh when we arrived and was clean and very well presented with a lovely view out to sea. Lovely pool area with spectacular views. Please bear in mind it's hilly. The village is very nice with nice tavernas offering very reasonably priced food and wine. We opted for full board but did eat out a fair bit. The hotel sits a 30 min downhill stroll from the beach, or a 6 euro cab ride.
We would have no trouble recommending this hotel for anyone wanting a quiet, well priced get away.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We stayed here at the back end of April, so it was just before the summer season got into full swing. Quite a few of the local tavernas and bars weren't open yet. It suited us though, because the whole place was very peaceful. It was also really nice to visit earlier in the year than our usual Greek jaunts as everywhere was in beautiful bloom.

We received a wonderfully warm welcome from George when we arrived around midnight. Couldn't have been more welcoming - a refreshing soft drink, check in, then he helped us up to our suite with our luggage. Then back down to the bar so we could toast the start of our holiday with a Metaxa. While we sat there, my phone bleeped its complaint that the battery was running out - George demanded my phone so he could put it on charge on the bar, then helped us set up wifi access. How good is that for service?

The suites are very spacious and very comfortable. We had a double bed (a novelty for most of the Greek hotels we've stayed at) which was very comfortable. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful view from our balcony right down over the coast - some of the rooms aren't so well positioned as far as the view goes, so try and book a sea view if you can.

The whole hotel was extremely clean and well looked after. The garden areas were really well tended and full of flowering shrubs. The pool area was very nice - though it was still a touch chilly for me to take the plunge.

The hotel is perched at the top of the village of Piskopiano, which itself if perched halfway up a mountain side above Hersonissos. So it might be a problem if you have mobility problems - some fellow guests were using taxis to go down to the main town. It hadn't quite reached scorchio temperatures when we were there, so us mad dogs and englishmen managed the daily return trip on foot even during the day.

We were on the full board package. Breakfast was fine and filling, with slightly different offerings each morning. Lunch was from the bar menu and was very good (I recommend their pork gyros), although I was a little disappointed that we had to pay for our lunch on our last day (check out is 12, but we didn't leave until early evening - especially as we'd had a few days out where we didn't have lunch in the hotel). Drinks prices were reasonable. As others have said, the evening meal was a buffet affair and was OK. The food was always tasty and filling. The other lad who did service as well as George (Dimitri I think), was a real joy. He had a friendly word and a giggle for everyone.

We dropped down into Hersonissos most days (the hill climb burns off all the calories put on with the food). Unless you like Blackpool with sun, it hasn't got too much to make it attractive (although we did like one particular bakery, and the leather bag man next to the fire station sells some great stuff).
The three mountain villages however are marvellous, each having their own character and atmosphere. Special mention to Kostas taverna next to the church in Piskopiano and Finikas Cafe Bar in Old Hersonissos.

All in all, a great holiday.
Great value for money, great hotel, great staff.

Would I go there again? Yes, in a flash. Next time I think we'll go B&B so we can sample the delights of more of the local tavernas. We might also try and time it for Easter, which we missed by a week, but which sounds like its a heck of a party all over the island.

Our second visit to this small hotel which says a lot. Very quiet location, set high on a hillside, Definitely not for anyone with mobility problems. Very friendly staff. Buffet style meals. Breakfast is basic. Dinner choice of 4-5 different main courses. All well cooked. We would have preferred more traditional greek foods but something for everyone. Bar prices are reasonable.
Cleaning is excellent both in room and around the grounds.
Room (Junior Suite with sea view) had large bedroom lounge/kitchen and bathroom and could easily have accommodated 4 people.
An excellent choice for anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. Small additional charge but the views are breathtaking.
